Police seek hit & run driver

| 08/01/2010

(CNS): The RCIPS said this morning that police officers are looking for the driver a red Mitsubishi Pajero after two women were hit and injured near Centennial Towers, West Bay last night (Thursday 7 January) at around seven o’clock. A 20-year-old woman received injuries to her face, ankles and arm and was treated at George Town Hospital and released but a 54-year-old woman sustained serious head injuries after the car ran down the women and is presently in intensive care.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time and said the driver of the red Mitsubishi Pajero was a white male of slim build with his hair in a ponytail, wearing a red t-shirt and khaki pants.

Inspector Adrian Barnett of Traffic Management is appealing for anyone who may have have witnessed the incident or saw a jeep-like vehicle flee from the area to please come forward. Inspector Barnett can be contacted on 9466254.

As a Caymanian I’m more afraid of the POLICE than the CRIMINALS out there. There are PEOPLE in the POLICE Service that warn the CRIMINALS that a report was made against them and must stay low. In some cases the Criminal will be told who made the report………. How can we depend on giving key information and have to live in fear?????

  2. Anonymous says:

there is actually a red pajero with a male owner who carries his hair sometimes in a ponny tail lives in westbay and hangs out at macabuca in the evenings. well i called the police but they weren’t too interested. maybe the comissioner will read this.

    • Anonymous says:

That is a crying shame, no wonder the RCIP has such a bad name.  You should have told them that you had found some cocaine or ganja down by Macabuca, and you would have seen how quick they came then, with sirens blasting from the time that they left the Station.

That is why they cannot catch any criminals, you make a report to them about criminal activity taking place at a location.  Instead of them coming quietly and catch the hooligans red-handed, they blast their sirens from the time that they leave the Station, and of course the hooligans are gone. Common sense not common anymore, I am afraid.

    • Anonymous says:

You would have gotten better results from the polis if you told them that there was a red pajero down macabuca which was either speeding or had an expired tax disk…

There you go, another fine to go back to the station with and get ‘high fives’ for.

  3. Question says:

Isn’t it better that the driver at least got out and put the victims in a safe place than just drive like has happened on many occasions in the past?

    • Anonymous says:

You are kidding right…when you made this post…

Isn’t it better that the driver at least got out and put the victims in a safe place than just drive like has happened on many occasions in the past?

It seems that you are just as heartless as the criminal.

I hope we get an update soon saying that he has been caught, and not given bail either!!

RCIPS get out there and do your jobs…and stop ticketing people for everything else. EARN YOUR SALARIES, I HAVE TO WORK HARD FOR MINE!

    • Mozzie Fodder says:

Isn’t it better that the driver at least got out and put the victims in a safe place than just drive like has happened on many occasions in the past?

Yes, much better to drag them to the kerb like pieces of meat and leave them there. Just think if there were spinal injuries; moving them could have caused paralysis. The fact that he got out and did this proves to me he was a cold and calculating individual with a dark and sinister mind.

No guarantees he’ll be prosecuted if they do catch him; plenty of hit-and-run drivers have been let off in the past because of who they know.

  4. JEB says:

Why isn’t there an update yet saying that he has been arrested or turned himself in. The man is a heartless thing he can’t be called HUMAN. He hit the two ladies got out and moved them to the side of the road and got back into his vehicle and drove off. VERY HEARTLESS…………

Come on RCIP stop asking for eye witnesses you have been given enough evidence already. You have the model and color of the vehicle check out your records or is everyone……….. SLEEPING ON THE JOB.

Stop doing road blocks and giving tickets for a light being too dim etc. Work for your salaries that you all get each month don’t just be driving around in air conditioned cars talking on your CELL PHONES and then want to ticket others if they are seen on their phones.

RCIP you all need to wake up from the Commissioner right down

are the rcips able to solve any real crimes apart from traffic/speeding offenses??… i personally doubt it. any dealings i have with the police have left me very frustrated…. unfortunatly there are too many locals in the police farce which have little or no real training and seam to lack even basic educational standards

    • Anonymous says:

You are totally wrong. This is one of the problems now, we hardly have any locals in the Police Force. It seems as if you are frustrated because you dont have a job in the Force. Perhaps if you try you will be more successful than the poor local. YOU SEEM TO BE ONE OF THE HATERS TOO.

ok so look in the data base of all mitsubishi pajero and the color red and bingo, we have our culprit. you do have a database right? or has someone else not been doing their job?

