Cops hunt suspect after seizing semi-automatic gun
(CNS): Police are hunting for a 26-year-old man after recovering a semi-automatic weapon on Friday afternoon (9 September). Officers responded to a report made by a member of the public at about 2.30pm that there was an armed man in Bodden Road, George Town. When police received the call, armed officers from the uniform support group immediately went to the location. As they arrived the suspected discarded the weapon and fled the scene. A semi-automatic pistol along with ammunition was recovered from the area and police are now looking for the suspect. In the wake of the incident Superintendent Kurt Walton said recovering the gun was down to the assistance of the community.
“This is a great example where concerned members of the public who saw a man acting suspiciously and believed he had a firearm on him took positive action to report it to us. This is the second unlicensed firearm the RCIPS has recovered in the last two days, which again demonstrates our commitment to tackle gun crime in the Cayman Islands," he added.
As the incident was taking place less, than a mile away in the Legislative Assembly the country’s elected officials were debating the violent crime wave washing over Grand Cayman. The MLAs were discussion a motion brought by the premier calling on the police commissioner and the governor to establish a crack force crime unit to clean up Cayman’s streets.

Customs and Police need to check every any boat coming from Honduras. Fishing boats anything. I knew a guy in La Ceiba who ran aid up and down the Moskito Coast and Cattle to Swan Island in LCM's . Someone asked him once to run some cargo to Cayman. He asked what the cargo was and they guy didn't seem to straight forward. He told the guy he didn't run drugs. They guy said it wasn't drugs but guns. This was 6 years ago. I said to myseld why in the hell would someone want to run a boat load of guns to Cayman. It was the silliest thing I heard. Now I know. Cheap firearms are available everywhere in Honduras. Boat crews and Captains are looking to make money. Who is watching these boats?
It is great that someone called and the Police arrived in time to see the suspect, but how did he get away with them knowing where he was located by the phone call to them? Planning again goes olut the window. The fact that people are walking around with firearms in plain site is a testimoney to how the moral fiber of the community has been raped and. This part of the problem is from the social fall-out that we have here. The Police are poor at thier job, but they are not putting guns in these criminals hands. The poor able Caymanian is the one committing these crimes along with a few of our brothers from abroad. Time to call a spade a spade.
THere is little fear of serving any time or being caught ofr that matter for committing a violent crime here. Do not blame the courts when the Police cannot function as they are suppose to. Do not blame the public for not wanting to put a target on thier head when they do not report a crime. All of this talk about Seals, Royal Marines is crazy. Amred road blocks again? for what. You have a few poarch monkies holding a country hostage with 400 equiped Policemen. Get real.
For all those persons saying that the police do not act, they were given information and they got the weapon, I think we will soon hear that the have the 26 year old man in custody.
HUGE thanks to that citizen who gave the information, this is the way the country can wrestle peace from the thugs.

WTF? There is a suspected gunman running around, they know who it is, but not where he is, and ask for our help but do not give us any detail. This is beyond a joke. Whose side are they on?

Bodden Road, George Town (a.k.a. Banana Walk). Good job residents, this area needs a resident police station although it is not so much the hot spot as it was a few years ago. I know that the good citizens of this area would welcome a 24/7 police presence.

Good result so far as public support and the police getting to the scene of the crime and recovering the gun. But its a shame our police seen either unfit or unable to give an effective chase and catch those that flee from the scene, if the use of the new "faster" cars could not be utlized. Perhaps physical fitness should be enforced more in the force for those on patrols and in specialist teams who deal with this type of incident?

Bodden Road is the road in Geore Town that connects Eastern Ave, starting at Kirks Home Center, to North Church Street.
It is neither in Boddden Town, nor is it 'Dog City' which is officially named as Watlers Road.
Cayman's police should, by now, have some idea of who are robbing, using firearms and where they live.
The last 5 or 6 robberies have taken place all within a two mile radius of Shedden Road, Eastern Ave and the West Bay road; if the police care to check, they will find many of these robbers and their guns right there is those surrounding neighborhoods.
