Firearms suspect escapes cops
(CNS): Police have issued a wanted alert for 28-year-old Dainian Cecil Henry, who escaped from George Town Police Station yesterday, 25 October, at around 5:15 in the evening. Henry is reported to have made his escape by knocking aside a woman coming into the station who was carrying a baby. He made off down Elgin Avenue in the direction of the Immigration Department and officers immediately made chase but did not find him. Police said Henry was arrested over firearms related offences. Henry is of medium to dark complexion; approximately 5’ 9’’, heavy set at about 170lbs, low cut hair, and was last seen wearing a green t-shirt with yellow stripes and khaki shorts.
Henry had been in custody for firearm related matters and the public is advised to report any sightings of this individual immediately and are strongly advised to not approach him directly.
Anyone with information of crime taking place can pass it on to police in a number of ways; people can speak with an officer they know and trust, they can reach George Town detectives on 949-4222, they can leave information on an anonymous voicemail service by calling 949-7777 or they can call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling Crime Stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.

If this is true that he is from Belize, then I am WONDERING if he was brought in with ‘big corporations!’
***If he is wanted by Belize, then why don’t someone contact Belize. But, then again, he could be from Honduras, Guatemala….
I posted a comment before, about this with work permits, that it was an argument about if employers should put up a cash deposit or insurance policy that if a foreign worker is convicted of a felony, or stays in country after visa expires, the employer’s deposit/ins. policy forfeits to government. **this argument was that it would make employers hire law-abiding foreign workers.
Apparently, this comment had angered another poster from the states. It wasn’t my intent, I was just sharing information because people were complaining about the costs of the new fees for work permits!
Is this the same Dainian Henry that the Turks & Caicos police were looking for in 2005 in order to question about serious offenses in TCI?
http://www.tcimail.tc/crimestoppers/wanted/WANTED.pdf
Isn’t that just beautiful. If ever there was proof that our immigration and police protection systems were tragically inadequate there it is. Not even an assumed name. I wonder how many Caymanian children he has left for us to take care of?
"…wanted flyer also says that Henry is a Jamaican".
No way! Those native TCI Belongers are doing it and blaming it on Jamaicans.
This clearly makes the case for fingerprinting at our airport, tighter visa controls and border security.
From information received, I understand this man is wanted in Belize for the murder of a Policeman. Do you want to tell me that the POlice didn’t know that? what is going on here with our Police service? Who was in charge of this man’s security? Whover he or she was, they have to go. On the other hand, poor Police officer disillisioned with the system just drop his or her guard and history.
Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee, I’m a laughing gnome and you can’t catch me (David Bowie, 1967)
Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee, I’ll just kill and rob and then I’ll flee (Joe Criminal, Cayman Islands, 2009)
If it were not so serious it could be funny. The RCIPS Officers who were ‘in charge’ of this crim must be held accountable; if not, then it should be the Commish. He must be really embarrassed and I’m surprised he’s not personally kicking those officers’ a**ses. Was this sheer incompetence or collusion?
Mmmm? Maybe Tempura was right.
Its plain and simple police are not doing their jobs the way they should!!!! I’ve heard from many people who are arrested and go behind the george town jail they smoke ganja, cigarettes everything in the back there, police don’t care. If they did they would’ve been more careful wouldnt they? lmfao ridicolous well I know, if i’m being robbed, attacked or someone tries to break into my house I know who I won’t be calling! 911 waste of my time
16:39 has posted some valuable information regarding this person. Has an in-depth check been done on this person’s background in other countries around our region?. Many persons, move in around the Caribbean, using alias’ trying to find a safe harbour, thinking that as a small country, he can and will go undetected.
We have allowed many persons onto our shores, giving them the best hospitality possible, and once here they vandalise our resources and reek havoc amongst our young people.
Cayman we need to be more vigilant and get back to the days, of being our "brothers keeper".
They aint catch this broda yet?!
I WAS MADE TO UNDERSTAND, that this person was in a holding cell, and had a visitor. Does anyone know how many doors you have to go through to get outside.