Wow look Cayman has its very own Sherlock Holmes!  Well done for stating the bleedin’ obvious.

      • Anonymous says:

Did’nt you post that already? Or cat got your tongue that you can’t say nothing more? Because Sherlock holmes knows how to solve difficult cases but in this instance this is a simple case like i had post before and if you don’t like how i put down the details line by line that’s your business and thanks again for calling me Sherlock Holmes atleast i’m more intelligent than you. Oh yes, do me a favor and read my last post again 01/08/10 @ 17:56 And you might learn something about been a good detective before you run your mouth again.

        • Mrs. Hudson says:

From your ghastly grammar I doubt you are more intelligent (indeed I would hope that the vast majority of the population are more intelligent than you are we are all in trouble Sherlock).

But well done on stating the bleedin’ obvious.  You are very good at it.

          • Anonymous says:

It’s nothing wrong with my grammar, you are just jealous because I’m knowledgeable in solving cases, which is something you are lacking in, i think you should get a course in law school and then you will know how much sense i had made from the beginning and how wrong you are from the start. And next time call me Mr. Sherlock Holmes not just Sherlock.

            • Mrs. Hudson says:

Did he really say "It’s nothing wrong with my grammar"? Q.E.D.

PS I have an excellent law degree.

PPS Try capitalizing your "I"’s when used as a personal pronoun.  It would help to give the impression you are not an idiot.

              • Mr. Sherlock Holmes says:

Hey!!! You did’nt call me Mr. Sherlock Holmes and for your information I’m not an idiot, and you surprise me when you said you have an excellent law degree. So how come you did’nt fully agree with my formula that I used, because a lot of other readers on this forum agree with what I laid out earlier. And since you know law so well, you should have congratulate me on a excellent idea, instead of mocking me by saying Cayman’s own Sherlock Holmes, which is not a bad thing, but it’s how you post it that irritatedme. And by the way it not PPS, it is P.S. (Post Scriptum). Now tell me how you madea mistake like that? I don’t think idiot fits my character well, it is more like intelligent that goes with me and my new name, Sherlock Holmes.

Is there an update as to whether the driver has been apprehended?

The police have the description of the vehicle and driver so what is so hard about finding this criminal!

I guess this will be another unsolved hit and run! We really need to have police that actually go out there and find these criminals instead of having road blocks in the middle of the day on weekends!

This is an area where Government can cut salaries…as they are earning good salaries and not as the old people would say "striking a lick"!

  9. Anonymous says:

The police as usual will screw it up, that’s why we have so much crime, the police have such poor skills the criminals get away with it. RCIPS should be RIP, start over………

  10. Some guy says:

Honestly, this Island is in quite an awfull state.

God is not going to catch whoever did this. He is also not going to catch the people (or persons) who robbed the latest store that was robbed. And believe it or not, he is not going to solve all the murders that have taken place in recent times.

The only people that can make a diference here is us.

This Island needs to stop worrying about what God would do, and start worrying about what we can do. God ain’t here right now, he’s busy at the moment, maybe making a new planet, or drinkin some rum with some of the other gods or something.

I know it doesn’t sound like it, but I truly do have the upmost respect for everyones beliefs. But cumon Cayman, we have to solve these crimes oursleves.

After all, its the way God would want it?

    • True Believer says:

Bad things are all part of God’s wonderful plan for us all because he loves us.  They are not really bad things but steps towards wonderful things.  Thank you Lord for these recent crimes.

This is a easy case to solve, the Police are asking for any witnesses and the 2 victims give them the tools to work with already Tool (1) The color of the Vehicle ( Red ). Tool ( 2 ) What make and Model Vehicle it is ( Mitsubishi Pajero ). And tool (3) The Sex of the person ( Male ). Now I wonder how hard it is to track down this vehicle because there is only a few Red Pajero on this Island for it is not very popular Color with that vehicle.

