Sister Islands MLA steps up as UDPdeputy leader

| 01/10/2009

(CNS): Education Minister Rolston Anglin has been ousted as deputy leader of the UDP. The party apparently voted him out of the position earlier this week, to be replaced by Minister of District Administration, Works and Gender Affairs Juliana O’Connor-Connolly. The change  happened amidst rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle just four months after the elections.

Under the new Constitution, the governor will appoint an MLA to be the deputy premier, acting in accordance with the advice of the premier.

Talking to News27 last night after the change was announced last night at the UDP meeting, George Town MLA Ellio Solomon indicated that the party had given its support to O’Connor-Connolly and he expected that when the new Constition comes into effect, McKeeva Bush, who will be the Premier, will choose her to be the Deputy Premier.

Solomon has also been named the UDP Party’s new General Secretary, responsible for running the party’s administration and liaising with the media, News27 reported.

Mac did not like Aglin’s support of a new constitution. He went off the UDP reservation. Mac is settling in for the long run of leadership when he said last election he would not run again. I’m sure Mac promised he would turn over leadership to Aglin so with that being said, Aglin gets the knife in the back. Right between his shoulder blades. Now you can truthfuly call him "Mac the knife".

Bush is a dictator – one who exercises arbitrary authority over their citizens and who cannot be removed from power through legal means.

    But u CAN/ WILL/and MUST be removed.

All the council members knew which way they had to vote to please him.

    Shame on all of you!!!!!

The Chuckster warned you all and still you decided to give McDinejad another chance. He has screwed up BIG TIME more times than I can count in the last 4+ months.

Now you no longer have the benefit of The Chuckster’s intelligence, education & debating skills to hammer McDinejad to a pulp in the LA.

The rest of the Opposition is asleep at the wheel. Maybe Ezzard will take up the mantle from The Chuckster ?

chucksters’ what???…this is a very funny post!

Name me one thing positive the said chuckster did for Tourism in 4 years or for anything in his Minisitry in fact??….all anti-Mac and nothing more.

Come on folks, lets not loose focus…The UK wants silly posts like this to keep us divided and unfocused on the real situation. Remember the UK used only 950 civil servants to control the entire Indian subcontinent when they ruled it….I think they must have more than that in the Monetary Authority alone!!

Wake up and smell the Tea!!…you got it the English Breakfast Tea!!

Long live the free Cayman Islands. (Free of direct taxation of course! )

        2. Creation of the Cayman Islands Film Commission

        3. Redefinment of the Cayman Islands Investment Bureau

        4. Restructuring of CAL (which has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars)

          Here’s some more……..How about the Chuckster moving air arrivals from 167,000 in 2005 to 302,000 in 2007;

          Introduction of the national customer service programme "PRIDE" for the tourism industry;

          Introduction of the "Cuba Mitigation Strategy" with increased focus on the European and Canadian markets and the entry into the South American market with advanced plans for CAL to commence service this year via the Panama gateway;

Inauguration of the CAL New York & Washington DC routes and the reinstatement of the Chicago gateway.

          Discontinuation of the none-performing Houston & Ft. Lauderdale routes;

          Increased tourism scholarships;

I think what needs to be clarified is that the Hon. Rolston Anglin were only the Acting Deputy Leader.  Then maybe all these stupid remarks will discontinue about one looking so surprised and the other one with a smile and the list goes on………………

Please lets all pray for the betterment of these our Beautiful Cayman Islands.

So why did Rolston say "No comment" when he was aksed about it by the media. You are so damn dumb !!!!!

Rolston was ousted by McDinejad !!!!!!!!

      • noname says:

If you consider the majority of the UDP counsel  voting  in Miss Julie’s favor an ousting for Rolston ~ then so be it.  He certainly has accepted the vote. Mr. Bush holds one vote in the counsel just like the other 25 general counsel members.  But you know what, even when the truth is known people like you will continue to try and stir up trouble.  The truth shall set you free.  I voted Rolston!!

        • Anonymous says:

No amount of spin will change what is obvious to anyone who knows Mac. The "counsel" does want Mac wants, plain and simple.

Rolston obviously has no choice than to accept the ‘vote’ if wants to remain within the UDP. The most he can say is "no comment".

          Btw the word is "council".

PPM squirming to save face = really priceless

PPM boasting of largest capital works of any Government in history surely cannot be denied….Mac could never find money to outspend the PPMs last 4 years………although I am not a UDPer or PPMer, I could not resist to respond to this one sided post!!

