CID seeks info on getaway car

| 24/12/2011

Getaway Vehicle.jpg(CNS): Police investigating the robbery at Magnum’s jewellery store on Thursday are asking the public for information on the movements of the car (pictured left) believed to be the robber’s second getaway vehicle. The three masked men who used axes to smash their way to a collection of expensive jewellery made their escape in RAV4 in Wahoo Close, George Town but are believed to have then used this car after burning out the car they used for the robbery.

The CID is appealing to anyone who may have sighted this vehicle on Thursday, 22 December 2011 to contact Detective Inspector Oremule of the CID on 949-4222 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477 (Tips)

    RCIPS,

Maybe you should employ a few of these criminals that you end up having to let go because you can never win a case in court, hire them to train you guys on common sense, basic criminal movements and even to show who some of the key players are.

I know you won't do it, only cause it might work. I think you should stop asking people to risk their lives to help you solve crimes. Maybe you can insist on our help when you know how to do your jobs.

I appreciate the thumbs downs too but please keep in mind that for every CRIMINAL case that got acquitted in the Cayman Islands in the last year, those witnesses must be scared witless and hiding in their homes.

CNS: Can you find out from the RCIPS what happens to these witnesses after the criminals are let go…witness protection in Little Cayman maybe??

I may sound harsh but the truth is the truth. IF I risked my life to provide them with this info then what is stoping them from letting anyone know? Nothing is and that's the scariest part.

Sorry RCIPs but do your damn job right.

I also agree with the poster @ 7:31, why withhold such an important piece of info? Or maybe that was done in order to protect someone(S)?? Why cover up some aspects and then release it after the fact? LOL, did they actually know about the second getaway vehicle too?

What is the description of the getaway vehicle?  This photo does not give a clear description, just a vague visual. Is it a Chevy, a Ford or what? is this the colour of the vehicle? anf if you have it on CCTV, did you get a partial License Number? Why do you ask or gave us this minimal info, then?  This vehicle should easily be traced by the Police, through registration.

I am not a car person, so I am confused. What is the colour, make and model of the pictured vehicle?

My one and only question to the police is – Why do you wait till after a robbery to ask us if we can remember where we saw this vehicle? If you knew, and I know you did, that the Rav4 was stolen, then post it on your website, maybe the police should setup a bbm group/ live profile group, and send out a mass message, as nearly everyone is on it these days, even young kids. This could have been prevented, especially in the area of Georgetown on a busy cruiseship morning. Now all that this has done is give a bad taste in the mouths of all shippers that we are a crime ridden country. It will be the topic that they will remember the most of their holiday. What else could anyone steal a car for on this island? You can't do anything with it, even to the point of stripping it, unless you have a garage to hide it. If the public were informed of this car stolen, it could have been prevented, but the robber knew better than that.

My comment was typed and sent for review on Christmas morning before the article was updated to state there was a second getaway car. The headline actually read that the vehicle pictured was a Rav 4.

  8. Anonymous says:

What sort of car is this one?  Obviously not a Rav 4

Another one paragraph, total gibberish press release from RCIPS.

Isn't there anyone on staff who can do this job?

CNS, is there a license plate number on the car???

"Police…are asking the public for information on the movements of the car (pictured left)"

Can anyone see the RAV4 in the pic?

Is this a trick or is it that I'm blind cuz I dont see no RAV4 in this pic.  How the heck the police…………..ooooh just forget it (sigh)……….hopeless.

    • Anonymous says:

You are not blind.  You are stupid.  Read the report!  The car in the picture is a car they used after dumping the Rav4,

The article was updated AFTER the comment was sent in. The reader actually has wording from the article which was posted with the pictured Ford Explorer.
