MLAs agree to oust Mac

| 18/12/2012

_DEW2373 (2).jpg(CNS): Five UDP members of parliament have signed a letter along with the opposition calling for a no confidence in the government debate, which will see Premier Mckeeva Bush ousted from office before the end of Tuesday. With no agreement among the United Democratic Party on how to handle the crisis of their leader’s arrest, Juliana O’Connor Connolly, Rolston Anglin, Mark Scotland, Cline Glidden and Dwayne Seymour have put their names on a letter along with all of the opposition members, forcing a sitting of the House, after the speaker failed to respond to the opposition leader’s request Monday.

Ezzard Miller, the independent member for North Side, confirmed to CNS Tuesday morning that the letter from the opposition benches had been submitted to the speaker with eleven signatures — four more than the seven required to trigger the emergency meeting, which is expected to be held sometime this afternoon (Tuesday 18 December).

Although Mike Adam, Capt Eugene Ebanks and Ellio Solomon have not signed the letter calling for the meeting and a lack of confidence debate, it is understood that, should the motion succeed and bring down the current UDP administration led by the embattled McKeeva Bush, the three men might be encouraged to help reconstitute a UDP government until the General Elections in May.

If the premier remains with the UDP, it might still hold their majority of three. However, should Bush cross the floor taking any of the other three memebrs with him, the UDP splinter group would not be able to hold government.

As the opposition is unlikely to prop up a divided UDP, this will see Cayman go to the polls as early as March. However, if the UDP can regain some unity, Deputy Premier Juliana O'Connor Connolly would take up the job of premier for the next five months, while Anglin would become deputy. Glidden is still expected to take over Bush’s portfolio.

While the premier remained defiant about remaining in office one week after his arrest on serious criminal charges, including theft and offences under the anti-corruption law, the UDP caucus spent the last seven days flip-flopping over their loyalty to the UDP’s leader, the country’s first premier and the Cayman Islands longest serving member of the Legislative Assembly.

Check back to CNS for more on this story later today.

I think what should have happened was Mr. Bush, step down until things were sorted to avoid a mess like this. Not an admission of guilt but to do what was best until things are resolved.  This looks horrible, my God!

I say, shouldn't Bobo Anglin be resigning too?  I meeeean what kinda business weeeze running heeeeea?

Looks like one of the rats just gave me a thumb down.  Ouchhh!!!  Mirror, mirror on the wall, whose the biggest rat of all?  Hmmh, let me think – there's that big, and I mean big, lady with a private chauffeur, another who has some sacred vessel or something to that effect, and his  little buddy Gilligan…  Or maybe I ought to call them Laurel and Hardy.  Hmmh.  Let me tell you though, that Hardy guy, the one with the sacred vessel sure knows no honour; if I recall, wasn't Boss Hog the one who stood by him in his time of need?  Be careful who your friends are, that's what I say.  Rats, I tell ya – every one of them.  Pheeeww, I could go on, but these rats sure stink to the high heavens…  Cayman gonna be havin some pork for Christmas – Big Boss Hog gonna get sliced and diced by his frienz.  Like Macho Man Randy Savage used to say, OOOOOOHHH YEEEEA!!!

There is no honour in supporting the continuance of McKeeva Bush in office at the expense of the interests of your country. Whatever Mr. Seymour has done himself, on this occasion he acted honourably.

      • Say Wha? says:

Well look, normally I'd agree with you… If putting country above all else is the case I'd say you have a great point – unfortunately, that's not the case…  The fact of the matter is that both Laurel and Hardy probably still think that they have a chance at getting re-elected; so they're most likely doing this in order to save any chance at re-election.  Neither Laurel nor Hardy showed any morals in the past 4 years – what makes you think that all of a sudden they're dripping with ethics???  In summary, it has nothing to do with country but all to do with their personal situation – nothing has changed…

        • Anonymous says:

No doubt that was also considered but nonetheless it required a great of courage to take that stand and these two were the most resolute and consistent of all of them. No one will take them seriously as independents and they are in a no-man's land between UDP membership which probably still supports Mac, and the PPM.

I am shocked to see that Michael "Mike"Adam is not among those that are calling for the premier's resignation. He is of impeccable background and should stand his ground and be counted amongst those who are calling for McKeeva's  resignation.

    • Anonymous says:

Mike didn't actually vote yet, he  just didn't sign the paper calling for the emergency meeting (which granted he should have).  As I understand it though, he will indeed be voting McKeeva out.

      • Anonymous says:

That means he is cowardly. He needs to go in May 2013 as well.

