Manderson takes up official role in legislature

| 05/04/2012

Deputy Gov sworn in (231x300).jpg(CNS): Although the Legislative Assembly session on Wednesday morning was short, there was time for Deputy Governor Franz Manderson to take his oath of allegiance as an ex-officio member of the country’s parliament. Speaker Mary Lawrence welcomed Manderson on behalf of all the members at the start of the fifth meeting of the 2011/12 session.  The deputy governor has responsibility for internal and external affairs as well as the civil service, and takes the seat of his predecessor, the recently retired Donovan Ebanks. Although Manderson can take part in debates and bring bills, ex-officio members cannot vote on laws or motions.

I met this gentleman 36 years ago when I moved to the Cayman Islands.  Then, Mr. Manderson was an ordinary Immigration Officer.  What set him apart from others to this day,  was his ability and sincerity when dealing with people in general.  Mr. Manderson who is a Caymanian to the bone treat people like humans, even when he caught them living in his country illegally. He was always respectful, he  gave sound advise, dealt with you firmly and fairly.  Franze had the right attitude not only today but from yester year.  Franze, we are so proud of you. I say this today without any reservations, that you are a true role model of a REAL Caymanian.  To the Young People, get to know Mr. Manderson and mold yourselves so that one day you too can be like Mr. Manderson and shine positively in your country.   Well done Ms. Jenny for producing such a fine gentleman.

So very proud of you Mr Manderson. You could well have gone into the private sector as a lawyer and become a wealthy man. To your absolute credit, you have remained in Government and provided solid leadership in any post you’ve held. I have worked with you over the years and there is little doubt that your integrity and your ability to make wise decisions makes you truly the best man for the job.