      • Anonymous says:

So the PPM spent a lot of money on needed capital infrastructure (as opposed to loss-making tourism attractions and a cruise terminal that doesn’t serve its intended purpose). What’s new. The funny thing having criticized the PPM for borrowing and spending in the face of recession Mac proceeds to the exact same thing in the middle of the recession. And please don’t say the PPM made him do it. You cannot borrow your way out of debt.

Look at the quality of candidates at the last election compared to the talent of people who live here.  Awful isn’t it?  Everyone knew the last election was between the incompetent party (and now we know they were even worse than we thought) and the party of questionable ethics (many on CNS would phrase that more strongly).  None of the independents were credible, with the possible exceptions of Ezzard and Joey.

So if Cayman has a problem with quality politicians then it might be worth considering whether changing the rules on who is eligible to run in elections would help.

  12. Anonymous says:

Rolly this is your time to think about your next move!  I think we all know that you are the brains of UDP and therefore if you leave them and go independent or start your own party you will be a BIG THREAT!  You are already a threat and that is why this has happened to you.  Keep God first and all will be well!  You will come out on top!  Can’t wait until 2012 elections!  Yes I think we should get back to November elections and since UDP got the extra 6+ months they should now give it back by having election in 2012.

  13. Anonymous says:

Obviously there was something unexpected that went down at the meeting and Rolston cleared didn’t expect to be ousted otherwise he wouldn’t have had  a "No comment" statement when asked about it by the press.

This is exactly what we were warned about by the PPM, but we wouldn’t listen so now we will have to "take what we get". It is this same type of foolishness that took Mac out of power in 2005 and we were stupid enough to think that he had changed and wouldn’t return to his old ways. It has only been four months, give four years and see how "united" the "United Democratic party"  is at the end of it.  Maybe Rolston should have accepted Alden invitation to cross the floor of the LA in March before the house was disolved, not sure exactly what Alden said but I believe it was something to the effect that Rolston potential was not being used/recognized by the UDP. Maybe Rolston should make that decision now to cross the floor since he has been rejected by his own party, he doesn’t have to join PM he can be an independent like Ezzard. If he is man enough to do that I’m sure it won’t be long before others will follow.

    • Anonymous says:

The majority spoke at the counsel ~ every vote was counted, every vote was legit, thus the result.  As with any democratic voting process, until you know the actual results you must presume the other person could possibly win.  To do otherwise is setting yourself up for a big dissapointment.

Mr. Bush had no control over the results; he knew the results when everybody else did.

Listen to me my fellow Caymanians, this is no joke. If you love Cayman, please take note because it is getting serious.

There is a conserted effort, a concerted drive by certain factions of our society including, but not limited to, Caymanians. It consists mostly of that particular group that is "backing, sponsoring, pushing" the present government, & they have a very serious agenda & their ulterior motive is power. It may sound a little far fetched, but my Cayman people PLEASE, PLEASE I beg you to listen, & take note.

If you do not wish to believe at first, please by all means check it out, you have nothing to lose BUT EVERYTHING TO GAIN, like your country & people!

In the last UDP government over 3000 people received Caymanian status, & the UDP supporters are now telling us to forget about it because "that is in the past"! There is now an undercover drive to grant Permanent Residence to 9000 regional (next door neighbors) people, AND IT HAS STARTED ALREADY. THIS IS NO JOKE! Please, PLEASE investigate the comings & goings in room 576 of the Marriott hotel, I am not telling you what took place, I am only asking Caymanians who care for their country to please check it out, please I beg you. People were seen leaving with brown envelopes (government envelopes are brown). This is only the beginning of the 9000, & after that our country will be run by those same people. After the 9000 people receive Permanent Residency, the true Caymanians who are upset at our country being given away once again, will complain until our hearts bleed, & again we will be told to "forget about it, that is in the past"!!

These are very serious times. Our country is being sold out, & it is because of the greed of one or two people! The UDP say they plan to sell the Sewage (Water Authority). Please Cayman, I beg you to check it out. It is being sold in the name of greed to a few Egyptians along with their local partner (think Turks & Caicos) & it is not because they want to give us better water service, NO, there is an ulterior motive. Why sell the Water Authority? It is not losing millions of dollars per year. In fact I believe it is doing very well, positively!

Cayman, let us not sit back & watch our beautiful islands be destroyed. You may be upset because the previous administration spent a lot of money on new schools, but at least we still had our country & we owned it. Wake up Cayman, do not sit idly by & say nothing, believing that others will fight the fight. It is time we all speak out for the love of OUR country, this is Cayman, let us try & save it, PLEASE, PLEASE I beg you Cayman.

