Cayman sends back 19 Cuban refugees
(CNS): Government has confirmed that nineteen Cuban migrants were repatriated on Tuesday afternoon (13 December) by the Department of Immigration. The 19 men had arrived on Cayman Brac by boat from Cuba just over two months ago on Friday, 7 October, 2011. Officials from the Immigration Department said the repatriation procedure followed the usual administrative processes that it carries out in such situations. As part of an agreement with the Cuban government that any refugees or migrants that seek assistance when in Cayman waters or come ashore must be returned to the neighbouring island. Cayman continues to make me proud this strong stand against supporting illegal immigration is to be commendable. For all thosewho think that we should give these illegal migrants food water boat gas and allow them to enter another country illegally. Ask yourself one ques. How would we like our neighbors to send all their illegal migrants our way?

Good. I hope the Cuban Government, as part of this agreement, reimburses us for the costs associated with our sheltering their citizens for two months.

Just a hypothetical question:……… If nineteen people showed up in your back yard, would you have taken them in to feed, clothe, and care for?
A "not on my property" old fart would have thrown them all off his beach side property, but a rational person would first inquire why they are on his property, and when he learns that they are in destitute, hungry, without shelter, need medication, and a society has rejected them and their freedoms, that rational man would do the right thing and render assistance. For all you know, the dumb old fart may take a vacation to Miami, get himself into serious trouble, bump up into the same Cuban lot that he threw off his beach, and pay dearly for his karma. Lesson: What goes around comes around!

I would start some sort of business, hire them for poor wages, make them pay their own work permit fees, take money from their crappy paychecks for pension and health and just keep it, and let them feed and clothe themselves with what was left over.
Understand the Geneva convention act on Human rights.If Cayman helps to considered as human trafficking.
These Cubans were NOT intending to come to Cayman.The ocean currents bring them to the sister Islands. The odds are they target was Honduras and once there make there way North across into the USA.
Once they go back to Cuba they are freed and they will try again.Unfortunately these are the poorest of the poor in Cuba looking for the riches and promises of the North. They are lucky to be alive – ever think how many never make it!
This is a sin. I understand we don't have the funds to forever feed and keep the migrants during an economic downturn, but Cayman, we can pull together and at least start a non-for-profit organization for donations from the public and donors who are willing to help overseas. These are people looking for a better life, some running from persecution, many others looking to be freed from a dictator. Cayman should have no dealings with the Cuban government on this matter: when they come to us for freedom, we should be a haven of no return. What if we come under a worse dictatorship than we have now? Who would we want to help us? Who would we want to look out for us, feed us, and take us in? This is a sin on all sides. We should really consider what happens to the migrants when we send them back to Cuba. Some of them may be jailed or even dissappear. Money is not everything. We have to look at ourselves and say what if it was me in their shoes.
What a pity we did not repatriate all those other undesirables and today we would have had a better Cayman.We made most of the elites from England etc leave and now we are only left with the unskilled who is looking $s.

Cayman should be ashamed. These people are risking eveything for a better life (most are very well educated) and Cayman sends them home to at best an uncertain reception and future. This is not a very Christian attitude. I miss these people good luck
