Hey bozo, if you are trying to be sarcastic, maybe you should be traumatized and robbed in the dark, and maybe you can get a better description.

      • xxxxwit says:

Updated Description: The criminal has a tendancy to call people "Bozo" and be rude in CNS posts.

the RCIPS is asking me to give evidence against a man i have tols them who will harm me, i have refused to provide it.

their answer, when i asken them who would provide me, a single woman living alone, the protection i would need in case of an incident was: "the duty of the RCIPS is to provide protection to the community."

previously, i have called and reported to the "RCIPS" the information and identity as well as place of residence of an individual whom threatened myself and place of work of an armed robbery.

    • Dennie Warren Jr. says:

I would advise you to take all steps necessary to be able to protect yourself, because you may first need to survive an attack before getting an opportunity report it to the police.

"If your home is burgled and you're in there, you have the right to get rid of the burglar," the Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge said.  He was speaking after judge Michael Pert QC said yesterday that being shot by homeowners was simply a chance that burglars took. (Sept. 26 2012)
      • Pistol Pete says:

Yet again this poster is taking something completely out of context to suit a pro-gun case.  The judge stressed that only reasonable force is permitted.  The use of unreasonable force would mean that the user of violence would be criminally liable.

The Pert judgment merely indicated that when sentencing it was not a factor in reduction of sentence that the burglar was injured in the course of the crime.

Cayman has no wider right of self-defence that England.

If you bring a machete or gun into a house while committing a crime or you do the same out on the street while mugging someone, you can bet your ass i will be doinig the same and it be the intruder or muggerthat has the criminal liability, if they or I survive.

I no longer argue with liberals who ignore common sense like I once did, but you should know and remember that I reserve that right to defend myself, family, friend or stranger against criminal attack which I feel may result in physical injury…, whenever necessary and by any means necessary to prevent or stop such a crime from being committed against me…  Your approval for such is not needed and is not being sought.

          Pistol Pete…

You need to read today's British news.

Homeowners Get New Rights To Attack Burglars

Frightened householders who over-react when confronted by burglars will get more protection under Government plans, the new Justice Secretary will say today.

Chris Grayling plans to change the law to ensure evenhouseholders who use force in a way that may seem disproportionate in the cold light of day will be protected from prosecution.

Quit misleading CNS readers re the right to self-defense in Britain vs The Cayman Islands.

In Britain, bar any serious record of criminal convictions or mental health issues, citizens have the RIGHT to apply for a shotgun licence.

It does not mean that a licence will automatically be granted but every British home has the RIGHT to apply for one, theoretically.

That is a long way off from only the privileged Gun Club membership in Cayman being allowed to apply for any type of firearms licences…and only farmers having the privilege to apply for shotguns licences.

People have been agitating for more self-defense rights and the right to self-defense tools such as MACE and pepper-spray, especially for lone females for YEARS now…and much more recently and NOTHING has happened….

Except a poor female being arrested and prosecuted for the possession of pepper spray found in her possession after a traffic stop and search…something she had to help herself in just such a situation as this.

It is people like YOU and your stupid, bleeding-heart liberal views that are putting poor innocent, defenseless people like this woman who has been mugged and robbed at more risk….

And I'm sure you would have been one of the first to applaud her arrest and conviction had SHE been found with pepper spray in her possession BEFORE she was attacked.

People like you really make me sick to my stomach !

Why is skin color not part of the description?

    • Anonymous says:

We don’t like to ralk about race. We’re not comfortable with it yet.

      • Anonymous says:

The description released was the one given by the victim. She was too busy being robbed to pick up te details to satisfy you, the armchair detective.

        • Hogwash says:

Hogwash.  Height, build, clothes and hat are all well-described, yet you'd have us believe she didn't look the robber in the face?  You'd further have us believe that you have "special access" to the police files so as to know whether or not there is a description of the skin colour there in the report, such that you can post on CNS from a position of authority?  You don't really know anything about this at all, do you?  Perhaps just posting with the hope of being relevant to the matter at hand?  Hogwash.

  5. SKEPTICAL says:

Boy, on the basis of RCIPS statements that crime is down, I would hate to think what Cayman would be like if their was a rise in criminal activity.

  6. Come A Long Way says:

The locals have responsiblity for crime among locals.  But when this type of crime leaks out into the tourist or expat communities then it has very serious consequences for Cayman and merits additional expenditure on policing to protect the key areas which are so important to the economy.

