Police nab ganja dealers in road block
(CNS): A weekend road block in West Bay resulted in the arrest of three suspected ganja dealers. The three men aged 22, 25 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja with intent to supply, possession of ganja and consumption of ganja during the Saturday night police operation. Searches of the suspects home addresses – two in West Bay and one in George Town – resulted in additional ganja and drug paraphernalia being found and seized. A half pound of ganja was recovered and two of the three have been released on bail, the third remains in custody police said on Monday afternoon.
The block was carried out by officers from West Bay station, the Uniform Support Group and the K9 Department at around 9.30pm on Saturday (September 19) in the vicinity of West Bay Road Cemetery.
“I am very proud of the proactive work being done by the officers in West Bay and thank the specialist departments for their support in these operations,” said Inspector Dane Pinnock, second in charge of the West Bay district. “The drug problem continues to be a big concern for the RCIPS and communities throughout the islands, not only because it destroys families but it fuels other offences.
“We take the matter of illegal drugs very seriously and will continue to seek out those who involve themselves in this destructive activity. Wewill not stand by while these people destroy and threaten the welfare of our communities.”
Anyone with information about crime taking place in the Cayman Islands should contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling Crime Stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.

If some one would find some thing like a Cayman Army recruitment ,just like a military school ,with pay to the recruits and all subjects included;Also martial arts,sports and a profesional job or title.
A 3 years intern school ,some continuation of the high school program;is not a secret how many lifes are being lost and waisted out there,after they finish school is nothing more for them out there to do,is a shame to see our youth out there wondering around looking for jobs ,having a hard time integrating themselfes to the work force,the comunity,most of them are not preparared,with the old sistem of just passing kids trhu the sistem without knowing any thing,just passing,now we are faced with a big problem,we all can look around and find those good kids,with so much talent and nothing to do.
Let’s help get sponsors and do like other countries get the youth in to a regimen of goog life style,included church with some of the young leader we have today,all subjects to be learned there for at the end them that complety the time and pass all subjects would reward with a title a good check and a good job here in Cayman.
Just think that after high school is what??let’s put a stop and give all those kids out there the change to continue educating themself’s in a good school,A military school,that would teach them discipline,teach them a life style without all the bad things happening in Cayman today.A military school with no guns,only arm with knolledge and discipline for life to help todays generation and serve as a good and better example for our future generations.Cayman youth would all have the aspiration to get in to that school that would help them be proud of themself’s and know that if they like sports there would be sports for them,they like arts there would be that for them,any good thing they may like in life they could get there.
While I agree with you idea, I would like to expand it a little. The Governement should form a Defense Force and make it MANDATORY for ALL citizens once they reach the age of 17 to serve for 3 years. Other countries do this and it helps shape young persons into mature thinking individuals and effective future leaders. Give them a sense of Unity and Community. Teach them that if they have a disagreement they have the means to settle it, even settled with fists if need be, but once the fight is over, you go back to being a team and only by being a team can all accomplish their goals. This is what is lacking in Cayman. A sense of teamwork to overcome diversity. We saw it emerge after Ivan, but once things got "back to normal", it died just as quickly. These behaviours need to be ingrained in the youths to have any lasting impression. Make it an offense to dodge this service. During this service they would serve the community in various ways such as what the Cadet Corps already does. They would only get dispensation not to serve if they enrolled in a college and maintained their enrollment to receive their degree. During their service they also recieve GOOD QUALITY secondary education in a chosen field such as Accounting, Finance, Trades, etc…Caymanians today are not being taught to be competitive. This is how you build strong citizens…only by building strong citizens will you ever have a chance of building a strong community and therefore a strong country. I know that there are some who would disagree, but they will mostly likely disagree because they benefit from keeping Caymanians weak and undereducated.
A mandatory defense force? I think the defense force is a good idea, but mandatory? Could you please give some examples and information as to which other countries are doing this?
Israel, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland just to name a few..the list goes on and on…this is not a new concept..it has been in practice for centuries in countries that do not normally field a full time Army or Navy…a young person, males and females are required to do "National Service" for their country…
Why do they always get out on bail? What is the point to arrest them? Who supervises them while they are out on bail? Sorry, don’t get it
Certain things have to be done before a charge and the law says you cannot keep them locked up during that time.

Excellent! It feels very good to be praising the RCIPS for their good work. Now, guys, lets make sure that the investigation is completed well and that Legal will have a sensible somebody prosecute the cases.

another small drug bust and the Unsolved murders continue?go figure,the boys in blue are too busy at the roadblock to solve these heinous crimes.There investigating skills, same almost clown like at best,its obvious there is not enough experience or they simply cant be bothered.Thishas been a long ongoing problem,the police cant get the facts together and lately when they do get the facts they loose them.
Are you for real? These "small" drug busts are connected to the "big" drug busts and therefore to the guns and crime and violent acts that have riddled our islands with bloodshed. So you’re solution is to let all the drug dealers go about their business but stop the "heinous" crimes?? Give me a break. The faulty logic some people live by just amazes me. I’m sorry to have to tell you this but ALL crimes make living here difficult. Congrats to the RCIP, keep up the good work!
Well done to the RCIP officers involved. Keep up the pressure on the dealers and please get the gun toting thugs out of our communities as quickly as possible.
I guess all the people who said that the police were wasting their time with road blocks, especially the West Bay police, really knew what they were talking about.
Road blocks seem to be the easy way out of doing hard work and getting their hands dirty. While I realize that every one counts, how many drug dealers do you think are travellling around with the drugs in their cars. I am not saying to discontinue the road blocks but is it really necessary for so many? Obviously, the more they do these blocks the wiser the dealers are becoming and would have to be very stupid to continue that route. Road blocks shouldbe a periodic thing to catch them off guard. I have said before and I will say again, we need cops who are willing to get their hands and knees dirty to hang out in the bush to catch the dealers. The same bush that Angelique is cutting down and only shifting the dealers, used to be used by real cops to catch the dealers some time ago. Inspector Pinnock has better people skills than Angelique Howell another good cop is Inspector Best and I think that he and Pinnock would make a good team. Obviously one would need to be promoted to the Chief Inspector level.