      • Anonymous says:

Does it really matter? It's hard to pretend that you respect someone who needs three attempts to do the right thing.

Just imagine if two of them had done the right thing when the first "no confidence" vote in McKeeva was brought to the House. Any of them claiming that there was insufficient evidence should take another read of the letter to Stan Thomas.

      • Anonymous says:

Well obviously your understanding was wrong.

I wonder if he was threatened?

    • Anonymous says:

His 'impeccable' background? Being a people pleaser withou any backbone can get you far but people eventually see through it……

We need to STOP paying salaries to people like Capt Eugene, Micke Adam and Anthony Eden. I hope PPM will also refuse his application to run, how much more money does he need? his family are set for life and he never had to do anything except say 'yah' a prayer now and then.

SO yes, Mike Adam is far cry from his intelligent and outspoken brother (?) or relative that calls the talk shows, so backgroudn or not we need legislators not 'oh she/he nice,'….. that's the job description!!!

    • Anonymous says:

He is a beard and a smile without a backbone.

    • Anondarass says:

      “Impeccable background”?
Why don’t you do some research on “The West Bay Polo Club” and “Southern Health Network”, both of Turks & Caicos fame & linked to names such as Delroy Howell, Michael Misick & one McKeeva Bush …. oh, and also one Michael Adams.

    • Anonymous says:

The only thing "impeccable" about mike Adam is his hair and beard, the rest of him smells just like Mac.

      • Anonymous says:

Mike dont have to worry about his seat for the next election. Regardless of which Governments he will be there. Just remember he hs one of the best campaigners in George Town who never loose an Election. Mikes Mom also paved the way for him from the time she was alive. He is a gentleman.

    • Anonymous says:

Just leave Hon Mike out of this please!!!!! At least he is loyal until Mckeeva is proven guilty or at least charged. He sure like hell shows that he is not power hungry, because if we had to choose he would have been the new Premier.

      • Anonymous says:

Mike is a FLAKE.  His actions today shows us George Towners at least one thing. That he falls into the same category as his other George Town counterpart. An honest to God bottom feeder who is spineless, lacks integrity and cannot identify a national crisis even though it is staring him in the face.  Whilst, i agree his familial background seems to have helped him to gain his position, George Town may have put in the wrong Adam brother. Country first Mike.

To retain any semblence of respect you have in the country, please do not put your hat in the ring next election. Please bow out quietly.

Also to Mikeand Elio, the UDP may have fooled all of us last election and made George Town look like West Bay with the tail coats and all, but we George Towners nah so fool fool yah see. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I tell yah wah. I ain't no idiot. You never got my vote the last time and you certainly will not get it this time.

And to all of you all who think the reform UDP Rake called the Coalition for Cayman is anything to put in as an alternative, please ask yourself who were these people supporting right before the ka ka  hit the fan?  Yes! the UDP.

This is truly a sad day and a good day for Cayman all in one.  The stuggle is not yet over. As we can see Big Mac likes a production. We just experienced Cannes, wait for the Oscars in 2013.

I will bet that the only sitting MLA enjoying a bellyful of laughs out of all this is Kurt Tibbetts. I can remember very clearly when Mackeeva Bush engineered his coup de etat to oust Kurt as Leader of Government business. I can also remember clearly how Kurt took it all gracefully and did not put up much resistance.

What goes around certainly comes around and if Kurt is enjoying this I would certainly agree with him 100 percent.

Replace Mac with JuJu? A classic case of jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

The cure may be worse than the disease.

The 2013 elections will not fix the problem as there are still too many of the corrupt and incompetant old guard running.

Perhaps 2017 will offer some hope if and when some young, competant, educated, and ethical Caymanians step up to the plate. I know they exist.

    • Anonymous says:

At this moment we cannot CHOOSE who will replace Mac if he is ousted! Julianna is Deputy Premier which therefore stands that she will assume the post of Premier until elections. That's how it works….

We all talk about how horrible government is both UDP and PPM and, oh Lordy even worse the independent candidate for North Side. Sigh. We will not do ANYTHING about this political arena unless the younger generation steps up, voters vote for them, and we move on.

Oh. Hold on. Foolio got in, didnt he? Another *sigh*.

These political dinosaurs need to go extinct as well. Who the heck cares that Big Mac is the longest serving member of the LA, just goes to show you, Big Mac, senility is not a quality that will get you voted back in. You took government salary for what 117 years? and then your pension on top of it. Sit back, and fade away. Let our nation prosper, dammit.

Should not all of this  be aired on the Government television channel in order that there is transparency for all to see, rather than that announcements  supplied by the media.
