Burglars leave message about need for work

| 21/09/2010

(CNS): Burglars appear to have left a message for the government about the real problem of unemployment during a break-in which took place on Friday evening (17 Septemebr). Owners of the Crewe Sports bar on Eastern Avenue in George Town discovered that, while the burglars had made off with a selection of bottles of booze from their stocks, they had also left a message behind. Written on the wall above the bar was a message saying “Need work help plze” in permanent marker. News 27 reports that the perpetrators also left a note in the bar’s cash register repeating the same message. The police have reportedly taken the note into evidence hoping that it may assist in the enquiry.

    Why do we feel sorry?

As i read comments, i am wondering why do we feel sorry for someone who steals alcohol, wounld’nt it have been more better to rob a grocery store so that they could have stolen food if they were hungry, i don’t think alcohol feeds the hunger.

most of these burglaries that has been happening is a mixture of ages, these thevies uses the stolen goods to benfit themselves, they do not bring it home and feed their familes, they sell the goods mostly to surpport their drug habit, i know i grow up in a poor community and know the ropes.   but thankfully my mother held two jobs and moved us she was also a very strick lady making sure my backside was home not roaming on the streets, this is to show you that no matter where you are living in a poor or rich area parents make a diffrence.

are these theives any better than me when it comes to pride, to ask another neighbour for something, and explaining my situation, for this little islands we have so many houses. NO their excuse is they are to shame face and have to much pride, if that is the case then to HE_ _ with them.

When i go out to burger king or any fast food resturant, why do i see a diffrent nationality working at the cash register, oh i forgot the theives have to much pride, or they don’t want their friends to see them, or the money is not good enough for them . if people are making excuses that their is no jobs then you need glasses i don’t think you are seeing to properly.

As for me personally the little thevies better not break into my house, i do not trust them,  you never know the kind of mentallity that is inside their heads and i will NOT ALLOW them to hurt my kids, because i am most definitely gonna  put one upside their heads.

This is the effect that too much Ganja has on some people…. No ambition and just worthless. Why dosen’t the governemnt pass a law that all employers can ask for a randon drug test…that would slow down the Cocaine and Ganja trade.

    • Anonymous says:

No dear, this is the effect of ALCOHOL.  A far, far worse drug than ganja.

    • Caymanian 2 Da Bone says:

actually although I’m pro legalisation (it would do the tourism trade wonders)

I do beleive if they are not going to legalise they should start testing the civil service, everyone inlcuding MLA’s on a quarterly basis.

How about this was a gang initiation crime?  They needed to write that in order for the gang leader to know for sure they did the robbery?  I am so sorry that Cayman is going through this.  It is a shame that a few "ugly" people are ruining Caymans reputation.

Get out on the streets people. Make neighborhood watches.  Don’t be afraid. Gang Bangers are afraid of people who stand up for themselves. They tend to dwell on people that have low self esteem.  Walk with your heads held high.  You CAN beat this crime wave, but everyone needs to be involved.

As much as I hate to say it, the police are friends with people in gangs.  That is how it works.  They make friends with the members so they don’t have to worry about their families or loved ones getting hurt. It is the gang’s circle of life.

Peace to the People of Cayman!  I sure do hope it comes your way soon.

why didn’t the thief/thieves protest in front of the LA building in downtown GT with placards and signs stating "NEED WORK,HELP PLZ", wouldn’t that be a stronger way to send a message to our politicians?……but oh no they couldn’t cause These worthless, ambitionless careless creatures are not serious about finding work, obtaining things the easy way by further sinking small buisness people is the ultimate goal for these lowlife scumbags!

  6. Anonymous says:

Sounds to me like their need for the bottle is over and above their need for work.  They get no sympathy from me.

Remember the definition of Caymanian is very wide, we come from all national origins, yet many unpatriotic, self serving people people think they are only accusing ‘native’ Caymanians of having negative traits.

What about the young Canadian-Caymanian, English-Caymanian, Jamaican-Caymanian? etc Are they included? How do they feel whenyou constantly accuse them of these negative traits?

It will not be surprising when in a few years we have more confused, young people who were born and raised here yet made to feel being Caymanian was only a means to assert entitlement to certain jobs and that somehow they would be able to distance themselves from other Caymanians (local) realise their identity and dreams are not necessarily based on their parents’ heritage.

