Eastern district cops nab burglars

| 28/08/2009

(CNS): A teenager was remanded in custody on Thursday, 27 August after appearing in court charged with handling stolen goods and theft. Trent Bodden, 19, of John Mclean Drive, was arrested last week by Eastern District detectives who are carrying out enquiries into a number of recent break-ins that occurred in the area. A second man, also aged 19, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of burglary, breach of bail and traffic related matter and remains in custody. Police said they have also recovered a number of stolen items including construction tools and a television set.

“Burglary is a very serious offence which can have a huge impact on the victims,” said Area Commander, Chief Inspector Richard Barrow. (pictured above) “The detectives working in the Eastern Districts are putting an enormous amount of effort into identifying those responsible.”

Residents are reminded to be extra cautious when it comes to security and always ensure their windows and doors are locked. “Leaving your home open is like an open invitation to a burglar,” said Barrow. “Make sure you do all you can to secure your home.”

People should also record the serial number of valuable items so that if they are stolen they can be easily reunited with their owner. More crime reduction advice can be found on the police website at www.rcips.ky.

OMG…How long are we to discuss this ONE topic for so many days?  Obviously Mr. Bodden has become a man ….

I just wish that each one that has posted on this story has their facts straight, alot of surprises may unfold…

I am disgusted by the comments posted by you bastards…

I know Trent’s family personally and I can say that he was brought up in a well respected atmosphere.  I guess that he just chose the wrong friends to hang with, especially during the financial crisis in the Cayman Islands.

It is a sad situation when you have been singled out by a police officer, one who is seeking revenge and should be rolled over before BIG MAC changes the rollover rules…

I can also state that Trent does not have to steal flat screen tv’s, and by the way, what would he do with construction tools, watch them with the 42 inch tv that he didn’t steal? read the math people…

Everyone one of us think that we all have perfect families and lead perfect lives, but please… we should all define the word perfect within ourselves and stop pointing fingers, remember that the one finger you point to Trent, the balance is pointing back at you with the exception of the thumb…

Another thing, some of you guys are calling for a gas chamber? what about Brian Rankine’s murderers, one of them s.o.o.b’s got 3 years? why don’t you all think before you write? put a child in gas chambers for a 42 inch tv and construction tools that he didn’t steal or need and let a murderer free????? priceless!

You seem to be stating positively that he is innocent.  Not just that he is entitled to be presumed innocent until a trial finds otherwise, but that he is positively innocent If you have evidence to that efffect, then get your butt down to the police station and write out a witness statement.  If you are just making this up because he’s your friend, then shame on you.

Presumably the police recovered the stolen goods from these guys.  If your pal has a story to tell about how he had nothing to do with the stolen goods, or how they got to be in his possession, then he can tell it to the judge and post about it herer all he wants.

Sorry CNS I missed the part of the article that stated it was a 42" flat screen TV or that he could be sent to the Gas Chamber. Please enlighten me on where this "poster" got their "facts" from.

Thank you to those police officers involved in this arrest. Please keep up the good work and rid us of these criminals.

BODDEN TOWN POLICE, Chief Barrow has been showing vigilence in comanding his team.  Well done.  We need to stop complaining about who got named, and give some credit to the police for a job well done.  I say dont play the game and you wont get named.  "HELLO!!!!!"

Why would they feel the need to publish the name of one 19 year old offender and not the other one???   Kinda smells fishy to me…and the idea of publishing the names of persons who are not even CONVICTED of a crime is in itself a violation of basic human rights….una better hope that you never fall victim to a police officer with a grudge or worse, just some idiot that grabs the first person he or she sees and says, "oy, come heya bwoy!!, you look guilty of sumting to me"…then you will see it is no fun to have your name splashed all over the media…

    • Anonymous says:

Names can be published of those who have appeared in court. You cannot publish the names of those who have only been arrested. There are rules about the publishing of names.

    • Anonymous says:

If you read the article carefully you will note that the named individual has been CHARGED whilst the other just remains in custody whilst under investigation.  This is standard policy – name those charged because there is sufficient evidence to put them before the courts, following a legal ruling. The other is arrested under suspicion – therefore he won’t be named until he is charged. So please read, understand and if you have questions then ask, before launching into some hateful ignorant rhetoric about alleged police victimisation.

Naming those charged is done as the court documents are in the public domain. After all anyone has access to the courts lists which are posted in the courts building. Violation of basic human rights – what about basic human responsibilities – like not breaking the law of the land.

