There was a time, years ago, when Cayman was a simpler, caring and compassionate place,  Cuban escapees could find freedom, opportunity and safety in Cayman.  Nowadays, we just send them back to Cuba to face the oppression,  persecution and tyranny which they were trying to flee.  What has happened to us?  We made a deal with Castro; money is more important than life.  Is it any wonder Cayman is filled with crime and hate?  We have lost our heart.  Will our soul be next?

I don't believe for one minute that they were at sea for 20 days and still in excellent health.Perhaps we should try to find out who towed them in and led them to Safe Haven.I suspect that this is a big racket that is most likely supported by the Cuban Authorities ,since some of these so called refugees have been sent back more than once.If the Cuban Govt  is persecuting refugees ,how is it possible for some to escape and return so many times. Some of these trips are likely organised by agents who have the blessing of the Cuban authorities who probably charge a fee and then lead them to Cayman knowing that they will be returned to Cuba and any monies paid to agents lost.

Until questioned by objective immigration officers (assuming they exist and the process is carried out legally), we should not judge as to whether they are or they are not economic migrants…..they could well be refugees who require assistance and legal protection.

Before you all run down to the Centre of Rights and issue our proclamation for our comrades rights please make sure they did bring Cholera to these shores eh! cause that aint cover under the Human rights law but spreading infectious diseases is an offence under our criminal code.

Or mosquitoes with dengue. Because if the cholera didnt kill them in the 16 days at sea, it didnt kill the mosquitoes lurking around in their boat either. *end sarcasm*

In order to obtain landing rights for Cayman Airways the previous premier had to promise to repatriate Cuban refugees.

    Money comes first . . . . . .

Would someone with money, influence and a conscience please explain to them their rights under the CI Human Rights Act and then fight the CIG to stop this inhuman process.

They are already talking about a repatriation process before an asylum claim has been heard. Its a disgrace.

What if they were Hatians, would you suggest the same for them?

    • Anonymous says:

These peoples are not political refugees but economical refugees.  They should be sent back to Cuba.  This is no human rights issue and Cayman cannot afford to take care of its own people let along refugees.  Situations in Cuba continues to improve, they need to stay there and fight for their freedom instead of leaving .  Some of them have made their 3rd and 4th trips to Cayman.  Maybe you should go up to the compound and explain this to them.

With English of this quality, you must have been a star at law school when studying the law relating to refugees.

Is the RCIPS really taking credit for this?  Do your homework and you will find out who discovered these Cubans……

Wo found them is not important.  If you had the opportunity to see into the lives of these escaped cubans you woudl want them on the first flight out of here.

My only sincere concern is the Detention centre.  You will soon hear some have escaped.  Shouyld weask questions how come.  Government need to open the place again and run it with eretired ex  police officers, not with security guards.  It would surprise you to know what is happening.

If its as incompetently run as it seems then its NO surprise.  Its Caymankind.
