UK Tory candidate’s cash held in the Cayman Islands

| 29/11/2009

(Standard): High-profile Conservative party millionaire, candidate Zac Goldsmith is facing pressure to end his "non-dom" tax status as the party struggles to fend off claims that it wants to featherbed the rich. Goldsmith was accused of a "cynical" attempt to avoid taxes after it emerged that he benefited from a device normally used by wealthy foreigners working in Britain. Goldsmith, who grew up in Britain, claimed that his wealth will make him a good MP. "I was born into a position of privilege and am therefore not corruptible." He inherited a £200m fortune and said he was "non-domiciled" due to his late Anglo-French father’s own tax status. The bulk of his inheritance is said to remain in a Cayman Islands based family trust.

Get a real job Zac.  Forget the "born into priviledge" b.s. and earn your keep.  By the way an MP is not a job.  For you it will be a hobby. How in God’s name can you represent people who work and scrounge and save when you’ve never worked a day in your "priviledged" life?  Also Zacariah.. being born into wealth does not necessarily make you "incorruptible"…  but it does make you oblivious and out-of-touch.  Wanker

It is not a sin to be rich or wealthy like Mr.Goldsmith’s late father obviously had more faith in the Cayman Islands Banking systems than in the UK Banking Systems. The fact that his family trust is held in the Cayman Islands does not make him a criminal and he should not bow to the pressures of the French undercurrent pressure or the UK big spenders in parliament who I’m sure would love to get their hands on his fortune demonstrating their incompetence as always. The UK members of parliament is the subject of reckless spending of tax payers money and should be ashamed of themselves to have the audacity to even remotely come close to asking Mr. Goldsmith to relocate his family fortune in front of them. I believe Mr. Goldsmith said’ he was born into a position of privilege and is therefore not corruptible.’ He inherited a £200m fortune and said he was "non-domiciled" due to his late Anglo-French father’s own tax status. The bulk of his inheritance is said to remain in a Cayman Islands based family trust. Mr. Goldsmith it your right and privilege to make sure your family fortune remains in the Cayman Islands, the French vendetta working behind the scenes, nor the UK government have no right to tell you where to keep your money, It was your late father’s own tax status that was responsible for the location of the fortune and you inherited it. You can not be held responsible for what your father did. Hey! Mr. Goldsmith, if they pressure you too much you’re welcome to locate to the Cayman Islands which is greatly in need of incorruptible investors. 900 plus people are unemployed, I’m sure you would be a great help to them. Come and help build and organize for Cayman. Invest some of those dollars like the Dart family.