GOD BLESS OUR BEAUTIFUL CAYMAN ISLANDS.

Please stop the propaganda.  The PPM won the election with the same kind of lies in 2004 and look what happened, they destroyed us.  So stop your foolishness.  You are simply trying to incite hatred and fear.  Sounds as if you might the "Minister of Propaganda".  Give it a rest. You lost the election now stop stirring up divisiness.  Dont’ know how the bunch of you can sleep at night with all the proprganda you post and spread.

Assk the PPM how many of the 3000 grants they contributed to – they had their fair share.  In fact they submitted even more than the UDP.  Check with Immigration, they know the truth.

        • Anonymous says:

Please stop with your foolishness you blind udp follower. The PPM had NOTHING to do with any status grants give-aways! The PPM brought a motion to the L.A to stop the grants you pitiful thing, or have you conveniently forgotten that? I do believe that it is you that is the "Minister of Propaganda" with that stupidness! The udp begged the PPM to submit names for the grants & the PPM told them how far up to go!! So please stop with that one! You know that the udp were so wrong with those grant give-aways that you want to try & include the PPM, what a sorrowful joke!

As for "divisiveness" MY GOD who has been more divisive than the UDP? They have so little love for their country & people that they have continually begged foreign nationalities to HATE their own Cayman people, & this is fact! It went on during the campaign & it has continued after the elections! The udp are telling foreigners to hate Caymanians, have you been deaf to this, or have you conveniently been off island?

And finally, as for the propaganda, if you do not want to believe what your sell out government is doing, please simply check it out, that is all that is being asked, please just check it out. Or is it that you are afraid to check it out because of what you might find out? I hope when it all comes to light you are not one of those that starts crying & complaining BECAUSE IT WILL BE TOO LATE! At that time I hope you are big enough (cough cough) to accept that "you made your bed so you will have to sleep in it" & I hope you can sleep at night when it comes, because I can tell anyone that I can sleep well at night knowing that I do not & will never support corruption or the selling out of my country. The only thing that keeps me awake at night crying is what is NOW happening to Cayman under this "show me the money" government. Can you sleep at night? HaHa "incite hatred & fear"? That is so funny coming from one of the pitiful udp lackies. Can you sleep at night?

          1. The PPM won the election in 2005, not 2004. If you cannot get even the basic facts right then you are clearly not reliable on anything else.

          2. What the PPM said about Mr. Bush and the UDP was true.

          3. The PPM did not "destroy" us. That is UDP propaganda that they have lackeys like you spreading.

          4. The UDP Cabinet made the status grants. They determined the number, the criteria (or lack thereof) and the process. Nobody else did. There is no passing the buck on that one.  You claim about the PPM having submitted more names than the UDP is obviously absurd. This was a ploy by the UDP to create new voters who would be loyal to them. And it worked.  They are now busy creating more.

          5. The UDP’s M.O. is to incite fear in order to manipulate and control. It is inciting fear when you run around saying that we are broke and the PPM destroyed us. They thrive on fear, intimidation and divisiveness. It is divisive when appointment to Board are made not on the basis of relevant qualifications, experience and ability but on being a tool of the party. There is no respect for the rule of law, or for people for that matter.  A pall has fallen over this country since May. While there was criminal activity before it has now become a daily event and this a reflection of the govt. we elected. This govt. is an abomination. Only God can help us now.

      • Dred says:

I know to the average reader this looks farfetched but I will say this.

Over my years and watching all that happens during UDP times in the house there is always something to raise your eyebrow at.

Their last time in they gave status’s away like it was a free flyer. Would it shock me if this is 100% accurate? NO. Bog Mac has a way of doing things mind boggling. Actually he started right off the bat with Pirates Week. Let’s not forget his Prophetic statement about changing Pirates Week.

This is a trainwreck waiting to happen. I don’t know about you but I am seatbelted in pretty tight. I actually stole the seatbelt next to me also because with all that is happening lately this one is (I feel) going to be the humdinger of them all.

I really don’t think people stop to realise how much damage, I mean real consequential damage, was done to our country when he gave away at will those status grants.

Let’s realise some facts here. Those status grants are people who no lomger require a work permit to be here. Now I don’t know what the average permit runs at but you can try $1,000 x 3,000 and see $3Mil gone right there. So now we have $3mil less revenue right off.

