Spirit Airlines makes emergency landing
(CNS): UPDATE – Owen Roberts Airport was placed on full emergency standby Wednesday evening as a Spirit Airlines Airbus carrying approximately 140 passengers made an unscheduled landing. CNS understands that the pilots made the emergency landing on Grand Cayman after smoke was seen in the cockpit. The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) confirms that at 6:18 pm on 25 November a commercial airline with approximately 133 passengers onboard made an emergency landing at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman. All airport emergency services were put on standby and the aircraft landed without incident. The aircraft, operated by Spirit Airlines, was en route to Ft. Lauderdale from Managua, Nicaragua, when permission to land in Grand Cayman was requested. The aircraft departed Grand Cayman at 10:34 pm.

Appalling that only one comment so far spoke to the real issue, all the rest somehow found a way to make it an "us-versus-them" issue (not counting Balanced View).
It is really sad that nothing can be reported or commented these days without a Caymanian/Expat component. God knows we need to stop this before it gets really nasty.

And by the way, Spirit flew scheduled service between Ft. Lauderdale and Grand Cayman for almost two years until 2008, until they chose to close the route.
I like their $9 fares, but they nickel and dime you with booking fees, seat fees, luggage fees, drink fees etc.
Still, when you are able to procure a $9 fare, it is well worth it!

Sorry to dissapoint that person, but if a plane is flying from managua to Ft Lauderdale, on a schedule flight, I really dont expect it to be filled to the brim with Caymanians….Sorry dude!

I honestly believe that such postings should be censored altogether. This is the sort of "ex-pat" bashing that allows the rest of the world to compare Caymanians to cave people. It’s unfortunate how one rotten apple/inexcusable comment can paint a seriously disparaging stereotypical picture for the rest of us (yes I am a born and bred Caymanian and very nationalistic).

This isn’t the first Airbus incident involving smoke in the cockpit.
