Caymanian game designer hits global apps stage

| 21/09/2010

(CNS): Local games designer Garth Humphreys has made history by becoming the first Caymanian to have a game application he designed published and distributed by Apple iTunes. His game Wubble is now available in the iTunes App Store and Humphreys says he feels like he has hit the big time. The game is a simple, yet fun word challenge for all ages and it has placed Humphreys on the world stage of game applications. While Humphrey’s says he’s not expecting to be rich beyond his wildest dreams yet the satisfaction of getting his game published is a pretty good reward.

“It won’t make me rich, but just seeing Wubble take off, gives me great satisfaction. Being picked up by a global company is a big feather in my cap and shows that perseveration pays off. This is abig break for me,” Humphreys explained, adding that he loves animation and games and has been working on perfecting a game of his own for some time. Gizmoko Games is the studio owned by Humphreys where he works on developing games, interactive websites and animated commercials with Adobe Flash.
As with many big ideas, Wubble had a rather obscure start. “It actually came from discussing a puzzle game with an underwater bubble theme with my fiancé in a restaurant, hence my tag line ‘burst their bubble with the highest score in the game called Wubble!’” Humphreys revealed.
The game challenges players word skills as they must try to unscramble as many six-letter words as they can in order to be crowned the champion wordsmith.
Wubble is now available for download for the iPhone and iPad for $1.99 ( ).

WOW, seems like the person(s) giving a thumbs down on everybody congratulating Garth is either (1) and idiot or (2) a hater…. I think it’s both!

Anyways Garth if you are reading this, they obviously didn’t stop you from achieving your dream and we are all proud of you, well most of us are anyway!

Garth, great initiative, good job, may you prosper. If our carriers could provide iphones here it would be even better.

    • Lister says:

Yes, both carriers are so busy fighting each other for market share, they fail to recognize the real demand from consumers which is true 3G networks and better smart phone support such as IPhone and Droid.

Congrats Garth!  Your family and your community is very proud of you.  I’m even more impressed that you taught yourself programming – that shows initiative!  Passion and persistence led to your success and I wish you much more success in the years to come.  I know many of our techno-savvy children would be impressed so share your experience and let our young ones be inspired by your accomplishment.

Congrats Garth on your achivement. This what other young Caymanians should emulate. Stick to your education, and you parents out there who are not sitting down with your kids to assist them with their home works and motivate them to higher heights please start doing so now. Instead of second jobs(I know that this is a necessity for some struggling single parents) and parties sit down with your young ones and counsel them, motivate them, love and encourage them, because they are the treasures of tomorrow.

W Clement Stone says in his book,"What the mind of man can think and believe ,it can achieve". Napolion Hill says "ideas are things". all achievements in human history started as an idea. From the pyramid of Egypt, to the Empire State Building. Our young people are the future let us put them first . Let us lay the foundation for bridging the gap between the "haves" and "the haves not"

Awesome! This is the direction young men. Be entreprenuers & direct those skills in whatever your good at.There’s acceptability & room for everyone. Look at watch brands, there’s a endless number, but yet almost every single one appeals to different people & sales aren’t slowing down. Congrats Garth. Commitment is the difference between winning & almost winning. Proud of you.

To Tue, 09/21/2010 – 21:30 – Oh come on man, why rip him off by getting it from Installous which offers cracked software. He’s put a lot of work into it, support him and get it from its legitimate source at the iTunes Store.

Your response was not unexpected. I wonder how many other people would share your view while at the same time believing that there is nothing wrong with downloading commercial software,  movies, music etc? What about hacking your game console to play "backed-up" games, using a FTA satellite box to access DishNetwork signals (in fact using a subscribed box in Cayman is only marginally better), jail-breaking your iphone/ipad/i-whatever-the-hell-apple-comes-out-with-next, renting tapes from the typical tape club (I guess that would be DVDs these days)? Are these activities really any better from an ethical standpoint, than walking out of Foster’s without paying for the items hidden in your jacket? I’ve often thought that many people here were morally ambiguous when it comes to intellectual property rights. The fact that these same people would be angered by my suggestion to rip-off this particular young man’s hard work, only demonstrates my point. Anyway, my movie just finished downloading so off to watch the latest Hollywood release!

By the way, I was sincere in my compliment…it is an admirable achievement

BIIIG thumbs up to this young Entrepeneur!!  I, for one, am extremely happy to see a young Caymanian make his mark in this world.  These are the kinds of people other young Caymanians should be trying to emulate…NOT those idiots who wear a rag on their heads and stand around trying to look tough..Garth, I don’t know you personally, but you have my admiration..
