No motive yet in Spence murder
(CNS): While police investigating the shooting death of 32-year-old Courtney Spence do not appear to have established a motive for the killing, they say they building a comprehensive picture of the victim’s professional and private lives. When asked if they have any leads, the RCIPS said that enquiries are ongoing, but they are appealing again for the public to come forward with information. Spence was shot at 11:10pm on Thursday, 28 January, as he left work at Progressive Distributors in Sparky Drive, George Town, and police said that a post mortem examination carried out on Wednesday afternoon confirms the death was caused by a gunshot wound.
The officer leading the enquiry, Detective Inspector Lauriston Burton said, “My officers have taken a number of statements from friends, family and workmates of the victim as part of the enquiry. We are now starting to build a comprehensive picture of Mr. Spence, and his professional and private lives, as we strive to find a motive for the killing. We also had officers in the area of Sparky Drive last night – exactly one week from the date of the murder – interviewing people who may have been in the area at the same time last week. “I know we have already made a number of appeals for information and I have to say that we have been pleased with the public response so far. However, it is absolutely imperative that we speak to everyone who has any information about the victim or the crime as quickly as possible.

Who said there has to be a motive? It could be that one of the ‘gangsters’ responsible for any of the unsolved murders in Cayman has developed a taste for blood and is picking victims at random.
Unfortunately there is so much backed up investigations at the RCIPS that they are lucky to not be just starting to investigate crimes of 5 years ago.
It would seem natural that if they dont care about solving the crimes that they would delay the investigation until all possible evidence has disappeared.
Just like they walked away and left the evidence in other cases this one is no different.
Until the RCIPS is staffed by officers who take an interest in their jobs thingswill never be any different and that goes for all including those at the top.
Curiously, it is a common practise of police forces worldwide to revisit crime scenes days and especially, 1 week after the crime within the same time-frame. It seems to be a new approach and is apparently generally successful. But notice I said "police forces", not clown troupes.
For most of our ‘finest’ to solve crimes they would have to be at the scene when the crime occurs!

Seriously, Guys, if you can’t see what’s wrong with this statement, then by all means, start watching Law and Order, NYPD Blue, The First 48 or even Barney Miller for God’s sake….You need to understand how to do REAL police work…..Interviewing potential witnesses ONE FULL WEEK AFTER a crime is commited is not gonna cut it…you guys should have been knocking on doors THAT NIGHT…and NOT STOPPED until everyone had been interviewed who lived within 1/4 mile of that crime scene….
Long gone are the days when all you had to do to solve a crime was round up the "usual suspects" and interrogate them until someone broke down and coughed to it…These days it takes brains as well as brawn to solve these crimes….
I guess RCIP trying to point out they are improving – it’s ONLY 1 week not several months or never.
