Cayman’s Dubai and Hong Kong offices in limbo

skyline.jpg(CNS Business): The contracts for the Cayman Islands government’s representatives in Dubai and Hong Kong expired, at the end of May 2011 and December 2011 respectively, and have not been renewed while the Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) is revising its structure of the government’s overseas offices. The United Democrat Party had opened an office in Hong Kong during the previous UDP administration but, maintaining that it was too costly to run, the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) closed the office in2005 and also scrapped plans for an office in Dubai. Back in power following the May 2009 general elections, the UDP resumed plans for the offshore offices, launching the Dubai office in December 2009 and the Hong Kong office in October 2010.
