Cops close bypass during manhunt

| 17/09/2011

(CNS): Officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service closed the Esterley Tibbetts bypass on Saturday afternoon as the hunted for a suspect wanted in connection with firearms offences. Police from the uniform support group were involved in the hunt after pulling over the suspect’s car behind the Ritz Carlton hotel. When the car stopped the driver reportedly escaped from the police and ran into the bushes close to the Island Heritage roundabout where the manhunt ensued. The man is said to be on an existing watch listed and not connected to this week s murders.

“We are currently searching for a suspect that was wanted by the police now for some time,” a police spokesperson but did not say if police believe the man is armed. Despite an air and ground search the man was not recovered police stated.

Hello everyone if this was the US or Canada this guy would have stopped within one yard of exiting hs vehicle upon hearing one word…FREEZE.  Why? Because the police have guns thats why.  Police here are a joke to the criminals, the police fear the criminals because they have guns and the regular police force do not.  You think a criminal runs from a gun? No they run from bobby sticks.

Interrupt all cayman radio stations in a case like this to inform the public who you are looking for and were. THEN you get a REAL manhunt.

And of course there will always be a 5000 finders fee.

he is probably wanted or being stopped for protection against retaliation? and if it was raining at that time – dogs are of no use. That logwood is pretty thick too if he took that route.Justsayin

    • Shepherd says:

How do you know if it was logwood he went through?  and he can go through, well so can a dog!  Rain doesn't matter to dogs.  So many experts……

oh, and most likely the car wasn't registered in his name, probably one of the MANY illegal vehicles on the Island.

If he ran into the bush, they couldn't have smoked him out????

And where were the K9s? Helloo!!!!

All I can say, let the dogs loose, and hunt the low-life down. We're coming for you.

  9. Mrs. J. Ebanks-Bodden says:

They should look in the water. Maybe he jumped into the canal. Some people are good swimmer and can get away that way.

I really hope the RCIPS can catch this man so I can get a good night sleep tonight.

    Oh please catch him.

If they do not or are unable to catch a man in the bushes with 400 men or so a chopper and a bunch of dogs then the RCIP has proven they are simply not up to task. There is no need for insults or this and that would be done in such and such a place . Just have Baines throw in the towel or wave a white flag taped to his pinky and allow the charges to get a man or woman that can do the job. Enough is enough. If he wants more funding he needs to PROVE he has a real plan with real results. People are not caught. This is clear.

Their helicopter hovered over my house in a thundering, driving rain and lightning storm for nearly 45 minutes trying to catch the guy. Very brave. Open letter to the judges whom these jokers come before when they are finally arrested – give them the maximum. Lock them up throw away the key and do justice to the risk of life taken in order to apprehend them and bring them to justice.

Now then…they [ RCIP-S] have his car and presumably it is licensed to the individual 'suspect'.

The clock is ticking on how long it takes to aprehend the criminal in his own element.

Now this is what we want to hear, that the police isspearing no punches.  Yess!! we want to hear the police getting agressive with these little punks, wanting to bring terror to this country.  Stop every darn car that has more than one man in it, and looks suspicious,  stand them outside and search them,  car and all.  Make people get used to road blocks every night, and beside that I want to know and hear that the police are doing it the way that it is done on cops.  PULL UP BEHIND THEM AND THEN USE THE SPEAKER HORN AND TELL ALL OCCUPANTS TO COME OUT WITH HANDS IN THE AIR. KEEP SPOTLIGHT ON THEM, Some OFFICERS  search   the car ,while other officer watch the occupants. watch them.  Take care of yourselves officers, do not trust anyone out there.

Thank you CNS for working so hard and keeping the public up date with news during the Weekend.

Dear RCIPS.  If the man ran from his car, then one might suspect that you have his car.  Does it have a license plate?  You should contact the DVDL and work out who the car belongs to.  That may lead you to the man or some friends of the man and may provide some leads to help you catch him.  I know this is complicated, but I hope you can at least try this approach.

Gold star for stating the bleedin' obvious.

Hey Sheerluck.  If I thought the RCIPS could figure it out on their own, I wouldn't have wasted the time typing.

You mean they actually were within several feet of him and he got away.? Oh the incompetence never ends.

  16. Anonymous says:

Well done and thank you RCIP…let them know you know and, Mr. Baines, don't be ashamed to harrass harrass harrass….

Crooks don't like being made to feel uncomfortable as they go about their business.

  17. Beachboi says:

McKeeva's idea of dealing with crime is to throw more money at the RCIPS.  That is his sollution to everything.  He is so stupid that he thinks that his throwing the peoples money at problems will make them go away. Maybe that is how he makes his problems go away!  I suppose that I could make my problems go away if I had his kind of cash!!!   He has thrown 5 million dollars at the police recently and expects that they should be able to make crime go away.  Crime will not subside until the criminals have cause to fear the police.  Our police officers, and no fault to them, cannot effectively fight crime with new cars!!!  They need weapons!!!  Mac might belive that we are portraying the image of the "perfect island paradise" by not having our officers armed, but just wait until the first tourist is murdered and then we are all screwed.  That is except Mac who has millions in his back pocket.  He lives behind his wall in WB and watches the detriment of his own people that voted him in and he could care less.  I hope they see that!!!!!!!  He is an uneducated and corrupt politician and his attitude is "unna stop tryin tah lie un me"!  He has the education and temperment of a 4 year old and shows it at every opportunity.  It is evident in every news paper and blog that he throws the idea of democracy in the face of the world, and I as a 100% Caymanian, not that it matters what my nationality is, and claims completet and utter dictatorship over the Cayman Islands.  He recently threw one of his many tantrums and threw a motion literally in the garbage.  At that time the speaker should have had him arrested.  Who is the speaker again???  Who is the governor agan???  Icant even remember his name.  Seems like the Queen gives us the rejects!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that the police need to start providing information on these individuals such as names, pictures, and the nature of the crime in order to obtain assistance from the public.  For all we know, the guy could have been a person who was hitching a ride this afternoon to go to George Town.

  19. Scared Girl says:

Hope the helicoper was out too! In certain countries if a wanted person fleas….the police shoots!! and its justified. Stop playing cat and mouse with these guys already! Why doesn't Cayman have a reverse 911 system to broadcast on these matters…everyone and their pet has a cell phone? Maybe he went right by us and we had no clue, maybe if these criminals names and photos were posted we could assist!! Stop playing games with the criminals. At least his name should have been broadcasted for everyone to be on the look out for him…everyone knows everyone here almost. Baines and Jones what's the deal? You're trying to sink Cayman with this type of pre-school policing? Makes me wonder. Behind the Ritz, least expected place is where you usually find turd!

  20. Anonymous says:

Why the heck they don't give the name and type of clothing of this suspect. I am amazed with the blind chase the police put you on and this again proves incompetance on their part.
