Major Red Bay smash lands two in hospital

| 19/12/2012

(CNS): Two people have been taken to hospital following a major road crash in the Red Bay area Wednesday, police said. At around About 1:35pm today, 19 December, a white Honda Integra collided with Toyota Landcruiser as it tried to turn left from Selkirk Drive into Red Bay Road. The Landcruiser flipped following the collision before coming back to land on its wheels again and both cars sustained major damage. The man who was driving the Honda lost consciousness and is currently being treated at the Cayman Islands Hospital. The woman who was driving the Landcruiser is also being treated in hospital for injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police and fire crews remain on the scene where there is an oil spill. Although single traffic lanes remain open in both directions, drivers are being urged by police to drive slowly and use caution.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should call Inspector Adrian Barnett at the RCIPS Traffic Management Dept. on 946-6254.

    Accidents happen for 2 reasons:

    1. Driving to fast.

    2. Not being carefull.

Even though in this specific situation with a wall blocking the view, it is NOT difficult to STOP and have a look what's coming.

      You forgot to add:

      3) Being drunk

      4) Being high

      5) Being unable to see through a stupid wall which no-one has the guts to sort out because it is a church wall.

When will someone finally demand that the chruch remove that wall?? It's almost impossible to see around it. Does someone have to die before something is done about it??

I knew it there will be a major car accident at that junction. It is so dangerous junction that I had 2 cars nearly hit me.

It's not a Dangerous intersetion, it is the ineptness of the drivers that do not know how to merge into the flow of traffic, and feel they need to be in the farthest lane.

Turn left, when safe to do so,

match your speed to the flow of traffic,

MERGE into the right lanes when safe to do so.

The other alternative, turn left when safe to do so, and pick up the round about from Shamrock Rd

So easy a caveman could do it.

A merge lane does not exist at that intersection. you are confusing it with the one before it, when you are exiting the Grand Habour complex.

He is right though. There should be no reason for a collision there unless someone is doing something wrong.

I don't think they are getting the two confused and the advice is correct, you will usually see someone pull out of that junction across three lanes of traffic into the far right lane. It's not limited to this junction and it a particularly dangerous maneuver.

They are saying don't pull across three lanes, pull into the first lane, speed up, and then move across to the middle lane when it's safe, you don't have much space to do this but it's not difficult.  You should never leave that junction and end up in the outside lane.
