Five go to battle for beauty pageant crown

| 23/09/2010

(CNS): On Saturday five young Caymanians will battle it out for the coveted title of Miss Cayman Islands and the chance to be an ambassador for their country. Aside from attending the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants the winner of the crown will spend the next twelve months promoting the islands on behalf of the department of tourism. The five finalists have spent the last few weeks at photo shoots, public appearances and specialist events drumming up support for themselves their sponsors and their chosen charities but it all boils down to the judges’ decision on the night.

The Pageant will take place at the Lions Centre starting at 7:00pm but organisers said the gates will open at 6:00pm.

“This year’s theme is ‘Earth, Wind and Fire’ and will convey a mystical, elegant tone for the Pageant,” organisers stated.

The five contestants – Venessa Ebanks, Mysti Bush, Trudy Ann Duncan, Shari Walton and Cristin Alexander have been training for weeks with Ford Fitness, former Miss Cayman Stacey Ann Kelly, Trainer Dwight Rivers and the Toastmasters Club, and are ready to hit the stage.

General Admission is $25.00 for adults and $15 for children but those under 12 are free. VIP tickets cost $100 which includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and first-class seating.
Tickets are available from Le Classique, Reflections, Eclipze, Funky Tang’s, Government Administration Building, Ministry of Tourism – Dawn McLean-Sawney 926-2577 or Shena Ebanks 917-9897, the Miss Cayman Committee  members – Lovenia Ebanks 916-0264 – and contestants.

Not sure who will win as they are all beautiful young women.  However, I listened to the brief introductions on DayBreak and in all honesty I can say Ms. Ducan’s speech was excellent and she was very polished.  As Ms. Cayman thekey role of this position is that of being an ambassdor of the Cayman Islands.  Just based on speeches I give her 100% and say to her maintain this ability throughout the evening and you will do well.

  3. WEST BAY FAN CLUN says:

My favourite is # 5 Cristin Alexander! You have it all going for you, poise, educated, beauty…

    Good luck

I’m not trying to play favorites but close your eyes and listen to each contestant’s profile on Cayman 27. They are all beautiful but only one really stands out when it comes to the ability of Public Speech. Whoever is crowned Miss Cayman Islands will have to serve as an ambassador to the island. She will have to present herself on numerous occasions, speak, address audiences and grab their attention not just with her physical appearance. Listen closely and you will not hear amm…umm…like…after each sentence.

  5. Former MC Contestant says:

To all the girls, everyone may have their favourite but it takes alot to sign that form to enter! That alone shows great character that even though there is alot of negativity towards this pageant (pageants in general) you girls have decide to embark on a journey you will never forget!

I congratulate you all! You have made your families and Caymanians proud. Show Cayman not all young people are ‘bad’.

I wish you all the best of luck on Saturday and cherish all the memories!

From the first time I saw the ladies in the paper I choose "Cristin Alexander" because she has the height and is very beautiful.  I know that education is very important but I am sure she is very intelligent as well.

Good Look Cristin and I’m sure your Daddy would be very proud of you!!

CNS, I really think you should moderate this and not either 1. Allow any postings or 2. leave off the negative.  I know you argue for free speech etc, but the negative views undermine what everyone is trying to achieve.  (and I don’t have anything to do with the event – it just does not make good reading)

    • Pauly Cicero says:

Sorry, you’ll have to do your own censoring. Only you know what is negative to you.

  17. Anonymous says:

This will be a tough competition between Cristin and Shari. Both amazing young women!

    Good Luck!

  18. Brac Booby says:

  20. bRAC TO THE bONE says:

SHARI WALTON  will be the next Miss Cayman!

    1. Shehas Beauty

    2. Real Caymanian Charms & Values

    3. Intelligence

    4. Honesty, Integrity, and above all the love for her Country, who else could possible represent these Islands for what we are.

On another note, all of these girls competing are very brave to have allowed themselves to be place in the public eye for scrutiny……

It will be a lovely event so all those who do not attend dont many any insulting comments as everyone of us have children or have brothers and sisters who do!

  21. ProudCaymanian says:

Go Kristen!!  You’ve definitely got what it takes to represent Cayman at home and abroad.  Beauty, education, poise, manners, kindness and personality.  I’m behind you 100%.

  22. Cristen's No.1 Fan says:

    Go Cristen! woo-hoooo!

    • Just Sayin says:

I sincerely hope that if and when I do get a #1 fan myself, that he/she first takes the time to learn to spell my name correctly.

      • Cristen's No.1 Fan says:

Her name is correcty spelt "Cristen", sweetheart.

Try getting your facts right and then maybe, just maybe, you can get a No.1 fan, a fan, a ceiling fan or any other kind of fan – or atleast you will get an actual point to your posting.

        Smooches!

were those dresses coordinated or just a coincidental lack of originality?

    • Anonymous says:

      stop hating!!

    • Really now says:

Cant people at least try to be supportive for once? these young ladies are working very hard to compete for the title and all you can hear is negative comments. Did you see the dresses in person? Some of those dresses came from world class designers and the picture does not do them justice.

Ladies pay no mind to the haters, go out there and do your best and remember you are all winners to have the courage and strength to do this especially considering how your own people choose to mock you at a time like this. Please remember we are not all so "bad minded" and some of us are supporting all of you.

Do your best, make us proud and God bless each of you!

    • Come see says:

Come see what youare wearing as you type garbage, you obviously have no sense of style and taste and can’t recognise a designer dress even when it is right there in colour!

  24. S. Stirrer says:

Is there a toilet outside the gate I could just flush my money in to instead?

    • Keep it says:

Maybe you can buy a better attitude one day

    • Twyla Vargas says:

All the girls are so beautiful, please let us be nice to them. You may have our faourite girl, no problem, but   it should mean alot to her knowing that we are being nice to every one.

My favourite girl is Mystie Bush, and I could list a hundred reasons why I think so, but only in a few words I will say this..

"Ride out the Stom God is there with you."Dont give up the battle  just ride out the storm"
