Sandy forecast to strengthen as it approaches Jamaica
(CNS): Updated Tuesday 1pm – Tropical Storm Sandy was located some 275 miles SSW of Jamaica at noon today heading NNE at 5mph. According to the National Hurricane Centre in Miami, Sandy was packing winds of over 50 mph and further strengthening is expected before the strom reaches Jamaica sometime on Wednesday evening. The system is still unlikely to pose a threat locally as it is forecast to move directly across Jamaica and Cuba in the coming days, passing well to the east of the Cayman Islands. Forecasters at the NHC said Sandy was expected to travel north-northeastward today with an increase in forward speed and would be a hurricane by the time it reaches Jamaica where warnings are in effect.

I think we need to keep an eye on this one; while most of the models are in current agreement on a tracking northeast of the Sister Islands, many of the models have not yet initialised, and probably will not until a TS forms and it has more of a closed circulation.
Remember Ivan and Paloma? Not trying to fearmonger. Storms are often unpredictable, particularly when they form close to us. It appears to all be in the timing of a low pressure trough to pull probably-soon-to-be-Sandy northward.
Just keep a watch on this one (and anything in our area until it has passed).
My neighbor told me "naw, it's goin' east," and showed me the spaghetti graphic of models, as though there were a line to which the TD was tethered.
Prayers for Haiti and anyone in the storm's path can't hurt. Be safe everybody, and if you don't have a good stock of supplies put aside, this might be a good time to avoid the feeding frenzy.
I hope it doesn't hurt nobody and don't cause any damage on wherever path it takes!
