Two injured in single vehicle crash in North Side

| 26/09/2011

(CNS): A major smash involving a single vehicle closed the North Side road in both directions on Sunday in the heart of the district. The collision which involved a BMW occurred at around 7:30pm when the car reportedly smashed into railings close to the North Side cemetery. Both men inside the car, which was flipped onto its roof a considerable distance from where the car had collided, were taken to the George Town hospital. Although police have not yet confirmed the details of the smash or the condition of the driver and his passenger it is understood the men do not have life threatening injuries. In responce to 11:35 maybe you needed to be there to understand the full extent of this accident. Not only was there car on the opposite side of the road in the bush but also there were car parts & pieces all about the road as well as many graves and tombstones destroyed and strewn about the place as well.  It is people like you that are so ignorant to what actually goes on and quick to commment just because, that causes many of us to look bad, even if it is not your intention. I'm sure if it was your family or your friends, your comment would be very different from what it is now.

Yes I am ignorant for complaining about being forced to waste three hours of my life, and yes there were so many car parts and pieces all over the road that it took the police three hours to move them. Are you happy now genius?

This was a very bad accident no ifs , ands or buts, the ironic part is that  45 mins prior to the accident that spot would have had at least 100 people in that area as there was a funeral there. Its only by Gods grace that no one got hurt, some one were looking out for them.

The damage and destruction that have been caused to the fencing will have to be rebuilt after anly a few years ago that the women of north side replaced the old one. I hope that his insurance will pay for the damages that were caused as it is in  shambles now. The young men should be made to come back out and clean up the mess thats strewn all over the grounds.Let them accept their responsibilitys.

I'm going to have to go ahead and blame this on the PPM.

No one was killed or even seriously hurt in this "major crash" yet the police had traffic lined up on both sides of the scene for THREE HOURS. In the beginning, one officer was good enough to walk down the road apologising to motorists and explaining that the holdup would probably last for "ten or fifteen minutes"! as can be seen in the picture, the single vehicle came to a stop completely off the road. Although there was some debris in the road, there is no reason on earth why a single lane could not have been be allowed for traffic flow and the officers could have continued their 'investigations'until Christmas if they wanted to. This is the reason why so very many serious crimes are going unsolved in Cayman. The police are obviously happy about wasting their time and couldn't possibly care less about forcing the public to waste theirs.

Just from the picture it cerrtainly looks like major damage. I'm glad that everyone escaped without life threatening injuries.

But just suppose this was a fatal accident and the police had opened one lane allowing traffic to drive through right away.  How quick would we be to blame the police if critical evidence to the accident investigation was damaged or destroyed by cars driving through the area?

This was an accident at night in a realtively poorly lit area of the island.  There a a very few persons with the specialized training in accident reconstruction and i would like to give them every opportunity to fully assess the scene before opening up part of it to traffic.

It's a catch 22 for the first officers on scene. Unfortunately there are not always good alternatives in cases like that since there is not an alternate route for vehicles to take.

I am glad these two young men made out OK, but – one has to wonder if the younger generation has any common sense whatsoever?! Speed kills!!!!!! How many must die before you realise that YES it can happen to you no matter how good of a driver you THINK you are. What if people were standing along the roadside there? What if people were crossing the road to go to the nearby church? What then? We'd be mourning the lives innocent people for your single act of stupidity. I also understand that the driver has been in another "accident" that left him hospitalised…smh. God's trying to warn you son. Try so take heed, and stop doing all this speed.

Seriously man. Stop this madness. There are young people all over the world dying of causes beyond their control – cancer and other illnesses, starvation and malnutrition, natural disasters, child abuse, and the list goes on and on. Knowing all of this – our young people chose to pull triggers on each other and drive like complete maniacs, and in doing so they chose to endanger their own lives and everyone else's in the process.

Wake up young people. Wake up.

How can you be sure these were young people?  Us old fots speed and do other stupid things, too!

Because I know who the driver is and the passenger too. They are in their early 20's. Sounds pretty young to me.

And yes, I do know that there are some oldies that shouldn't be on the road at all. LoL!