Just for the record, I was not defending the actions of this young man, nor was I alleging that the police had targeted this person unjustly, however, I was taking issue with the fact that so many people think that just because you are arrested on suspicion of something, then you are automatically guilty and should have your reputation trashed because you have been tried and found guilty in the court of public opinion and then you should be drawn and quartered, as it were, without the benefit of a legitimate trial….

…and if you think for one second that police vicitmization does not exist, in particular by officers who originate from an unnamed nearby country..you need your head examined..

As far as persons who have been CHARGED with a criminal offense having their names published, then yes, it is a matter of public record, so there is no need to hide the names or the alleged offenses of those persons furthur….but to be fair, then the press should publish the names of EVERY person who appears in court on a daily basis and the offenses for which they have been charged…

Imagine having to go to work and explain to co-workers, friends, family members, why YOU or someone in your family was in court….or worse..the whispers…the backhanded allegations…the rumors….

hmmmm…..doesn’t sound like such a good idea now, does it????  And for all of you who say " That wouldn’t bother me!"…Methinks you are lying to yourselves…

Everyone should remember the lesson of Pandora’s box…..

        Just my   $.02….

You seem to be very quick to judge. No one said that you were defending him. I pointed out the reasons why you were wrong in your opening statement. You were ignorant of the policy and in that ignorance questioned the integrity of the police, which you then compounded by scare mongering with bogey tales of being victimised by them. Worse now, are picking on a certain section of them. Should we add racist to the list?

The fact that every charged person is not listed in the press is a matter for the courts and the press – not the police. The police press officer is not notified of every person charged for an offence. The central information point for that is legal or the courts.

As for police officers victimising people, let me ask this. How do you define victimisation? Do you have evidence or are you marl roading? If the former then please report it, make a statement and stand up and be counted. At what point do you think that cops go from doing their job to victimisation. If your accusation is planted evidence then please show some evidence, or is it that afriend of a friend told you?

As for me being charged and named – well if I did something that warranted being charged then name me. I will stand up and take the shame, though to listen to you it would seem that I am already mental and a liar. This is what I meant when I said you must be quick to judge.

As for your pandoras box parting shot, below is the rough story

‘After Prometheus‘ theft of the secret of fireZeus ordered Hephaestus to create the woman Pandora as part of the punishment for mankind. Pandora was given many seductive gifts fromAphroditeHermes, Hera, Charites, and Horae (according to Works and Days). For fear of additional reprisals, Prometheus warnedhis brother Epimetheus not to accept any gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus did not listen, and married Pandora. Pandora had been given a large jar and instruction by Zeus to keep it closed, but she had also been given the gift of curiosity, and ultimately opened it. When she opened it, all of the evils, ills, diseases, and burdensome labor that mankind had not known previously, escaped from the jar, but it is said, that at the very bottom of her box, there lay hope.

There is no reason to think Pandora acted out of malice in opening the jar, for she was exercising her curiosity, and when she saw what was let out of it, she quickly closed it.’

The above was from wikipedia. So what exactly are you trying to say. That in our curiousness we are unleashing evil on the world, or that by our curiousness, though it may cause bad things, ultimately there is cause for hope. Or were you just spouting because you don’t have a clue what the central theme of the legend is?

Do you get all of your information from the internet???

Because we all know that EVERYTHING you see on the internet is true, right???

Well, having cross referenced the text with several different books on Greek Mythology, I was satisfied that it presented a balanced precis of the legend. But to give you credit, you are correct. After all you are on the internet and we all know how wrong you are….don’t we?

Poster of 15:28.  Why not name the scum bag, he did the crime now do the time, I hope they throw a party when they sentence him so the victims of his stupid  behaviour can shout and rejoice.Enough, we have a lot of things to worry about in this island he should not be a part of it.

We need more policing in East End, but I glad that they named this criminal.

    It’s just good to know.

  7. Anonymous says:

Judging by the surname he’s bound to get off lightly, as he obviously wasn’t really committing a crime, he had just’borrowed’ the items to keep him occupied whilst stuck at home because of the evil expats taking all the jobs. At least now the boy has shown some motivation and aptitude for carrying weights, so give him a job in a construction site…..oh no, I forgot, he wouldn’t want that, because he is entitled to at least a CEO/CFO position as he has above average qualifications for the island…..his 100 metres swimming and cycling proficiency test.

Seriously though, regardless of nationality lets make an example and give the boy the gas chamber. He’s been brought up by bad parents and lives a wannabe gangster lifestyle, so lets treat him like the vermin he is and get the exterminators in.