    • Anonymous says:

11.37..afraid your remark is reprehensible, even to another ex-pat. What makes a crime against an ex-pat or tourist any worse than against a native? Nothing, nothing at all. Anyone reading Cayman news reports (as a lot of people do before coming here) will be concerned at any attack, or home invasion or mugging, regardless of to whom it happened. It indicates that there is crime in general to be worried about. Of course, it might get more international media attention if a tourist is attacked, which is not good, and I am not saying that is right either, but it is the way it is. In general, if you look at how Jamaica, Mexico or Honduras are portrayed these days, Cayman still has a long way to go to get to those levels, and what is interesting is that the international press balances that out with attacks against nationals getting as much attention as tourist attacks. I hope you did not mean your comment the way it sounds, because frankly it sounds racist and possibly worse.

Tourism will probably evolve into a series of gated, all-inclusive resorts behind razor wire.

    That is a sad future.

However, it does not have to be that way. Aggressive birth control practices will help prevent unwanted pregnancies amongst young, single women. Aggressive improvement in pre-natal child care wil reduce the number of children that are born with physical and mental disabilities that are associated with pre-natal abuse that is caused by mothers-to-be who consume drugs (both legal and illegal) and eat poorly. The results of this program would not be seen for at least 18 to 20 years; but it would be worth the effort.

In other words, treat procreation with the honour and respect that it deserves and demands.

Yet more evidence of how cowardly men are, attacking women what a bunch of soft sods (that is putting it politely!).

I'm going to start carrying my wife's handbag around with me, in the hope one of these lowlife bums tries to attack me.

  10. I wonder if says:

I wonder if she had access to Pepper Spray or a Gun if this would have been called a mugging or a self-defence shooting.

    • Anonymous says:

Statistically it would much more likely that it would have been the victim that was murdered if there were greater availability of weapons.

      • Dennie Warren Jr. says:

Total nonsense and you know it!  You do know that right?

        • Pistol Pete says:

I know that more guns mean more gun deaths and we are blessed by wonderfully strict gun laws.  The weight of independent evidence to support such a position is overwhelming.  The local pro-gun advocates I have met have only strengthened my belief.

          • Rorschach says:

I'm not sure I would use the term "Blessed" when referring to strict gun laws.  I'ts known that there are more criminals with guns than law abiding citizens..I guess if I lived in a country where the organization tasked with enforcing the laws and protect the citizenry were more serious about actually doing it, then i might feel blessed..but in this current atmosphere, I certainly don't…

          • Anonymous says:

“Independent evidence”? May I please be supplied with copies of that “evidence”?

      • Devil's Advocate says:

Clearly you haven't read the statistics.

    • Julie Arnall says:

I have been the victim of two assaults in Cayman in the last few years, one in the street, on South Church Street, and the other in my home in South Sound. Both times there was no chance for me to use any pepper spray or any other weapon in self defence as the assaults happened so fast that I had no chance to react, and I truly believe that if I had a weapon that it probably would have been taken off me and used against me. I was very lucky to have survived both times and I can thank my wits and the police officers, who were wonderful,  for helping me emotionally to overcome these incidents and make me a stonger person each time. I can imagine that this young women had no chance to react but she did survive and hopefully will get over this in time and like me,become a stronger person.

That is terrible. My heart goes out to you. Just remember, events like that get embedded in   your body cells memory and later on manifest as a physical illness. The only thing I can recomend is BSFF  ("Behavioral & Emotional Symptom Elimination Training For Resolving Excess Emotion: Fear, Anger, Sadness & Trauma.")Program- you can do it yourself and you can afford it. Do not wait.

        Julie

You have not been TRAINED to react properly in these situations, and neither was this lady who was attacked, so….

A gun or pepper spray or any other self-defense tool would have been useless to you but…

I guarantee you that a properly trained person male or female, has much more working with than an untrained person.

As a professional in the area of security and self-defense training, I've been advising people to associate themselves, either in the currently existing social clubs like Rotary, Lions or Kiwanis…or form their own associations and lobby the CI Government for changing the laws re self-defense and training.

The training experts are out there, ready to go to work…

We can already defend and protect ourselves…

It is for you, the innocent, defenseless victims to get to work and do your part on your won behalf….and the politicians are who you have to confront on this issue.
