TD 4 becomes season’s third tropical storm

(CNS): Tropical Depression 4 turned into Tropical Storm Colin early this morning according to the National HurricaneCentre in Miami. Currently the third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season is moving at around 23 mph and poses no threat to land including the Cayman Islands. At 5am EDT Colin was 945 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.  Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph with higher gusts with some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 36 hours or so. The NHC warns that interests in the Northern Leeward islands should monitor the progress of Colin as the centre is expected to pass well to the north of the area late Wednesday and early Thursday.

 

 
Tropical storm force winds currently extend outward up to 35 miles from the centre and no warnings or watches are yet in effect relating to the storm.
