Jamaican air strikes disrupt local flights
(CNS): Update – Cayman Airways says that flights disrupted by industrial action by Air Traffic Controllers in Jamaica were rescheduled and have now all left the Cayman Islands and service has resumed. Despite being ordered back to work by the courts, workers remained off the job Monday. Several flights were impacted but Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) managers were said to be staffing the towers in the afternoon. The action by the air traffic staff is believed to be as a result of pay. The strike led to delays and cancelations of flights into Kingston and the tourist resort town of Montego Bay, as well as a backlog of hundreds of passengers trying to get in and out of the island's two major international airports.
The adjusted flight numbers and times for CAL as a result of the industrial action are as follows:
KX 2620 departs Grand Cayman at 1.55pm and arrives in Montego Bay at 2.45pm.
KX 2621 departs Montego Bay at 3.35pm and arrives in Grand Cayman at 4.25pm.
KX 2614 departs Grand Cayman at 3.00pm and arrives in Kingston at 2.45pm.
KX 2615 departs Kingston at 5.00pm and arrives in Grand Cayman at 6.00pm.

Realistically it is foolish and quite unfair to compare anything in Jamaica with anything in the Cayman Islands. For a start, Jamaica was a vibrant commercial culture (Britain's Caribbean jewel – albeit on the blood of slaves) even before the Cayman Islands were inhabited. Commercially, Jamaica is centuries ahead of us and it is currently a country of reasonable international trading stature. Politically, it is 50 years ahead of us and counting; educationally it is perhaps twice that; sports, say no more. Trinidad is similar. So, for Jamaica and Trinidad to not have better airports than us would be a shame on them and would say volumes about their development, not ours.
Err.. up to a couple of years ago we DID have a better airport than Kingston's Norman Manley.
On a point of history, Cayman has been inhabited since the 1660s. Jamaica only became a British after 1655 at which point it was not Britain's Caribbean jewel.
You might have added that Jamaica's population of some 3m is many, many times that of ours.
Jamaica is an international trading entity because it has abundant natural resources which we do not.
There are comparisons which can and have been be made between Jamaica and Cayman which are unfavourable for Jamaica.
Blame it on the recent and past government! You have to see the airport in Trinidad & Tobago and the other eastern caribbean islands way better than Owen Roberts WAY BETTER!!

Hating Jamaica and Jamaicans for your failures and shorfall will not solve your problem. If Jamaica and Jamaicans didnt exist you would still be a failure and have shortfalls – because you are not happy with your own existence.

Jamaica is a beautiful place its just like the rest of the world it has its Good Bad & Ugly. May be u should drop a Hint to Mr. Bush he would love to spend more money that we dont have and up grade Owen Roberts International to look like Michael Manleys 🙂
Airport is nicer looking because they get waymore tourist passing thru we not there yet! we need to stop watching what our neighbor has and do with what we already got.

Because ours is 27 years old and Kingston's Norman Manley was completely re-done a couple of years ago. Ours is in the process of being re-developed.