Now all the Police officer had to do is take a step cross to License Department  and Print out a listing of the Model Vehicle that matches the description and license plate of each one of them and start a random search and question any individuals driving one that matches the description and at the same time the other officer does a inspection of their vehicle exterior looking for indication of any fresh damages and press the individual to answer how long that damage has been there if any found. In this case no witnesses are necessary with all the tools they already  have to work with. Rather Than Making A Big Thing Out Of A Simple Case……

    • What is your name? says:

Wow look Cayman has its very own Sherlock Holmes!  Well done for stating the bleedin’ obvious.

      • John Champion says:

I thought the previous poster did a good job of "statin’ the bleedin’ obvious" as you so tactfully put it.

I would suggest that you either be part of the solution or "shut your trap" as your bleedin’ countrymen would put it.

Sheesh, leave it at home mate! You are embarrassing us.

        • Hypocrisy! says:

So it OK for posters posting "there must be a database" to post the same point several times, but not to point out that this is "staing the bleeding obvious" several times.  I am trying to part of the solution – everyone trying to turn into Columbo and tell the police what to do doesn’t help anyone.

  12. Anonymous says:

Evidently, some people are unaware of what happens to people who do hit and runs, and are caught, or worse kill people while intoxicated behind the wheel of a vehicle. Not only do the majority of them get off, I know I have had a few friends killed by such people, but if they do get caught they are sentenced to no more than 1 year in HMP. With good behaviour, that equates to about 6months for killing someone…

They are then released or acquitted and are given their licenses again, so the cycle continues……..

  13. Joe bananas says:

You are all rignt to assume that given the make, model, and color of the car the police should easily be able to track it down.

You are all right to assume that because you all pay a good deal of money to register your cars that some of it should be spent on someone competent enough to write it down and enter it into the system.  Or at least that their should be someone competent enough to make sure that the person who is supposed to do that is actually doing it and not just texting funny messages to his friends all day.  Or that there should be at least one person that works there that knows the system enough to find the info on that particular car.

You are all right to assume that because you all give a good amount of what you earn to your goverment that you will be getting your moneys worth of work out of them.

    You are all wrong.

    • Joe Average says:

Correct me if I’m wrong I tink you’re right Joe. About everyone being wrong.

And I hope the person who was injured makes out ok.

Well the Police can go into the Dept of Licensing and search for the make, model and color of the discribed vehical…. Then start there man hunt with the number of vehical matching. Im sure they should come up with something.

As the department should have names and addresses.

Hoping all the best for the victims…..PRAYER IS THE KEY AT THIS TIME.

In the morning take a good look outside, look at the beautifuls sky with the clouds, all the creatures in the Air and of the Sea and of the Land and take a good look at the sea it self, the land, the Mounatins and the Hills and also the Moon, Sun and the Stars. And let we not forget the other 8 planets that God created to serve this beautiful planet we called Earth or should i say home and i guess you did’nt know that either? And tell me again that there is no God and I would shake my head and say to you, foolish and brain washed are you.

          • Anonymous says:

How God exist is not our business to know, if he wanted us to know he would have mention it in the Holy Scrolls, in which he have not, for only him hold the reasons why. You should take a trip to the Holy land and that would make you a believer in a minute, with all the evidence there, you would not doubt any further that there is a God.

            • A. Theist says:

So you say your God must exist because the universe has to come from somehwere, but when we ask where your God came from your response it "it is not our business to know".  Really, is that the best the Taliban can come up with?

If you accept that God can come into being without the need for linear causality whycannot the universe (or the multiverse) do the same?  Is your argument for the eternal nature of God not equally applicable to undermine your case in support of a deistic God intiating creating the universe?

              • Anonymous says:

Well first I’m not a Taliban. And God does not tell us everything that is not necessary, only what is necessary for us to know. Do you tell your Child/Children everything, if you have any? Because I only teach them what is necessary. Well if you agree with my answer to that question, then we have a understanding that God operates the same way when it comes to us. So I still stand by saying, it is still not our business to know about how the Existence of God happen but to embrace the fact that he does exist and thank him for breathing new air into our nostrils every morning and giving us life to see another day. That is what we shall be doing than to try to find out how he exist.

          • Heads-Up! Uranus says:

More like bada-bing, bada-boom…  And there she was!!!

