Mac claims to forgive
(CNS): In a contradictory message delivered for the New Year, the former Cayman Islands premier claimed that he forgives the former Cabinet colleagues who brought down his government but accuses them of stabbing him in the back. In the only New Year’s message delivered from any politician to the media this year, McKeeva Bush says that he was hurt by his former colleagues and those he had helped the most. And although the governor has gone against his wishes and appointed the minority government, ousting him from office, he still asks the country to give them a chance. Distancing himself from the moves by the UDP membership to oust them from the party, Bush said the party had rules which appled to all members and was out of his control.
However, it is still not clear exactly what the position of the minority cabinet is. Although Rolston Anglin, Cline Glidden, Mark Scotland and Dwayne Seymour have all been formally ejected from the UDP, the position of the new premier is unclear. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly has not yet resigned and it is understood that her Sister Islands committee has made no move to oust her. As yet there has been no comment from the premier about her position in the UDP and whether there will now be a fight for the party or whether there will be reconciliation.
In his message Bush, who is now still considered the UDP leader, talked about the need to be conciliatory on the one hand, even as he accused his former colleagues of betrayal on the other. He also issued a warning to the governor that the UK should be looking to unite the country and not to divide it.
“The law should be followed by all, but you should not be a partisan referee, who is always ready to pounce when the ball is on one side, and turning a blind eye against the infringements of the other team or in your own infringements wherever they are found,” Bush told Duncan Taylor.
Talking about the need for a government that can address the country’s economic woes, and not to engage in endless political bickering, Bush insisted that he had left Cayman in good shape and said his record of accomplishments would speak for themselves. The former premier, ironically, called for a different kind of Cayman, “where everyone wins, and not a winner take all”, and a change in “the way we do business”, as he urged people to “embrace one another and encourage democratic space".
He stated that, as a country, the people must learn to forgive and forget and minimize the divisions.
“The country must have a shift from vengeance and vindictive politics by all, including the media and the Chamber of Commerce,” Bush stated in the message. “We must go beyond parochial politics; we have to look beyond our petty differences. I will say that I bear no grudge to the minority government or anyone else.”
Bush said that he may not have “expected to be stabbed from behind by the friends I have lived to trust, trained and nurtured,” as he accused those that he had “helped the most politically” of hurting him the most. However, he said he forgave the new Cabinet and wished them the best as they carried out the business of government.

If you’re going to be a public relations team please be clearer. I think if they are going to be loyal stooges they should come out and say they will serve his time. Four or five years in Northward couldn’t hurt any loyal stooge. Three meals a place to sleep reading newspapers and sprucing up your tan couldn’t hurt anyone. They could write a book as well. They could call it “I did time for the first and worst Premier”. Or “I stood in for my leader. If he can only get them to share the time between all his stooges I mean he has so many it could be a happy ending for the Puppet Master.

1. The mass status grants of 2003
2. Touring the world and talking down the economic since 2010
3. The selling off and swapping of crown lands
4. The $6 million owing to our treasury by Ritz Carlton
5. Not stepping aside after it was revealed that you were under investigation
I am praying for you and wish you the best of everything for 2013. I believethat your intentions were good in 1984 when you were a young politician politician full of zeal to represent your people. Caymanian are very forgiving you know that we don't hold grudges and want to welcome you back but you have to do the right thing. You are a son of the soil and we will never turn our backs on you if you are truly sorry. Many of our prodigal sons and daughters have returned and we did not cast them out. We await your return home with open arms and forgivness but you have to do the right things. Cayman is your country and Caymanians are your people and don't ever forget this because we are always there to give you a hand up when you fall, we will get mad at you for doing wrong but we will never stay mad at you that is not our nature.
I am sure that Mr. Bush just thinks this is a little misunderstanding and that the Governor will call him up and tell him he really is still the Premier.
He has to believe it otherwise he would have removed the sign at his residence that says "Premiers Residence".

He attempted to block the main hotel on the island from recieving any permits, stopping them bringing in tourists to spend money on island for the good of the people all over a percieved loss of face for him and a buddy.
This man only acted in his own interest, even to the detriment of the Cayman people.
If he truely wants our forgiveness he should truely confess his sins to the people first. He should own up to all the money he has lost. Why did he suddenly jump on a company that never even tendered for the cruise dock?

CNS: On Dec 19th the Governor revoked Bush's Premiership and Senior Cabinet standing rather than dissolve the LA. Given this act of consignment under the Cayman Constitution, are we sure he is still to be referred to as "Honorable"? It seems to me that if his qualifying credentials were enulled in such a way, he would henceforth be just another hustling commoner…no longer politically newsworthy. Perhaps I'm just overly hopeful.

Problem with Mr. Bush is that he expects unending loyalty from those who he "helped the most", when really, their loyalty should be to the country, not to support him in maintaining his status quo in the midst of never ending scandals and controversies and the black cloud of corruption investigations. Country first, remember that Mr. Bush. A true statesman would have willingly stepped aside long ago until the investigations were completed. There are many oppressive societies and regimes around the world who expect their people to have misplaced loyalty to one individual – that my friend, is known as a dictatorship, not a democracy. Hats off to the 5 who did finally take a stand, although a little too late, considering the massive amount of damage already done to Cayman's international image.