Now as for our indiginous Caymanians we now have 3,000 more people competing against for jobs on a one to one basis because they share basically equal rights to local jobs the way we indiginous Caymanians do. So it’s not entirely hard to say that maybe some people out of jobs today can say Big Mac did this to me.

Now over time those 3,000 will multiply out and cause our growth rate to have a surge in say 5 to 10 years and continued well beyond. So in fact the worst is yet to come or right upon us now.

        • Anonymous says:

it will not take 5 to 10 years for that 3000 to multiply, because I have heard from people in the know that the 3000 grants has already turned into over 12000 because of siblings to those 3000 as well as "fake" adpotions! Those 3000 persons have contributed to our Caymanians either not being able to get work (hense the significant rise in crime) as well as the younger Caymanians struggling to get into school. It is a complete mess, & we have not really started to feel the full negative effects of those grants yet, & the udp cronies keep telling us TO FORGET ABOUT IT! Fat chance! And to think they are adding thousands more to it! THIS HAS GOT TO END PEOPLE!

  19. Wowsers says:

He will not be swayed by naysayers.  He knows his destiny and will do a superb job when his times comes.  The UDP councel had the say, not Mr. Bush. I’m sure Mr. Bush would  have loved to have the Deputy Premiere from West Bay, but , alas, it was not to be.  Miss Julie received the majority of votes.  That’s how it is in a democratic society.

But, it’s damn if you do and damn if you don’t. If both Deputy Premiere and Premiere had come out of West Bay there would have been no end to the talk.  But, then, it just goes to show that one can never satisfy those who just seek to critize every little thing.  Get a life.

          • Anonymous says:

If you really believe all the crap you wrote here then I suggest that it is you who needs to ‘get a life’……so how come UDP Constitution just being finalized and the council just now voting in an executive? WOW! some party!

          • Anonymous says:

Your spin sounds so nice. The way I hear it is that Mac lobbied strongly for Miss Julie, seems he trusts her more than he trusts his running mate Rollie, talk about getting used.

          • O'Really says:

If the UDP council selected JCC over Rolston without any pressure being applied, then this is a sorry indictment their judgement and I fear even more for the well being of these islands.

Everybody knows that McKeeva made it clear who he wanted them to vote for.  Unfortunately McKeeva can’t work with anybody who has a mind of their own and is clearly threatned by Rollie’s intelligence.  Such a shame that everyone who McKeeva is surrounded by has their own agenda!

          • Wowsers says:

What a bunch of CRAP, if you really think that this process was above the board and that MAC didnt play a part; then you really do not get it! This was a coordinated effort. Remember what they did to Kurt years ago ? who do you think masterminded it? these things do not happen by chance! Stop trying to fool the people with your silly UDP mind games and stop taking us for idiots.

          • Anonymous says:

If Mac was contemplating grooming Rollie for the leadership position obviously this would not have happened. No one raised any concern that both the Leader and Deputy Leader were from WB although everyone understood that to be the case up until now.

We all know how Mac operates. If he feels that you are not fully in bed with him on all matters then you are the enemy and he will seek to destroy you.  He dictates who he wants appointed. Any committees or boards etc.are there simply do his political bidding. For example, he has dictated that he wants former UDP Minister Roy Bodden as President of UCCI. Now the UCCI Board has to go through the motions of advertising the position and interviewing applicants but we know what the result will be at the end of the day, or heads will roll at the UCCI Board.  Mac is a dictator and honest UDP party members admit this.

The UDP is democratic in name only. We all know who pulls the strings. In 2005 a former UDP Minister said that the UDP at that time was not a real party, just a personality cult. While there are some new faces and a revamped facade for the party it is the same leader; nothing has changed.

This has to end soon Cayman. McDinejad is dangerous for Cayman.

Tom & Truman took him out after the First Cayman Bank fiasco and removed him from Cabinet because of his actions which caused thousands of Caymanians to lose their homes and money.

McDinejad returned to the scene as soon as Marzouca got him out of his depression.

Kurt & Alden denied him the Leadership in 2000. Because Kurt was asleep he ousted Kurt in 2001 and took over the Leadership.

Chuckie fought the corruption and ousted McDinejad in 2005 and removed him from power for an entire term. The PPM & the Governor wouldn’t support Chuckie in finishing McDinejad’s political career and now he’s back ONCE again with a very clear agenda to create a banana republic for him to rule over.

Now he has ousted Rollie because he is too intelligent and threatens his position as Leader of the UDP. The other puppets in the UDP sits idlly by and allows him to do as he pleases.

