World pageant title goes to Miss Venezuala

| 08/11/2011

(CNS): A woman who spent five years living in a nunnery and once dreamed of becoming a nun has been crowned Miss World 2011. Miss Venezuela, Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares, beat contestants from 113 countries to the title after impressing the judges in the categories of beach beauty, top model, talent, sports, and beauty with a purpose — where the contestants must demonstrate involvement in a charity project. Although Miss Cayman Islands had made it through to the top 25 in talent, she failed to make the main event in the annual international contest on Sunday.   With the Miss World pagent coming so close on the heels of the local beauty contest where 23 year old Lindsay Japal from George Town was crowned the winner of Miss Cayman Islands, she had little time to prepare for the world’s biggest international pageant.

Meanwhile, Shakeira Lawson Ebanks, a Cayman Islands girl who is living in Arizona could be heading all the way to the Miss USA pageant with the help of her island friends. Looking to be crowned Miss Arizona, the People’s Choice Award is now open for votes which could help Shakeira take the crown and get one step closer to the dream of a Caymanian Miss USA. Go to the Facebook page and click like to vote for Shakeira

"..the dream of a Caymanian Miss USA"??? WTF?!!!! Which Caymanian woman dreams of being Miss USA? Did she try out to be Miss Cayman?

CNS, that's like reporting an American Miss Cayman, or a Jamaican Miss Germany, or an Australian Miss Mexico. Doesn't seem to make sense does it?

Oh well, at least i had a good laugh.

You should perhaps read it again…… if you read it correctly you would  understand it more clearly but I will run this down for you. The article says Shakeira…. is one step closer to the dream of a Caymanian Miss USA….. Breaking it down for you a little more……. This does not say or imply that it is all Caymanian's dreamd to be Miss USA, it simply says it is Shakeira's dream to be a Caymanian Miss USA…… Hope th at helps.

Shakeira is an extrodinary and strong individual, thank God she doesn't pay mind to negative people like you and it will never hold her back just like her Mom who left Cayman many years ago………

I got a good laugh from your comment and thinking how sad and negative jealous people are.  I will pray that negativity leaves your heart :o)

What rubbish is this about Lindsay coming 38th overall?  FYI,  there is no such placement announced by Miss World or Miss Universe.  The only places counted are those announced on the night of the telecast.  Lindsay did very well placing in the talent competition and we should be very proud of her for that but  there is no such overall ranking so someone needs to check their source.  At least Lindsay had three weeks to prepare which is more than Cristin Alexander had.  She left for the competition 5 days after being crowned.

The Venezuelan Government doesn't mess around when it comes to their pageant Queens.  They spend a boatload of money to nip, tuck, plump, suck, lift, and any other plastic surgery, from head to toe in order to make over their Miss Venezuela pageant winner.   Looks like it pays off.

23 year old Lindsay Japal had made it through to the top 25 in talent, she finished 38th overall, above 74 other contestants including Miss Venezuala(Miss World) and the other top 5 contestances … I think We all should be very proud of Ms Japal's perfromance thru out…she did an AMAZING JOB….WELL DONE LINDSAY !!! ….from the CAL CREW !!!

"With the Miss World pagent coming so close on the heels of the local beauty contest where 23 year old Lindsay Japal from George Town was crowned the winner of Miss Cayman Islands, she had little time to prepare for the world’s biggest international pageant."

I have never understood WHY the Cayman Islands Government keeps doing this nonsense: This leaves absolutely no time for the Cayman contestant to even take a few pictures, much less fit/design a national costume or find clothes to wear. Cristin Alexander went to Miss World 1 week after being crowned. Lindsay got the same short end of the stick.

I appreciate that these pagents are political and Cayman is already unlikely to win, but if we are going to spend the people's money for this, don't half-ass it. Do it properly, to the best of your ability — OR NOT AT ALL.

Change the date for Miss Cayman contest, allowing sufficient time for the new Miss Cayman to prepare for the Miss World contest.  That makes sense.  Start thinking out of the BOX.  Can someone do just that?

So that's where my grandmothers curtains went to!

Congratulations, your grandmother obviously had a very good taste for curtains. Still we prefer to see them on this beautiful young lady than in your grandmothers house.

A "Caymanian Miss USA"…smh…firstly she's got to be an AMERICAN to enter Miss Arizona/USA, do you really think she's going to go up there and represent 'Cayman'???

Good luck to her and all the other Miss Arizona contestants.

    • Go Figure! says:

yes she is both of her parents are caymanian, however her mother moved away when she was pregnant with her. stop drinking the haterade!

Now they're using the Church to gain fame and popularity. Sounds like the reverse of the story of the pornstar turned preacher, or the guy who went to Sunday School for 25 years! Reality shows here we come!

Some might call me a 'hater', but I'm not really, I'm more of a realist

Cayman should propose sending people that are inclined to work ahead of time so that they are prepared for such strict pageants. Almost doesn't count and Cayman never does well because the girls do not prepare well in advance. They are competing with some of the world's finest who have degrees, philanthropic interactions, fitness and beauty. Hopefully we can get some good representatives in Cayman that posses such qualities.

    • Anonymous says:

Lindsay has been working hard since day one and represented Cayman very well.  She is no stranger to hard work, education, philanthropy and any thing else it takes to make a great representative for the Cayman Islands.  She did our small country proud-and every one knows Miss World is very political-in fact-Miss World is outdated and she should will have almost a year to prepare for the most important pageant of all-Miss Universe.  Well done Lindsay-all the Caymanians with sense support you and are very proud of you!!!!

    Beautiful lady. All the best!

I congratulate the young lady living in the US that could possibly go the Miss USA pageant.  I wonder how many people that whine and cry about who is Caymanian and who is not Caymanian and who should win the Miss Cayman title will cry about this?  Funny how the world is such a big place isn't it?  Sometimes we should all just get along don't you think?  We should also stop being so mean to every Miss Cayman or Miss Teen Cayman because somebody thinks they aren't Caymanian enough…….

  16. Paper Caymanian says:

An outstanding gown. I congratulate one of my fellow countrywoman for wearing the crown as Miss World.  My grandma who is a Venezualian, always tell me as a little girl that pretty women can be found in the caribbean and Venezuala. Congrats also to Ms. Japal who is also our stunning beautiful  and brilliant queen.

The dress of a winner…..and oh yeah, a crown !

Looks like a beautiful pink dress to me.

    • Jim Beam says:

      ..a pink flamingo costume?

    • Anonymous says:

To answer "what the hell she is wearing" one must consider that the theme for Ms. World is "Beauty with a purpose" which means they are looking for good character and involvement in charities. The local pageant touted the same theme and there were a couple of contestants that had proven track records in their charities but this unfortunately bore no bearing at the competition and is a vital part of being an ambassador.