It is unbeliveable that this man could escape pass so many police so fast. Further more the police should still be running behind his ass. Why stop? Out of breath.?…………… The whole darn force should have been chasing his behind all over George Town, and out of Town too untill now. ………..
Until the police wakes up and realize that things have changed on this island, it will happen again. But on the other hand S%#@ happens.
Now it is time that the public at large give the police some support. We really have been tearing up their asses good and proper for this, which they do deserve, but that aint going to catch the criminal on the run. but do hope they will learn a lesson. We need this person off the streets or woodland of Cayman Islands. Comments will tell that the majority of Cayman is one hairpin away from exploding. RED ALERT.
Wha? The suspect "made his escape by knocking aside a woman coming into the station who was carrying a baby"??
Please for godzsake tell me that someone was misquoted on this. Imagine the implications… I can see the lead story line now: "Government passes Bill to ban women with babies from visiting the police station and prison because theyhave been demostrated to be effective implements to assist prisoners in escaping lawful custody." This would be a bill I am sure will gain much popular support. A bin marked "Babies" can be set up at the security checkpoint. "Sorry, ma’am, you have to leave your baby at the door as they pose an escape hazard."
I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this one! I mean, in the TV police dramas whenever a woman and a baby are used to escape custody it is usually a hostage situation. But this guy put a new twist on things. I sincerely hope his methods do not catch on because there are women with babies everywhere! Since now we know that this is all it takes to escape officers of the law, we may have to place a general ban on women carrying babies in public so police effectiveness will not be compromised.
Of course as news of this new criminal technique gets around it will inevitably lead to an increase in illegitimate births. The bad guys are probably already rushing to get their women pregnant so they will have ready access to an effective means to elude capture by the police and/or escape custody should they be caught.
I hope that the powers that be get the message and realise that this incident is telling of ineffective police training and will force the RCIPS to change the way officers are taught to deal with critical situations. It is now clear that police training must include effective and advanced techniques regarding how to apprehend a suspect when such overwhelming and hazardous obstacles such as women and babies are encountered.
One more thing. Hey, CNS: Articles like this can be dangerous! They could result in someone getting hurt. I think I may have a slight concussion from my head hitting the desk when I fell out of my chair due to laughter after reading the woman and baby part. The cola I was drinking gushed out of my nose into my desk lamp and posed an electrocution hazard.
In closing, I trust that whoever speaks for the RCIPS will tell the truth and admit that the suspect made his escape by capitalising on lax security measures. Only then will women carrying infants be able to overcome the stigma of being labelled as a "means of escape" and once again walk in public with their heads held high.
(Now, could someone please hand me an aspirin and a paper towel?)
Wow! What a bundle of laughs! You’re too funny for your own good.
This entire scenario reminds me of the movies "Police Academy, Police Academy 2, Police Academy 3."
Sorry, out of aspirin. I have something even better, popcorn?
No surpriseto me!
The Ploice here keep showing their incompetence. They seem intent on letting the suspects go, screwing up the evidence when they do get to court or lying in court, all while causing undue stress to law abiding citizens with silly roadblocks for licence discs, front licence pates, tint etc. and silly ganja consumption (or small personal amount) charges. While the REAL criminals…violent (and white collar) roam freely.
Great going RCIPS…and Govt. Leaders (because you can change some of our outdated and foolish laws that clog up our justice system).
When one thinks about this abrupt action by this young man one cannot help but wonder just what was going through his head?
To explain running out of a police station while under arrest, seeking to hide on an island the size of Grand Cayman makes no sense at all.
Unless this person has charges facing him where he knew he was facing decades in prison or had knowledge of a life threatening nature, it baffles me.
It will most likely remain a mystery.
Was he wearing jail/custody uniform? It sounds like he was wearing personal clothing.
Here in the U.S., the only people in custody that wear their personal clothing are those that are arrested for drunk driving "dry-out,"…otherwise, a person in custody such as this would be wearing an "Orange Jumpsuit with XXX County Jail." Their personal property would be locked in the the jails’ property room – ID, money, jewelry, clothing…..
Inmates (in custody) wear prison uniforms that are easily identified by the public, whether it be white T-shirt, blue shirt (with buttons), blue jeans (no stone washed), or white shirt/white pants, jump suit….