He appoints the self proclaimed "Ambassador for Jesus" sheep as Deputy Leader because he knows she will tow the line.

It is time to stop this madness Cayman. Each time McDinejad is in power he sinks our country further and further. Why do the Bayas keep voting for this man ???????

Then let’s vote a real government to get Cayman fully back on course for the rest of the island.

It would be easy to dig a trench right by the fire station and turn the fire station into the new immigration and customs station.

If they can turn West Bay around from the drugs, violence and other problems, then we can consider giving them more responsibility.

Why are we so stupid; the Hon. Rolston Anglin was never appointed as Deputy Leader, he acted in that capacity during the LOGB trips off island.  Now the party has held the required meeting, took a vote from amongst 6 other candidates and Ms. Julie was declared the winner – therefore she is now officially the Deputy Leader.  Some of us need to think before we talk or sometimes keep our garbage to ourselves.  Rolston was not replaced.

    • Anonymous says:

You should think before you talk! You say that Rolston was not replaced? What was he before Wednesday night? He was the deputy leader of the UDP, & he was called that by McKeeva Bush, Julie O Conolly, Glidden, Mark & all of the UDP! That was his title & we all heard him referred to as deputy leader. Who is now deputy leader of the UDP? As of Wednesday night, the deputy leader of the UDP is Juliana O Conolly. To most people that means that Rolston was replaced by Ms. O Conolly. So no matter how you put it "ROLSTON WAS REPLACED"

    • Anonymous says:

That is what they want to say now to try to keep the Hon. Rolston Anglin from doing anything powerful, come on Rollie, ya mama and daddy did not send you away to college to get that "good education" for nothing, in fact you being the one with a CPA, should have been the negotiater for the Govt in all the talks in London etc, but in stead he takes his brief case carrier and his laughing buddy all the time, so that he can have it to say that he "did it" as you know he has to beat his chest, that is why he took the 3 things that keeps this country afloat, Tourism, Financial Services & Development, so if and when things get back in order, he will be able to say "he did it".  Come on Rolston, you do not need him, he is good at planning coos, (like the Pastor who prayed for him to get in and then turn around to plan and plot with his men of the church at private meetings to overtrow him, but thank God he did not stay for them to say farewell, he showed them he took off) so you get all the other elected  members and overthrow him too.  I am sure that they all will join with you, Ezzard, Arden, Moses, Anthony, Kurt, Alden, and by the marl road Mark is up to his limit with his bosseness, and what he says Jon-Jon with do and I am sure Capt Eugene will come along with you as he knows he does not want him along with him as he never gives him any task to do nor mentions him at all.

Let him keep Mr. UDP mouth champion Elio, CG, Mike and Ms. Holy Holy JCC, for it is only God that will deal with her and medium Mac in the near future, as he is not going to let us get totally destroyed by them.

  31. Anonymous says:

Rollie I guess your coup failed. We do appreciate you trying to remove that dangerous Dictator though.

There is a second option. This is a numbers game as you well know. Walk the floor Rollie, join the PPM Opposition and Ezzard and by my count that makes 7 members. It only takes two more members for a Vote of No Confidence against McKeeva to succeed and to have him removed before he destroys our country.

So which two members can be convinced to take McKeeva out ? Well the answer is obvious isn’t it. Mike Adam & Elio Solomon. If Elio is offered the Deputy Speaker’s post replacing CG Elio will happily go with the plan.

So the new Cabinet could look like this – Ezzard as Premier Designate with responsibility for Health & Environment; Arden as Deputy Premier Designate with responsibility for Communications, Works & Infrastructure, Alden as Minister of Education, Sports & Youth, Rolston as Minister of Finance, Development & Planning, Mike as Minister of Tourism, Social Services & District Administration.

Now start the process today !!!!

However, Mac would do well realize that a new generation of Caymanians is coming into leadership age and take note that despite employing the same tactics to preserve her position in her empire, it didn’t save Mrs A. Martins, nor for that matter Pancho Villa.

Congratulation to all.

I may be wrong but I am sure these shuffels were discussed right after the election.  I do not look at it as a demotion for Mr Anglin.  Have we given some thought that he may be put in a position where he may feel more comfortable doing, so please stop fanning the fire looking for a flame when there is no coals.  The last thing we need now is for us to be biting off our own hands, thats why the foreign press can scandal us so bad, because we talk too many things we should keep quiet about. Being "a good person" and having leadership ability is not synonymous. Not saying that she may not possess these but only being a good person is not enough
