Burst water pipe cuts supply to Bodden Town

| 02/03/2011

(CNS): The Water Authority Cayman is dealing with a broken water main in the Pease Bay area of Bodden Town and is asking morning rush hour motorists to take care as they drive through the area and to obey all of the traffic signs as crews attend to the problem. The authority has said that customers are likely to be inconvenienced for sometime as the repairs are expected to take four to five hours and the water supply will be interrupted for customers located between Kipling Street to Midland Acres during that time. “The Water Authority said it appreciated the patience and understanding over the inconvenience caused to customers and drivers as the restoration work gets underway," officials stated.

“Don’t stop the carnival!” Grin and bear it!!

This has happened more than once along that road from the Bodden Town Police Station to Midland Acres. The pipes are always bursting where they have to dig up the road and slow down traffic. I dread the day we get a hurricane.

Rumour has it the plastic mains pipes installed out BT way were stored in Cayman for months exposed to the sun, against the manufacturers advice. Result: brittle plastic.

I was awake at 5:00am and the water was off at that time, so at what time was the leak discovered and the water shut? Very annoying to wake up and not be able to get ready for work.

I agree with "Why does it seem to be"….. this is ridiculous and I for one am sick and tired of waking up and not having any water to shower, make coffee, brush my teeth to name a few things. XXXXX

Guess CWA doesn’t have anyone who knows how to properly "lay the pipe"….

For the little neighborhood hoodlum (in the Prospect Bonnieview area) that thinks it is funny to twice turn on my outside tap and let the water flood my front yard, you WILL be caught!  The pipe is too short to put a locking cap on it and I do not want to seal the tap.  Instead we will be putting up a CCTV camera (see, they DO have uses!) and when we catch you…..you are your parents will pay our water bill!  This young man is between the ages of 8 and 14 according to our neighbors.

Parents, if you have any young boys in your house, don’t give them any ideas please, but instead please have a talk with them tonight about respecting people’s property.  Some day they may need their neighbors and being good citizens is what we should strive to be.

This is happening repeatedly on this stretch. It’s not good enough.

Why does it seem to be impossible for the Water Authority to install a bit of pipe that does not leak. Is this constant re-doing of the pipe around Bodden Town a make work project? The number of times this section of pipe has failed is beyond ridiculous. Who is responsible for this nonsense? Would it be too much to ask that someone is held accountable and disciplined accordingly?