So yes the robbers may be Caymanian and we have over 100 national origins to chose from and the more some people try to divide ‘Caymanians’ the more we will all suffer, directly or indirectly on this small island; and they never stop to think about the new generation of Caymanians who are sick of these stereotypes by people obviously looking out for the interest of their foreign friends and not future of Caymanians.

Unless of course, people here agree that it is only the native Caymanians and Spanish that would suffer from inferior education and lack of employment opportunities. As a result are they agreeing that only work permit holders (foreigners) are given the opportunities and so no need to resort to violence?

  8. Anonymous says:

Following on from this – statistics say that we are down 2100 work permits in the last 6 months.  Do we know that these 2100 people actually left?  Just a thought ……………..

Drinking Alcohol, complaining that life sucks!

i see that they took alcohol, what were they planning to do? get drunk and sit around complaining life sucks, boo hoo. heads up no ever said life was going to be easy. I see alot of younger and older adults that got got laid off from their jobs, these pepole who i have come to admire, some of the younger kids even go out with their parents to do garage sales, ect.   these parents speak to their childrean straight no hiding around the bushes making everything look pretty, mind now these parents have kids to feed, bills the whole nine yard.

i am a parent when i see my kids do something wrong i don’t pat their heads and say " oh, your just a baby", guess what! these babies grown up mighty fast. i deal with the matter right then i don’t turn my head, i make them understand from point a-z, then i make them clean up their own mess, i sureain’t doing it for them.

family come together to cope with what is going on, a lot of people that have got laid off, got jobs that were below their qualifications, but still held on until they find better. some persons needs to stop making excuses for these peopole, it a whole diffrent story when they break into your house and you are a victim of a burglary.

let me tell you a story how a kid and be disrespectful and the kind of adult he is going to be.  on 20/09/2010 i was at fosters, as i was putting grocerices in my car, i saw a young man wearing clifton hunter uniform, a older lady whom i am assauming is his mother gave him a white bag, looked like donuts to me,  anyhow it wasn’t what he wanted, he then started to curse this lady saying " if she can’t do anything right" he then to my very own eyes spit in her face, demanded she go back inside and get him what he wanted.

this is my very own thought " on lord, have mercy in my soul" i would have break at him so fast, and full his mouth with blood and make him eat that donut, i looked at him and told him i wish he was my son, that he should be ashamed of himself speaking to his mother like that, that he didn’t deserved her.  you know what’s funny as i was in my car, kids don’t speak to their fathers that way, but they do it with their mothers.  mothers this is what going to happen to you, next thing you know the beatings start.  this kind of behaviour starts, they can’t handle the hard stuff so therefor crime rises.

people need to stop making excuses and feeling sorry for them, if you feel sorry for them reach out to them, be real with them.  i read the newspaper, they are jobs that advertised looking for construction workers, yes i may not last for long, but come on if you spend the day bouncing along looking for the rainbow, bounce youselves over to the construction site.

Exactly what i spoke of in my previous text.. Spare the rod spoil the child. I feel sorry for that lady,i too would have definately busted his a.. for him.

I have a feeling that the types that robbed this joint probably have a problem getting any kind of job based on his/her short comings and perhaps even some good ole discrimination….

Small business are closing everyday, crime while yet not rocketing has made its presence known showing its limits are based on mood and necessity(not good)

Govt seems confused slow to react if they react at all.

Our people are divided by color, class and nationality.

It truly has become sad, what we have become  or what we have always been!

Regardless of the debate on spelling or the motives for writing the message on the walls the stark reality is that many people in this country are now unemployed and have become desperate and, yes, ignorant as a result of their suffering.

    • Pauly Cicero says:

I have a feeling some were ignorant long before the suffering started.

Poverty is no excuse for a crime. One poster on this site tells how he had to take low paying jobs until he was able to get a better one. The foreigners here work  as security, gardeners, domestics, construction labourers and other low paying jobs. Get up and do something even self generated job to help yourselves. 20 years ago we would look down with disdain on a water coconut vendor peddling to tourist on the waterfront. (We behaved as Cayman was too rich  to do these menial work). This has been one of staple self employment in some Caribbean Island for quite a long time. I was pleasantly surprised to see a gentleman selling jelly coconuts in George Town to the delight of the tourist who formed a line to purchase theirs. This is an example of a self motivated citizen. There are others. No work is demeaning. What is demeaning is when people have to resort to robberies , burglaries and Social Service to provide for their basic needs. many people , myself included create a back yard garden ,plant tomato ,pumpkin.breadfruit,avacados,mangoes. Not that these young ones would engage in agriculture , just use your initiative if you can’t find the job you are qualified for. I think there is a song that goes:"get something and wave." "Do something nuh" One more thing how comes these robbers did not look for food items if they were that desperate, instead of booze?

