Immigration boards must go says discussion panel
(CNS Business): There was a general consensus across the political and business spectrum at last week’s Generation Now debate that it was time for the immigration boards to go. Panellists at the debate said that the method of reviewing immigration matters by a volunteer, part-time board was outdated and needed to be changed. Following comments he made to CNS and in the Legislative Assembly recently about the need to abolish the volunteer board system and implement an open and transparent administrative way of granting permits and residency the opposition leader said that the time had come to move away from grants being made by boards. World pageant title goes to Miss Venezuala
(CNS): A woman who spent five years living in a nunnery and once dreamed of becoming a nun has been crowned Miss World 2011. Miss Venezuela, Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares, beat contestants from 113 countries to the title after impressing the judges in the categories of beach beauty, top model, talent, sports, and beauty with a purpose — where the contestants must demonstrate involvement in a charity project. Although Miss Cayman Islands had made it through to the top 25 in talent, she failed to make the main event in the annual international contest on Sunday. With the Miss World pagent coming so close on the heels of the local beauty contest where 23 year old Lindsay Japal from George Town was crowned the winner of Miss Cayman Islands, she had little time to prepare for the world’s biggest international pageant.
Meanwhile, Shakeira Lawson Ebanks, a Cayman Islands girl who is living in Arizona could be heading all the way to the Miss USA pageant with the help of her island friends. Looking to be crowned Miss Arizona, the People’s Choice Award is now open for votes which could help Shakeira take the crown and get one step closer to the dream of a CaymanianMiss USA.
