One driver in fatal car crash cleared of DUI

| 06/08/2010

(CNS): While both drivers involved in the fatal accident on Tuesday, 3 August, were initially arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said Friday afternoon that one of them has now been cleared, having passed all relevant screening tests for DUI. The other driver, who was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving as well as DUI, remains in George Town Hospital undergoing treatment for non life-threatening injuries. As a result of the two car collision on Harquail Bypass, which police say occurred a few yards from the Lakeside Condos at approximately 12:30am, a 24-year-old old female passenger in a Honda civic sustained serious injuries when it collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser. She was later pronounced dead at the George Town Hospital.

Enquiries into the cause of the accident are still progressing, police said.

Unbelievable; or am I going mad? Please help. Did the accident really occur a few (small number) yards from Lakeside or hundreds of yards from Lakeside? Are the police STILL that incompetent or am I totally wrong about where this accident occurred? Please help! Either way, I still say the Police are incompetent. (My apologies to the few that may be competent but as usual, the innocent suffer for the guiilty and if I am wrong about the location of the accident,  I apologize but only for being wrong about where I thought the accident occurred).

IF I AM CORRECT, we should charge the police with misinformation (INCOMPETENCE?) and all those who blogged about why the accident happened, (proximity to Lakeside) with "jumping off the cliff of inconclusiveness"!

Yes you are apparently going mad! So please in the meantime refrain from charging the police. In fact I suggest that you dont be in charge of charging anybody. You are still allowed to charge purchases on your credit card though  and provided you have not maxed that out. Thanks for your restraint in charging the police or anybody else…

I actually saw them there today (friday) with the bypass closed from 1 direction.  Perhaps they are pinning down where it happened right now.

Whether the accident occured a few yards or a hundred yards from Lakeside is irrelevant. The distance, near or far from Lakeside is not the point. The point is :  DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!

The accident occured due to human error on the part of the driver who should not have been driving in the first place being under the influence of alcohol and has nothing to do with the competency of the police. They were not hired to babysit drunks.

Accidents happen even to the most cautious and defensive drivers – more so when one has had one glass too many.

As an example,  I could cite an incident where my car was just sitting pretty in my yard but was nonetheless damaged by a drunk who reversed into it. Thankfully no one was hurt.