        • Answers says:

Well, the sky is coloured by the ozone later and clouds are created by water vapour processes; the mountains were created by simple geological processes and plate tectonics; the sun, planets and stars can all be explained by astronomy and physics; the universe can be explained by the Big Bang, and physics now provides a good explanation for pre-Big Bang events that led to the Big Bang in the context of a multiverse; and the animals can all be traced in their development through evolutionary processes.  I can look at all these things, think they are wonderful and explain them without the need for a God.

So I tell you that I believe there is no God, not in the sense depicted in Bronze Age myths of Middle Eastern tribes and reflected in the Bible.  And you make call me a fool, but I am very intelligent, well educated and open minded human being, so I will thank you for your opinion and know that you are wrong.

          • anonymous says:

Give the poster a break for he/she is right to believe in God and who thought you all that rubbish? Science Class? I guess so, because they always want to make you believe that there is no God and like the poster said foolish would you be to believe in all that trash. I have a question, tell me with all of what you laid out, you never thought for once of a super natural being causing all that to happen, rather than just so? Not like what science thought you. Because nothing happens on it’s own, just like how you could not be born without a man and a woman same way the universe could not exist without a creator, science would never thought you that, for science and astronomy wants to be God. I hope you wake up and face the reality.

It is now more obvious that you have been brain washed with that science grap!!! I hope someday you would see that light and hold God hands instead.

OK so this was a red Pajero driven by a white guy with a pony tale and wearing red top and khaki pants.  We have such a detailed description here but no mention of the colour of the man’s hair??  Might be helpful don’t you think?

I commend the previous posters suggestion that here can’t be too many red Pajeros on the island.  One would have thought in an area so small as Cayman, that the vehicle licensing authority would keep such records and make them avaialble to the Police at time like this.  This would include all the vehicle details and a copy of the drivers’ licence – should be a simple process of elimination for the Police then.

If that is the case then he should be charged with something more serious than hit and run.  Some people just don’t have any heart or conscience.  Bad enough that he hit them but then to pull them out of the road and leave is unforgivable.  Better you spend some time in prison and lose your licence for a year or two than to jeopardize a life.

All sarcasm aside I agree this is a simple matter and he will be caught – I however only hope that the loser doesn’t get a good lawyer who will find some ludicrous loophole to get him off with a slap on the wrist.

And for the non praying person who made such a harsh comment earlier think outside of the box for a second.  Everyone knows you will get medical help – but even the best surgeon in the world probably prays that someone he is operating on will make it!

It is a shame that so many people in society do not feel they have to take ownership or pay for their mistakes in life.  So many that go through the court system get away with their actions that the morally challenged feel they can get away with whatever they do as well.

I share your concerns and best wishes for the victims. Police – how difficult is it to ask your computer database for the names and addresses of the owneres of every red Mitsubiushi Pajero in Cayman. There cannot be more than 20 of them and you re-license them every year.  If you truly cannot run such a search then you are nothing short of incompetent and your systems a danger to the community.

Last night I approched a road block near the Hurleys Round-About. Two different cars avoided the police by simply continuing around and going back the way they had come. Was there a hidden police car to pull them over? No. Result, only people willing to go through the road block and face police scrutiny were stopped. Everyone with something to hide simply turned around and drove away.

Sorry – I am normally a big supporter but are you really the total morons you make yourselves appear to be?

In the time they took to issue a press release to appeal to the public to help identify the person and vehicle any sensible system would in 30 seconds printed out the names and photographs and addresses of every individual with a red pajero. A police car would be dispatched to the addresses in west bay first, with a prefernce for any photo showing a white male with a ponytail, and ann arrest could possibly have been made before the ambulance reached the hospital. None of this should wait until today.

Has that even been attempted yet – or is someone filling out an FOI request to be dealt with when someone else is back from leave on Monday, if such a review is even possible with our crap systems.

And sorry – even if I am wrong about the above, NOTHING excuses not chasing down persons who openly avoid police roadblocks. They may not really be morons but they certainly appear moronic.

Haines, Brady, Pepsi, please come and sort these guys out. The Lord will forgive them for they know not what they do – but havingbeen a victim of at least 2 unsolved crimes since Ivan, and one before, I am pissed.
