Robbers strike in capital
(CNS): Detectives from George Town police station have opened two investigations following an attempted robbery and a robbery which occurred within less than an hour of each other on Sunday night. In the first instance the would-be robber escaped empty handed but in the second the two suspects got away with cash. In both cases police say that the perpetrators were armed with hand guns. The attempted robbery occurred at about 9.20pm last night when a female taxi driver arrived in Breezy Way, George Town, to pick up a fare. As she arrived at the location, a man appeared from the bushes and pointed a handgun at the window of the taxi. The woman drove off and the man did not obtain any cash.
Police said this first suspect is described as having a brown complexion and about 5’7” in height. He was of small build with a broad upper body and was wearing blue denim cut-off pants, a dark long sleeve shirt and a navy blue and white bandana. He also had a dark tam covering his head and face.
Around 50 minutes later, at about 10.00pm, two masked men entered the office of Cayman Karting in Sparky Drive, George Town, where staff were closing up for the night. One of the suspects was in possession of a handgun. The suspects demanded money before running off from the scene with a sum of cash.
The first of these two suspects is described as having a skinny build, about 5’9” wearing a yellow and black hoody, long dark baggy jeans and a bandana covering the face. He spoke with a Caymanian accent. Hisaccomplice was around 5’11” in height, wearing all black clothing and a bandana covering his face.
No shots were discharged and no-one was injured in either of these incidents.

The second half of the title should be, "and politicians continue to do nothing to deter crime."
It 's pretty obvious with our ernormous population of over 50,000 we need to increase our police budget to match this. we clearly need more Blokes sorry Bobbies on the Beat. Yes compare to other jurisdictions who have a larger population and a smaller budgets and less resources It is absolutely clear nothing is wrong with our management here??????? Lets say 100 million that should just do it for us Cayman after all that is the budget for some cities in the US.
Some people must really have a serious laugh about this little place. A fool and his money soon shall part, comes to mind.
Dear anon16:59 their waiting on YOU! to go out there and take action to defend or solve if for them and pray you don't have to use force or threaten to do so because you will be locked up and force to inhale copious amounts of Ganja smoke at Northward prison.How's that for you. This place has been allowed to become an intelligently aggressive lawless society unless you are well connected and to justify our governing power to employ more foreign police than Quakers have Oats. More robberies equals more foreign Police needed and a bigger budget than some small countries. How sad we lack good leadership on this island instead of a hoard of corrupt economic opportunist running all facets of our government.
We are no longer surprised at this sort of news. It is a common occurrence. Yet for most of us we remember that only a few years ago this was unusual and not the norm. Our police commissioner is incensed when we complain that the police force is not as effective as it should be given the size of the force and the size of the island (for whatever the reason). I can’t understand why he gets so annoyed at criticism other than perhaps this is better than what he is use to, and he can’t understand why we are complaining. The police ball was fabulous and is to be the premier event, sold out etc. But it’s not a priority. Until crime is resolved and managed GT will continue to die. Who wants to risk being there after hours. And the islands tourism will continue to be at risk. No matter how crazy the headlines, always remember that true to form, much of what happens doesn’t always get reported. BTW did they solve the crime of the police officers home that got shot up and a reward was offered?! Enough said! Sir, get a thicker skin, give up the social butterfly act and get on with it. We want to support you and see you victorious in the job at hand. It’s in everyones best interest .
