Exam fees must be paid before students get results

| 19/08/2011

(CNS): Parents are being told that they must cough up with the cash for their kids’ exam fees before they get the results. Education department officials said that the external examination results are now published and ready for all students who recently completed Years 11 and 12 at John Gray and Clifton Hunter high schools and the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre. Students can’t physically collect their results however until Monday, 29 August at the Clifton Hunter High School Hall between 8:30 am and 3:00pm. And student won’t be given that all important news until the fees for the examinations have been paid in full.

However, officials also stated that students from government high schools may access Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) results online at www.cxc.org once fees are paid in full.  If they select the link http://ors.cxc.org/studentportal on the homepage and students should then enter their centre and candidate numbers along with their surname and date of birth. Exam payments should be made at the relevant schools where information about outstanding fees can also be obtained.

Once results are released and reviewed, Year 11 students may then select their Year 12 options. Officials said that on 31 August students will be informed of grouping and there will an orientation session for Advanced Placement/dual entry students. BTEC orientation will be on 1, 2 & 5 September and Advanced Placement classes also begin on 1 September while vocational and technical classes start on 6 September

It would be good to find out if these children are among those Cicil Servants parents who had their wage cut. If so then the Government needs to give them thweir monies back.

I agree parents need to put their priorities first, pay the Exam fees! Don't expect Government to pay these for you too.

All this negativitiy is why some of the school leavers are say…"me I don't care, if I get a job'!

Parents step up and do your jobs these children didn't ask to come here, you choose to have them.

Boy Oh Boy!!! Well i am speaking on behalf of a single parent I know who is honestly in need of help.

Have a brilliant Young man who is facing problems as he could not pay for the school to release his exams although he had already paid for them. If he doesn't get his results he won't be able to register for college, @ UCCI He want to become a Lawyer. HE IS VERY DEPRESS, No help! Mom works in the Hotel industry for $3.50 per hour.

She has Rent, Water, light, ect, ect to take care of and is literally stuggling. Is there a Company Or Private Individual who would like to assist? He would make one of the best lawyers on this island.

What is Mac doing about these poor people, and about these minimum wages for people working such long hours for only $125.00 to $150.00 per wk? Also, other matters like school lunches for kids + some dont have uniform for the new school Year.

Instead of funding churches such a huge amount of money, why not give back to the people who actually need it!

Why students examination fees were not paid before the exams? In previous years students examination fees had to be paid in to the office by a specific date or they would not be allowed to sit any examination, because there would only be examination papers sent to the school for paid entries.  How lucky they the students are these days!   I guess the parents are expecting tax payers to finance that too.  Where are the parents????

Charge children to further their education BEFORE college or university… genius!! Now that's nation building Mac!

The obviously need to apply to the nation building fund.

Apply using your church's letterhead, it helps.

With these days and times parents are struggling to make ends meet.  This is where government money should have been spent.  NOT CHURCHES!!!!!

Parents are struggling, and I am one of them but I have too much pride to go running to Mac or any government official to beg when I am responsible for my child's education.  Iam far more resourceful than that.  Try selling your BB and buy a cheap mobile phone, try doing your own hair and nails at home instead of living in the beauty salon every week.  Try getting a part time job or online job to make extra money.  Stop buying alocohol and cigarettes for one month.  I chose to have my child so if I hav to sacrifice to pay her exam fees so be it.  Everyone is feeling the pinch but clearly its not so bad since every one I know who is complaining is doing it from behind their $300 shades, types on their BB with fresh acrylics and weave.  Priorities.

Well said…  Even though I can afford a BB I carry a flip Samsung.  I quit smoking some time ago and I don't recall last time that I had a drink.  My shades are missing, but they're the $18 variety that can easily be replaced – and they still look good.  Like you said, priorities.
