Spectacular and rare phenomenon caught on film
(CNS): An amateur photographer caught a rare and beautiful sight on Tuesday afternoon. This near perfect sun ring was captured at around 3pm at a condo complex on Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman. The halo or rainbow around the sun is, according to experts, caused by the scattering of sunlight by tiny ice crystals very high in the sky. High clouds of ice crystals high in the sky are called cirrus clouds or cirrostratus if they form a layer which form in front of warm fronts that bring rain. The fabulous photograph is by Carlos Ossorio

Thank you for sharing this wonderful event. We should "look up" more often, we miss so much by not paying attention.

This is an amazing shot! Not easy to capture the detailed ring without being washed out by the strong Sun light, while keeping the sky blue.
I have seen this before but they are rare indeed.
Way to go, thanks for sharing, I love it.!! Nature rocks!
Looks like lens flare to me, meaning the effect that happens when you point your camera at the sun and the light comes directly into the lens (as opposed to bouncing off your subject). Did anyone see this who was not looking through a camera?
Ring around the sun bad weather done! Ring around the moon bad weather soon!
Thought it was circle round the sun dry weather done, circle round the moon dry waether soon.
I saw this beautiful sight and e-mailed my son at work to let him know. These appear in Cayman quite often – just keep looking 'up' once in a while. They also appear around the moon. The 'old people' said "Circle round the Moon – suddle wind soon, Circle round the Sun suddle wind done; which when interpreted means 'Southern wind soon/Southern wind done. Try to keep check and see if it will now be a little cooler as 'South wind is very hot!
I was once told by a Caymanian that when such a ring appears around the moon, the wind will come round through the south within a day or two. Over the next 15 years, whenever I observed such a ring, the wind always behaved as predicted. I presume the same advice would apply to a ring around the sun. Let's see…
I'm waiting for someone to photograph the green flash, either at sunset or sunrise. On Seven Mile Beach, and using powerful binoculars, I once caught the indigo and violet colours that come just after the green. Much the brightest flash I've ever witnessed here was at sunrise.
Around 1984, in the evening, the Cayman sky turned a glowing pink. We all rubbed our eyes and wondered what was going on. The next day the newspaper explained that is was a very rare occurrence of the Aurora Borealis.
nothing can beat the beauty of nature
cool photo
May 21st – The end is coming. Are you ready?

That is so amazing! And very cool too!
Thanks for sharing Carlos!
