Bodden Town voters surpass West Bay numbers

| 31/01/2013

boddentownsign.png(CNS): Confirmed figures from the Cayman Islands Elections Office have revealed that 4,567 people are now registered to vote in Bodden Town, surpassing the 4,237 voters in the district of West Bay for the general election in May. However, both districts will be dwarfed by the number of people now eligible to go to the polls in the capital. According to the latest official figures, after the election registration campaign 7,457 voters will be entitled to cast a ballot in George Town on Election Day. The final figure for registered voters who will be qualified to take part in the national poll on 22 May is 18,556.

The surge in registered voters since the last election is due mostly to a concerted campaign since the July 2012 referendum, when considerable numbers of people in Cayman who wanted to vote when the national ballot on one man, one vote was announced were disenfranchised because they had failed to register in time.

More than 3,200 new voters will be able to go to the polls in May 2013 than were registered to vote in 2009. The latest figures from the Elections Office show that since Cayman voted in May 2009, every district has increased its voter numbers.

The smallest district of North Side has seen an increase in voters from 571 in 2009 to 602 this year and in East End there was a similar small growth from 599 in 2009 to 647.

Meanwhile, voter registration in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman grew from 980 to 1,046. In West Bay voters have increased from 3,762 to 4,237.

One of the most significant increases was in Bodden Town, where the voter list has grown by more than 1,000 from 3,481 in 2009 to 4,567 for this year’s election. The biggest jump of all, however, was in the capital, where voter registration surged from a 2009 figure of 5,968 to 7,457.

The signs entering BoddenTown speak of it being the first capital of the Cayman Islands, are there any historic buildings in BoddenTown to reflect this historical heritage?

    • Herodotus says:

Are you meaning "historic" in the American sense, i.e. a little bit old, or historic in the British sense, i.e. historic?

    • Savannah Resident says:

Are you kidding?  Pedro Castle and the Misson House come to mind..*facepalm*

    • Anonymous says:

08:17, to answer your question, yes there are buildings in Bodden Town to reflect this historical heritage.  Besides there are trees in the Bodden Town district which is still standing and is over 200 years old.  Writer you may want to look for some Bodden Town Historians who may guide you to this information,  ask for Ms. Twyla Vargas, Mr Nevile McCoy or Ms Mary Lawrence  They should be able to give you that information you seek.

      • Anonymous says:

You must be struggling if you consider a 200 year old tree "historic".

Can you remember ex premier Bush statement that he thougt West Bay should have the same number of seats as Georgetown, even though GT has a voter population of 75% more than WB

Really shows what Bush always cared about himself than real representation for the Cayman people

Boy dem PPM bloggers busy today. They after Chuckie and everybody else that aint PPM. But hear this PPM Bloggers…..come election day you all will have the same number of votes as the rest of us… more and no less. Blogs won't help your feeble BT candidates then. Ahhhh the great equalizer !!!

    • Anonymous says:

Bodden Town will definately not be returning PPM previous or present.  If you have an old jacket and thought it need to go to the dump, then send it to the dump.

  9. Slowpoke says:

So, even though I will have six votes, it works out to 1243 constituents per MLA, compared to 602 per person in NS.  Let's not even talk about the Brac…

I vote for Jesus, but unfortunately He is not on this year's ballot. Apparently neither does He reside in the hearts of our representatives. Not a darned one of you has ever brought the love of God into your campaign. You are bringing the harshness of satan and the love of money. We are few, but we are strong.

  14. School says:

Such a poor voter mentality in Cayman. Do you honestly think that a corrupt person is going to benefit you? How many of your politicians have stood on a platform of truth and accountability. NONE! So you choose Chucky, Bushy, Arden, Alden, Moses, Julie and God knows who else, but NONE of them are accountable to any Higher Power. Have you learned NOTHING? Screw the lot of you. And to the Caymanian Middle Class that find themselves in church this Saturday/Sunday, freaking shame on you. If you reckon that God is not interested in your fine details, reckon again. Youwill get the government that you deserve and in another 4 years, you'll be jostling with foreigners to cast your vote. Fools.

My votes in Bodden Town will go to Ossie, Wayne, Chuckie and Anthony.

    • Anonymous says:

What about Alva Suckoo? He's a great choice instead of Chuckie.

      • Anonymous says:

17:04 I told AL Sukoo not to run with them, but he just would not listen.  He is only being hung in as a fourth number.  The mentality of the other three is nothing about Bodden Town.  Who are they any way.  Anthony Eden is tired and need to stay home.  Wayne Panton  NO, not ready, does not even know where the BT Post Office is.  Ozzie, him again, NO.  You been there before and did nothing. NO>

Or old Anthony, or Out of Date Ossie, who gets beat with his own cow cod!

