Robbers try again at Dominos
(CNS): Update Friday 10:47am – Police have now confirmed that two masked suspects robbed Dominos Pizza in Mary Street last night, Thursday 30 September, following a failed attempt the night before. No arrests have been made in relation to the incident. The RCIPS said that just before 6:20pm two masked men, one armed with what appeared to be a handgun, forced their way into the premises and threatened staff before making off with a small sum of cash. No shots were fired and no-one was injured in the incident. It is believed that the suspects left the scene of the crime in a green Honda Civic. Police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search for the suspects and the getaway car. Enquiries with the owner revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from outside the Cayman Islands Hospital, George Town, on Thursday morning.
One of the suspects is described as being 6 feet tall, slim build, wearing a white long sleeved hooded shirt, faded jean pants and a black mask. The other is said to be approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, slim build, wearing a black long sleeved hooded shirt and a black mask.
Although police were on the scene Thursday evening, officers refused to reveal any details of the robbery. As the incident occurred outside ‘office hours’ no one else from the RCIPS could be reached for comment. Despite the lack of official confirmation last night, CNS learned that after Wednesday night’s failed attempt, Thursday’s robbers did escape with an undisclosed sum of cash. It is not known at this time if these were the same men.
According to News27 yesterday’s robbers were foiled by a new security system in which those trying to gain entry have to be buzzed in to get through the door, so when the robbers hit the buzzer a female employee managed to scare them off. It is unclear how they managed to bypass the system this evening.
The system was put in place as the store is no stranger to robberies. The same branch was robbed back in June when armed men crashed through the doors and stole cash before making their escape. No one has been arrested in connection with that crime.

Is not time that the property owners take responsibility for their tenants by closing the ‘free’ walkways from street to street. Erect and secure your boundaries/fences. Any armed robber can walk/move across properties easily.This is creating easy access to criminals.

This really is turning into a disfunctional community when this kind of thing can occur. And it’ll happen again, believe you me. Where are the foot patrols????
Now that we know the Police are incapable to deal with the situations, let John Public take their stand. Businesses need to wake up and let the perpetrators have a long rest, by then the Police will wake up or come out from hybernating.

Outside of office hours? What is that? There should be no "outside" of office hours. Criminals work 24/7 and so should the police department. I am in shock! I have never in my life heard of something so stupid. Only in Cayman?? These businesses need to lock all their money up. keep a small till in the register to make change but deposit the rest in a steel safe. That is how they do it in the states and the robbers can’t get to it. The only thing they can get to is what is in the till. While we have plenty of crime here in the states, we do not have the same store being robbed over and over again. Pretty soon people will not want to work, Caymanian or expat. Such a shame. Start kicking their azzes! Show the criminals that they are weak and the people of cayman are strong. The public needs to be involved in solving this problem. These thugs more than likely are getting people under their control promising them money, drugs, clothing, etc. Before you know it, they are turning your girls out on the street, robbing cars, businesses, killing innocent people, selling drugs, convincing the police they are "good" people, etc. I have to say that there is more crime in Cayman that there is in a state in the USA. Thats because Cayman population is low. We have millions of people here, Cayman has how many 50,000? Such a shame this is happening. Please stop it! Keep that beautiful island beautiful and without crime.

And so does the police department – its just the Press Liaison Officer doesn’t – it was out of office hours for the person designated to deal with press enquiries.

Criminality is out of control in Grand Cayman and the Government of the day……….. including the RCIPS, are all in a reactive mode as opposed to being in a well planned and executed PRO-ACTIVE APPROACH.
Commissioner Baines and his deputy’s don’t have a clue about fighting criminality here in the Caribbean. They are just here trying to learn the ropes and at the same time enjoying their fat paid salary/benefits, the sea, sand, sun, fun and scuba diving.
If you want a no non-sense man to fight crime and be a leader as Commissioner should really be, who will put caribbean criminals behind bars and put them in their appropriate place, then bring someone on-board like Senior Supt Renato Adams. (Retired JCF)
Criminals in Cayman will then run as they do in Jamaica, when they catch sight of him or hear that he’s on his way to deal with them.

With the amount of illegal firearms in circulation in the Cayman Islands today, we’re not far off from being in an all out street war. We just can’t sit idly by and let that happen………. "twiddling out thumbs and sticking our noses into the air saying "it’s not my child involved, not my business and not my problem" At this rate, in two years time it will all be over and with no return to any sense of normality.
Its this same " we’re not there yet" excuse making, complacency why Cayman is where it is now.
