Cops record 50 accidents in 3rd week of clamp down
(CNS): As the police continue the seasonal road traffic clamp down on bad driving, fifty accidents were reported during the course of the most recent week of Operation Rotate. Along with 38 speeding tickets, traffic cops issued 47 other tickets and arrested seven people on various offences, including drug possession and driving whilst disqualified and without insurance. Keeping up the pressure on people who drink and still get behind the wheel, 41 breath tests were conducted with 5 DUI arrests being made. Police set up 33 road blocks and undertook five stop and searches during another busy week.
The cops began Operation Rotate on 22 November to address both poor standards of driving and the danger of people drinking and driving. There have been more than 130 road accidents reported since the holiday crackdown started.

When are the police going to stop those mini busses from using the left lane (heading West) on Spotts straight as a passenger pickup spot. Twice now I have had to slam on brakes while driving to town in that left lane, and when I blew my horn the a-hole glared at me like I was somehow wrong. He was stopped at a stand still in the left lane picking up a passenger!!!!!
I believe there is no motivation left within the police force, so they are not going to take on extra work by being pro-active and actually following the ones driving like maniacs or breaking the law or responding to reports made on dangerous driving.
The Police seem to operate on the basis that once a pre-announced and enthusiastic ‘crackdown’ on some particular driving offence is over, then it’s okay to ‘carry on as usual’. I see trucks without registration plates and no brake-lights, cars with black windows and electric-blue headlights. I see police and public alike driving without seat-belts, but that’s all okay today, because this week it’s all about DUI and next week it will be all about something else. I see these law-breakers every day, so why don’t the Police do something about it? Frankly, I feel threatened by SUV’s and cars with jet black windows. There should be no tolerance of this in light of how our criminals are destroying what others have built up over generations, and taking us all down with them.
I reported a dangerous driver to central police station the other night. It was a large cement truck making deliveries from the dock at 10:30pm. The driver was doing in excess of 40 mph down Eastern Ave. and 35 mph down Bodden rd. After the police officer took the details over the phone they proceeded to ask me in a sarcastic way "what do you want me to do about it" I was in shock with that response. I thought they would atleast contact the company making these cement deliveries and have the driver warned.
I mean if you can’t report these incidents to the police what’s the point in having them.
I reported a dangerous driver on Sunday (going 50+ on WB Road, tailgating and overtaking multiple cars using the turn lane) and they took the license plate, car make and model, time, location and other details and said they would pass it on to an officer. I’ve done this quite a few times and I honestly wonder what happens? Dothey look up the drivers using the DVDL registration and caution them? Should we even bother to report this?
Oh, this is my true story of making a dangerous driver report. Happened about 2 years ago.
I was driving into town on the Harquail Bypass and a car overtook me very near to where that accident claimed the life of that lady about a year before. So I followed the car whilst dialing 911 and the car pulled into the "swamp gas station" so I gave the operator the plate number, make and model.
A girl stepped out clearly drunk or something and staggered into the station and the operator says to me "the plate number does not match the vehicle, are you sure it is the number" I am like "woman I am parked BEHIND the car right now send and officer to check it out, I have 20/20 vision, obviously if the plate does not match the vehicle that is even more reason to send an officer!!!
I usually don’t even bother to make these reports, but this particular day I had my 2 daughters in the car with me and when this a-hole overtook another car was heading the opposite direction, images of this a-hole hitting that vehicle and spinning into me and sending me off the road took me over and I decided to make an attempt, needless to say no police showed up and this woman left the gas station and went on her merry way. Next time I am not calling 911, I will follow, get out of my car and I am sure the police will show up when I critically beat the b!t(h!!!!
Good Job! Now go and fight bigger crimes and stop bragging about speeding tickets and accidents.
Again, I suggest the plice frequent the parking lots at various groceries stores, hardware stores (in other words high volume businesses) and wait for the driver of the vehicle that has extremely dark tinted windows to come back to his/her car and issue a spot fine with the request to lighen the tinting to the legal levels. Lots of money can be selected with not a lot of effort really, and hopefully the message will spread soon that it is not worth it to tint you windows beyond the legal levels.
i had cause to walk along smith road last week to pick up my car from the garage. i started to count the number of drivers NOT wearing seat belts.
why dont they start dishing out on the spot fines for this offence. clearly noone cares about it.
also texting. WOW do we have to wait for a death before it is totally outlawed?
Hopefully they are also policing themselves and their colleagues as the police themselves are sometimes the worst offenders