No, he is Definatley NOT French, or he would have surrendered without putting up any resistance.
Also, the Germans are good at long distance running, not great sprinters, so that rules them out.
That he could dis-appear almost into ‘thin-air’ makes one believe that he might be some kind of Magician or Evil Wizard.
This is one reason why I have been pushing for Tracking-devices (anklets) to be used. If he had been wearing one, how far could he have gone?
For all we know, he might be in Honduras of Jamaica by now. If so, good riddance, I say.
This guy had a criminal mention on a charge of being concerned with the importation of cocaine in January, 2009. In 2008 he was charged with giving false name, date of birth and address to a police officer, threatening violence, obstructing Police, resisting arrest. You might think the police would have been prepared.
Hey he wasn’t taken in to custody he was already in custody when the young lady with her young baby was going inside to speak to someone and he ran out then..
When will the RCIPS get it right? Actually I think I know what the issue is, they finally had to do some walking and sweating and was totally wiped out after a long day on the beat, didn’t have the strength to secure the individual arrested and guess what – he saw an opportunity to escape and he did !! let’s see if he will be found on this 28 mile long rock. Excellent job, keep up the good policing !!! lol !!! I am patiently waiting to read the statistics on the number of police officers resigning now that they have to walk and ride around rather than sitting in an airconditioned vehicle while the Government pick up the gas tab.
The correct wording for this thread should be :Firearms Suspect released by RCIPS.
How can anyone dealing with a criminal gunman allow him to just walk off from detention like this. This is very suspicious and the RCIPS just makes themselves look totally imcompetent when things like this happen.
Mr. Baines you really owe the Public some explaination on this one.
Was the woman carryingthe baby the officer that arrested this criminal??????
They better work hard to catch him and CNS could you pIease check with the Police to see if they are keeping a 24 hr watch on those that were given bail in the murder cases. Some of these have committed serious crimes before and they are roaming the streets freely!
Is this the kind of work that we are paying the RCIP for, not following the right procedures of arresting a criminal of firearm offences, putting the public at risk. I really feel that they should stop worrying about minor offences like not having your licence plate on the front of your vehicle and tint being dark, remember that when you are trained to be an officer you are suppose to know how to asses all situations.
What nationality is this guy?
he looks german but is most likely french. the french are great sprinters and long distance runners.
No he looks more Hungarian or Vietnamese LOL LOL LOL. What a joke!
Come on guys, we know you’re working long hard shifts, you’re tired, and the weather is miserable, but who was guarding this person?. How did he manage to eldue custody? Aren’t persons who are brought into the station placed in handcuffs?. What if him escaping caused injury to this young lady and her baby, who is she to sue, Government or the escapee?
Where’s a good palm tree when you need one?
Thank you – that’s exactly what I was thinking:
1. Firearms suspect and you didn’t have him handcuffed?
2. Who was guarding him and how on earth did he escape them?
3. Why was he in the main reception area and not somewhere away from the general public?
Hey I agree with you but look at it this way he was already in custody when he escaped. The young lady and her young baby were about to go into the door where you go to speak to officers and thats when he saw her open the and headed towards it and almost knock her and the baby down flat. she must have had the shock of her life yesterday!!
why wasn’t he handcuffed??
Thank you CNS as this is the first I am hearing of this-yes hopefully it has been on the radio etc. but this type of information should be knocking you of your feet with every kind of alert possible as I am sure he has a plan before he escaped-Does he need to kill how many people before we know of his escape. Desperate time calls for desperate measures!!
My God help us!!!!
HAHAHA… and the police wonder why they can’t find any witnesses for these crimes! They prove their incompetence far too often for anyone with a grain of sense to trust them. BTW RCIPS great job on that raid in westbay on Friday!
Those who can…do
Those who can’t do it as well…teach
Those who are a total waste of space and definetly should not be allowed to have children write comments like yours.
you iz "definetly" right Makam. you iz "definetly" a bright boy Makam. you iz obviously someone who "definetly" can Makam. you must "definetly" keep us informed with your "definetly" enlightened comments. thank you very "definetly" much.