    • Anonymous says:

Yes, terrible that they have to steal bottles of booze because they can’t afford to drink water.

    • Anonymous says:

Don’t even try that…  These are not fools i.e. they do not know any better, rather they are idiots who do not care. They stole RUM, this is not people desperate for work or stealing to feed their families. These are parasites on society that have no morals or consideration.

A small time gardener makes $75 for every yard they cut, and that is not rocket science. Stop crying that there is no work, I see decent hard working people who lost their big time jobs taking manual labor because it is better than stealing. We need to stop making excuses for criminals. There is absolutely no need for this foolishness to be happening in Cayman.

If it is our people LOCK them up and make them do some hard time, not the pansy Northwood hotel stuff but work them for their debt to society. If it is foreign nationals send them back to their countries, if they can not find or will not work an honest day, SEND THEM BACK.

It is terrible that we have foreigners here on work permits when there are thieving alcoholic locals desperate for a job. . .

    • Anonymous says:

Who is to say that they are locals, or were you present at the time of the crime.

      • Reality Check says:

Presumably if they were expats here on a work permit, they would have a job.

Sure there are exceptions due to locals taking out fake work permits to import unemployed people (for god knows what reason), but generally if the person is unemployed, they are not an expat.

Unless you mean to suggest that a cruise ship or overnight tourist broke in to steal the booze (maybe their minibar was empty), and wrote on the wall to throw our crack RCIP investigators off the track?

    • Anonymous says:

Gee.  I thought most of the thieving alcoholic locals had already been given government jobs.

  15. Anonymous says:

And this is supposed to make us feel sorry for them?   Maybe they should have walked into the bar and asked for a job instead of robbing them – just a thought……….

  16. Jingo Jango says:

Someone should tell these folks that the recession ended over a year ago.

    • Anonymous says:

"The recession ended over a year ago"? That’s " Bull", where are You Living?

    • Anonymous says:

Hmm didn’t know that and neither does my employer it seems, given that I’m now in my 3rd year without a wage rise or bonus; still doin overtime for free and plain lucky to still have a job.  Moved out of my own home over a year ago to live in shared rented accommodation; can barely afford to eat… but I still won’t ever thieve!

  17. Anonymous says:

Hmm…let’s steal alcohol because they need a job. Now that makes sense.

If one is really jobless and in need of a job why doesn’t one start pounding the sidewalks and start applying for a job. I was out of work 3 years ago and had to work 3 lousy payless jobs to keep paying my mortgage. Was it what I wanted to be doing? No, but it kept my head above water until I could find a job in my field. I am positive proof that if you want a job bad enough you can find one (or three) to feed the children or pay the mortgage. You just have to be motivated to do so and settle for what you can get at the time as you need to realize money is money and that is what pays the bills and feeds the kids.

I notice that the message "need work plze " kind a look like some spanish speaking person, as they usually spell pleze for please. Just a tip.

    • Eiblo Goughts says:

Have you seen some of the spelling from self-proclaimed Caymanians on this site?  Stop trying to whip up anti-foreigner feeling.

    • Anonymous says:

pleasssssse that ain’t no clue, plz is used as an abbreviation for please, furthermore why does it have to be a spanish person, what about filipino, jamaican, indian, australian, american, caymannian or one of the other 100 odd nations living here .

    • Dred says:

      Okay you begged for this.

Now because you assumed that the use of "plz" to be someone with limited knowledge of English would it be okay then for me to assume that you are computer or technology illiterate for not recognizing this NOW international symbol for please?

Please today is shortened to either "pls" or "plz" in texting or online.

If this is indeed a plee for work as the wording states but logic says is stupid to rob and ask for work but if in fact it is someone REALLY looking for work I would think it to be a local. Foreigners here without work more than likely want to fly below the radar.

Anyways it’s all stupid anyhow because what chance would they have of getting a job when they are stealing.
