Inmate bites off guard’s ear
(CNS): Officials have confirmed that a prison guard at HMP Northward had his ear partially bitten off by a prisoner on Friday morning during an altercation inside the prison. Officials from the jail said that the officers remained professional and despite the assault the prisoner who bit the guard was secured by other officers and unharmed. The officer was treated at the Cayman Islands Hospital and reported the incident to Bodden Town police station. The RCIPS have confirmed that they are now investigating the assault, which happened at around 7:30 in the morning. Meanwhile, in the afternoon another package containing ganja and a cell phone was thrown over the fence in what officials said is becoming an almost daily occurrence.
Following the admissions by prison director Dwight Scott last Tuesday during Finance Committee that the prison is battling a constant stream of drugs being thrown into the prison over the parameter fence, another package containing drugs and a phone got into the prison the same way.
According to the CCTV system, a vehicle drove alongside the prison on the public road and a passenger in the vehicle lobbed the package over the fence.
“This was observed by officers on the prison's CCTV security system and as a result, a black plastic bag containing 2 parcels of vegetable matter resembling ganja weighing a total of 3½ oz, 1 Lime PCD camera phone with acharger was recovered behind two cell blocks,” officials stated. “The police have been notified and have been requested to investigate this matter.”

very simple is build another fence round the prison but 25 feet apart and 20 feet high! There is no way anyone can throw that far to the prison ground.
And if they can, they will immediately be roped into the Prison Cricket Club!
Interesting to see if this is an isolated incident. CNS, how about an FOI request to determine the percentage of LIME phones currently in use at Northward vs. other carriers. With this kind of endorcement, it may be time for me to make a change.
Who bought the phone or who did it belong to?
Cant you just build a guard station before you actually enter the prison and check all incoming traffic and also who they are there to visit and re-confirm it on a visitors list. Maybe there are other back roads that lead in . I dont really know the terrain over there.
So they got the car on camera ? That should be an easy one . . . . .
Easier though, is to legalize mariuana, downsize the prison and let the police fight the real crime: corrupt politicians.
Move the ciminals to the Brac.
Honestly why did you even type that? besides wanting to incite people. Try to utilize whatever intelligence you may have and tell your brain to park before it hurts itself.
It does not incite people from Grand Cayman. It seems an excellent idea to move these types away from the population centres. It would also provide some employment on the Brac, and goodness knows how often the Brackers are moaning about that.
Brac might as well do one thing positive for the nation. It sure costs GC enough in subsidies every year.
Don't worry, the speed people from GC are buying land on the Brac at least the land clearers and builders are keeping busy!!!.
Inmates must be experiencing some withdrawals with the recent drug busts at the prison. Give them their weed to chill them out and they'll stop attacking and eating prison gards.
Well simply observe and arrest everyone throwing contraband into the prison and charge the inmate for aggravated assault on the corrections officer. This must be done because control of the inmates is vital as we have seen the dangers of rioting as happened in 1999.
Isn't there a ROAD to the prison? Can't we STOP the "friends, wives, and baby-mommas" from throwing the ganga and cell phones over the walls? Just a thought, but these "accomplices" could be caught in a sting operation. They have to park somewhere. They are not walking down that long road from miles away?
Catch the accomplices, jam the cell phones, and ask Eric Bush to grow a pair and solve this problem. We are not talking about prisons the size of mexico…we are talking about a SMALL population in a rural setting!
Bring Arizona's Jo Arpaio here for one week, problem solved. We are too soft and our criminals KNOW IT…crime is going up, not dwon.
Please just install a second fence a few feet behind the first fence and the free aread outside has just become smaller.
Also, is there any initiative by the police to stake out the people who throw the stuff over the fence and arrest them accordingly? Doesn't seem to be that hard of a thing to do, but may need to required someone to work through a couple of nights hiding in the bushes and get bit by some mosies.
Hmm..This would inflict more expenses for the government. Do you really think thats a great location to spend our countries hard earned funds?
Well…Legalizing(within LIMITS)something that will NEVER be stopped on such an island located in the Caribbean Sea makes more sense.
Due to the fact that users of this OH SO DEADLY AND ILLEAGAL DRUG THAT TURNS PEOPLE INTO ZOMBIES!!! are the same ones right next to YOU in your home, with your loved ones..and well just might be YOUR LOVED ONES…
Face It, because you just dont know it YET.
I did not know that MIKE TYSON lived at northward prison
