Grand Cayman loses power
(CNS): Residents on Grand Cayman woke up on Wednesday to an island-wide loss of power, and police are urging motorists and other road users to take extra care this morning during the blackout. Drivers should slow down as they approach junctions and be aware that traffic light signals are out. The RCIPS said that officers will be posted at major junctions in an attempt to alleviate congestion. CUC said that initial investigations revealed that source of the power outage appeared to be a problem at the West Bay sub-station, which appears to have affected the power company’s entire system. Crews have responded and are working as quickly as possible to restore power to customers, a spokesperson stated, but was unable to say when power would return as she offered apologies for the inconvenience to CUC customers.

I really slowed down at the traffic lights – to have a good laugh at the police. They had absolutely no idea what to do. One officers only used one hand as he was holding his radio in the other and was actualy stood at the side of the road and not in the middle of the junction. Another one just made up hand signals as he thought fit. Thank you RCIPS you brightened my day up. Obviously basic police training no longer covers these old fashioned eventualities.
Do we get a discount on our next invoice because of this power outage?
No I bet we wont, and you had better be sure to pay your bill on time too or you will have a further outage. If they did not offer customers at Cuc during the robbery a break then you do not expect any thing else. One of their stupid staff was in a supermarket laughing at one of the customers who had gotten down on the floor during the robbery. He is perhaps too stupid to even be scared of a gun.
SO TRUE that electricity cost is sky rocket, which comprised mostly of fuel charge. I’m sure there’s a lot of alternative energy source available out there that can decrease the energy bill instead of having a fuel cost on the CUC invoice that comprised more than half of the total bill, very costly.
Its back on now, THE LORD IS GOOD.

God, we need to get rid of CUC's power and sway over this island! They can hold us and this government hostage anytime they feel like. I mean seriously we have to do something and stop this monopoly. I was charged over 500 hundred dollars on my light, went to CUC, and they threatened to turn off my light if I didn't pay by the end of the month. Come to find that the 500 added was from 5 years ago when I was living somewhere else. They apologise and told me that they were reveiwing their backlog records and found it, but I had to pay. It was no problem paying, but what bothers me, they could be in the wrong and there is no one to run to because they will win a court case.
I wonder if this will mean a lower power bill next month? I won't hold my breath.
what CUC should do is do rite towards thier customers and reimburse them something what about the groceries that will be lost they have no compassion on thier customers at all. what they need is compition and quickly.

Would have made no difference – it was a substation failure tripping the grid i.e. its the way the electricity is transmitted to consumers, not how it is generated.
As of 10:00am, CUC has not posted anything on their web page.
Maybe they don’t have power… Hahahahaa. Man it’s hot!
Great, not only do the hard working people of Cayman not have power and have to wait for CUC to fix their problem, we will probably incur the cost of whatever went wrong as well.

Grand Cayman loses power as she loses her tax free status! Both governments, this one (UDP) and the previous one (PPM), have caused LIGHTS OUT for Cayman. This is bad a omen, I can feel it in my bones, and no one is to blame but all of them. Financial mismanagement of a country is a sin!
Guess its about time for the rates to go up again… a nice long power outage to remind us that we love our A/C.
We need to get rid of this monopoly, but strangely every party that gets in, fails to do it.
