Gun seized at 7MB club
(CNS): Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested and a firearm recovered in connection with an incident at a luxury Seven Mile Beach condo complex today. A spokes person for the RCIPS said that at around 10.50 am this morning (Tuesday 1 February) officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the Caribbean Club on the West Bay Road. A spokesperson said, “We can confirm that two men aged 24 and 25 years have been arrested in connection with the incident and that a firearm was recovered at the location.” No other details have been given but witnesses say the club was taped off and a number of armed officers were seen in the area, which is in the heart of the tourist district.
Police said that enquiries in connection with the incident are ongoing.

As someone said earlier, the concern about releasing information is to ensure that the defendants cannot use press coverage to say that a fair trial was impossible.
If the press report as fact something which is then a crucial issue at trial, it would be easy for the defence to say that the jury has been improperly influenced before they begin.
It is more important that the prosecutors get their best chance of a conviction than that we the public have our curiosity indulged.
Gun found at 7MB club. Very catchy headline. After reading the article a little on discovers that it’s in fact Caribbean Club condos. Police overwelmed by robbers ie, armed robberies and lots of crime in general. Stabbing not reported until 3 days later. If the Police expect to have the cooperation from Joe public, they’re going to have to do better then that. If a crime occurs (any of significance) release as much info a.s.a.p. to all medias. It seems that the PR at the police stations is closed on weekend. Robbers and perpretators do not stop or take a break they work 24-7. You want to catch thieves, murderers, stabbers, drug dealers and expect help, stop keeping the info to yourselves and share it so we might be able to help while it’s fresh in everyone’s mind. Then we might be able to help.Any info you release might be a crime solver. And as I said before start paying your overworked (at times) officers OVERTIME, getting properly paid is a great motivator and will increase morale; not accumulated days off that leaves you short staff at times. Mr. Comissioner it’s time you get with the program. No disrespect sir, just the facts.
Just out of interest, where do you think the money is going to come from to pay OVERTIME? The government’s in enough mess as it is financially, and you want the police to tecruit an additional PR agent and start paying everyone overtime? Are you volunteering to throw a couple of extra thousand dollars into the fund?
Start by cutting off the expensive trips with lots of entourage. Money confiscated from failed drug deals deals.Percentge of monies recovered from robberies. issue more tickets to the dangerous stupid drivers.Selling of assets confiscated from the reaping of crime. Boats, cars, houses. Paying them overtime is money well invested. try and do their job with what they earn or are we better off short staff at tjimes? Think outside the box for a change.
At least the RCIPS deserve credit for apprehending the perpetrators. Details will emerge as they are able to release them.

Keep catching them and locking them up boys, and when they get out catch them and lock them up again.
The bad guys will have to learn is you cannot hear, you will have to feel.
It is time for the over paid Judiciary to do its job. Stop giving bail to criminals. Try cases today and not years after. Who will remember in detail what happened years ago. It is costing tax payers every time a case is put off. Deal with criminality, give them the maximum and if they are not home-grown criminals, deport them after serving their sentences.
Where is the deterrent for crime? If there was, there would not be so many offenders.

RCIPS, for the love of God, give us more information so that we, the citizenry, can help make a difference to curb crime on these tiny little islands…

One of the main problems with prosecuting cases is that the ‘facts’ as reported in the press are often so well known to the pople making up a jury that it is impossible for teh defendents to get a ‘fair’ trial. This means the defence team have an easy appeal option, and regardless of guilt a defendent will get off if the trial wasn’t ‘fair’.
I suspect that it is for this reason the police relase few details, and this will be on teh advise of the legal profession i.e. the prosecutors – NOT someone at RCIPS deciding they don’t like the local press.
Its going to be interesting to see if the police admit what really happened

Please please please – police and judiciary, do your jobs right and if they are guilty get them in jail for the minimum of 10 years.
"Catch and release" only makes them bolder and more dangerous.
Oh My Goodness. Were these guys residents or visitors? I cannot believe what’s going on in my little island. I hope the police deal with them properly, and get them off our streets, this is becoming unsatisfactory and will drive our tourism further down the tube. I call on the people in authority to do something about this and all gun crimes asap.

I don’t really see what the point of this comment was – so what if it was a low rent or high rent building – the fact is there were 2 people arrested with guns. At the end of the day, they were probably trying to rob Luca – the restaurant on the ground floor or one of the apartment buildings.
I doubt very much that they were visitors – so of course they are people from here. Time to admit that the crime comes from right here on our island and stop blaming others.