    • Anonymous says:

11:05  Sorry to disapoint you but that is four votes wasted.

Kenny is an ex convict, we’ll be better off voting for Frank Mcfield who want to legalized weed!

    Class mate of Kenny CBHS

    • Anonymous says:

There is room for redemption and Kenny has turned his life around. When Frank turned his life around in the 1990s he was voted in. Now it appears he has lost it again.

Plenty new voters in Dog City and The Swamp, Kenny got this in the bag.

The Chuckster and the BT Coalition are on the front lines in the fight against the UDP/Fab 5 to keep the dump out of BT. So you know how it go…….Chuckster to the front !

    • Anonymous says:

09:07  Bodden Town is not worring about the dump any more.  They are worried about people who cares nothing about this town,  We welcome the dump now that we understand what it is about.

Here are my 4 – Chuckie, Ossie,, Theresa and Wayne !

    • Anonymous says:

Is that straight line voting for the Monster Raving Loony Party?

    • Bodden Town says:

      My 4 for Bodden Town

Wayne Panton, Alva Suckoo, Ossie Bodden and Tony Eden.

Clifford does not bring anything new to the table we tried him and he did not deliver

Theresa is UDP they get no votes from me

Alva and Wayne are both educated, experienced and gentlemen, they are not interested in dirty politics and really want to work for the district. I say give them the opportunity to represent us.

Ossie and Tony we know are hard working and honest and experienced, the four of them make a well rounded team.

I want to see Wayne and Ossie as Ministers.

      • Anonymous says:

Oh for christ sake  please stop it, just admit that you are a hard core ppm supporter, who you fooling?

      • Anonymous says:

LOL…wha you say Ossie and Tony are hard working ?????? LOL. No sah weh you been…….show us the results of their hard labour please. I have lived in BT all of my life and I don't see it.

      • Anonymous says:

10:11. Im sorry, excuse my ignorance, but hopefully you can clear this up for me. You said you’re not voting for Clifford because he doesn’t bring anything new to the table and in his fiur years, he didn’t deliver… then you go on to say that you’re voting for Ossie, and you hope he will get minister. Now im not on anyones bandwagon but please explain the logic of voting for Ossie, when you clearly stated you are not voting for Clifford for not doing anything. What did Ossie do again or bring to the table? Please enlighten me and set me straight.

        Thanks in advance.

    • Anonymous says:

Poor ppm when had they chance what did Ossie do for BT except stop his own people from selling things at craft market? Mark gots to go for being so sneaking all he thinks we deserve is a dump

  21. Anonymous says:

I know me and my Newlands crew voting for Chuckie………ok Alden you can give your bloggers the green light for the thumbs down now that won't stop us BoBo ! 🙂

    • Anonymous says:

I plan to vote for Chukie as well, but remember you have 4 votes!!  They are some  other good persons running in Bodden Town, even though they are PPM.  Remember Alden is not running for Bodden Town.  Splitting the votes is your (and mine) democratic right.!!

      • Anonymous says:

        Wayne Panton has my vote!

        • Anonymous says:

I am amazed that so many people seem to have already decided who they vote for rather than waiting to see what the respective candidates stand for and hear about their take on important issues.

          • Anonymous says:

Cuz some idiots can’t learn …they keep voting for personality, friend, Sunday school affiliation other dumb reasons – instead of for a candidates actual position on national issues

These type of jokers consider it ‘good luck’ if a candidate – by chance- happens to takes a position the voter agrees with.

But this type of ignorant voter does not have a clue about any national issues. That’s why they are so gullible. So they blindly follow and agree with whatever their politicians tell them.

So, keep voting this stupid way – that’s exactly why we in the mess we are in now, following the biggest mouth to ” wote straight” – gave McKeeva a room full of his puppets and loyalists.

Scandal, allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement of disgraceful proportions, near -Uk takeover, unemployment through the roof, crime increasing and Cayman now international laughing-stock with continual negative press:

            So keep up unna stupidness!

  22. Anonymous says:

Why does a person get additional votes just because of where they live?
    Introduce single member constituencies now:

All voters should have equal rights!

    • Anonymous says:

Iagree.  We're registered in the district of West Bay and supposedly get 4 votes each?!?  Yet, it's unfortunate that there currently is a field of only 6 candidates and at least three of them should have been banned from politics as a consequence of their past action/inaction!  It would be helpful if the election office could list the profiles of all candidates that are running for election in May by district so that the electorate can keep abreast of all the new and old players and their backgrounds.  Currently, I'd rather spoil my ballot than cast an errant vote for some of these recidivists.

  23. Anonymous says:

No wonder julie extended the voters registration. She knew that there was some new Cayman Bracers out there that will vote for her. XXXX