LMFAO! He escaped from GT police station! LOL. Too funny.
Can anyone really take the RCIP seriously? While they are pointing guns at children and busting in people’s doors (Compass, Monday 26 October), they have people escaping from custody. Where are their priorities? They seem to be terrorising innocent people and the guilty continue to thrive. But that is nothing new.
Rotten Incompetent Corrupt Police Service. And now, to help them in their incompetence to secure convictions (against innocent people in many cases) our English top cop wants to take away our right to a jury trial.
While our illustrious leader wants to take away our right to a fair trial with adequate counsel.
Lets the ‘experts’ say where Mr. Henry comes from…I suppose he is also Jamaican?
Yes – according to the wanted poster from previous crimes in the TCI he is Jamaican. Go on, are you really that surprised, or were you just stirring the pot? Jamaicans commit a substantial amount of crime here – because they are a substantial proportion of our community.
I was going to say based on his name, yes, he is Jamaican, but didn’t want to get bitched at for being racist. Looks like the truth is already known though. What a shame.
Handcuffs?
OF COURSE 11:57.
"officers immediately made chase"
And after 50m had to stop as they are so out of shape from sitting in their cars eating KFC!
I BELIEVE THE police will get more information on wanted suspected persons if they make a few posters and post them in public places; and do not leave out the schools. It would make your head spin to know the information kids have. So disturbing we have this person on the run, with these heavy rains I am sure he is living somewhere. Those persons who would likley see this persons one out of ten is not logged on to CNS.
Why the heck was a gunman NOT HANDCUFFED????????????
Oh boy – just when I was feeling a little better listening to the Commish on the radio this morning, now we see he really does have his work cut out for him.
Whoever was handling him needs to be FIRED immediately. SET AN EXAMPLE.
I AGREE ON THAT 11:38 Those policer officers should be fired immediatley, and unless this happens to a few, the the others never will take check.
Lazy, worthless and not thinking. Sorry, but I just got to say it. Criminal escaping from the police station. WHAT HAPPEN TO HANDCUFFS.????
Handcuffed? Why the Heck was he not shot (if he kept running after fair warning)? You know – "freeze or I shoot" – you believe him to be a gunman do you not? You believe he is wanted for the murder of a policeman in Belize, do you not? You believe he is now hiding somewhere, probably armed, and possibly going to shoot at the police or take a hostage do you not?
We have a little to much service and not enough force from you guys.
If you ever get him (he already escaped from Belize and TCI) remember to charge him with assault on the mother and baby.
What is most ironic about all of this is that if he presented himself for a clean police clearance certificate today, they would give him one!
Couldn’t we just let the new recruits watch TV to pick up some tips instead of going through a training course? I do believe the cuffs are removed just before the suspect enters the cell in most police dramas.
Maybe we have a different manual that allows anyone in custody for a period of time to act as an usher and that is why he was standing at the front door when the lady with a baby entered. However, if he was being booked at the front desk at the time the lady entered, then with hands cuffed behind his back it should not have been too difficult to chase him down.
How does a handcuffed man run faster than X number of officers giving "immediate" chase? They best leave him loose anyway because if they don’t, the "justice" system certainly will.
How is this possible? Wasn’t he wearing handcuffs??
I hope his family/friends who are aware of his whereabouts come forward to the police, and if not, I hope they can also be charged for obstructing and investigation. It’s not like this guy has plenty of places to hide with strangers, come on!
Another Canadian expat on an expired work permit on the loose! Round him up immediately!!!
Stand corrected, a photo has appeared, but a day late and a dollar short.
Wow, so not only can you not get caught by RCIPS, but IF they catch you, you can escape from the police station.
Wasn’t this guy in a locked cell? Wasn’t he handcuffed?
I have never seen such problems as I have with the police force here, not even in the biggest cities in the US or Europe. T
I feel sorry for the few who are competent as the majority of the team appears to be incompetent in every respect.
Oh, and to put this out a day later also says something about how much they really want the publics help, along with no photo. Don’t ask for help if you really don’t want it.
Has this gunman been found A YET? The marl Road has it that he is from Belize and is wanted there for a serious crime. The Public deserves to know something about him.
