West Bay Road diversions continue
(CNS): Drivers will facefurther delays this coming week and into the following one as work on the tie-ins and access roads between West Bay Road and the Esterley Tibbetts Highway Extension continues. Again information about the work and traffic diversions came from Dart and not the National Roads Authority, the lawful agency which manages roads and traffic flow in Cayman. Dart said Friday, work would be continuing over the next two weeks on either side of the closed stretch of the West Bay Road but it expected to have completed work at Yacht Drive, Raleigh Quay and Governors Way by 2 April ending the temporary Lime Tree Bay diversions.
“Road works to complete the connection of Phase One of the highway extension to West Bay Road are scheduled to conclude over the next two weeks,” the developer stated in a notice.
Two southbound lanes are scheduled to open on Thursday March 28 ahead of the Easter weekend at Raleigh key but the two northbound lanes will not open until Easter Monday (1 April). The paving of the Yacht Drive Connection is scheduled for completion by Tuesday 2 April DRCL stated, along with the Governors Way Connection which is also scheduled to open Tuesday allowing traffic to flow on to the West Bay Road as far as Governor’s Way which marks the start of the stretch of land that government has given to Dart in a swap forming part of a deal which has still not been made public.
Although the road works have also interrupted the flow of traffic from West Bay Road and the junction of Yacht drive along the stretch of Seven Mile Beach popular with campers, government officials have confirmed that the public can continue to drive along that road and will be able to gain access to the beach this Easter.
So far there have been no new updates in connection with the two legal actions filed with the Grand Court seeking legal intervention over the closure as many local activists believe the closure of the West Bay Road is unlawful.

How long is the road from Governors Square north going to be closed? This goes way beyond the closures noted before. I could not get through several junctions today and it was very difficult to get to the beach – and I know the roads. Whilst there is some signage, a lot of it doesn't make sense. There were people (not tourists) driving on the right hand side of the road after they had to drive north to get to the big roundabout to go south!
“Another fantastic development”
It is already the best road in Cayman, and will only get better once finished. Enjoy something for a change people…and to be on the beach near Surfside/Public beach is a real pleasure..no noise, no fumes, no cars…brilliant!!
TWO-WHEELERS BEWARE!
There are hazards of loose gravel and pot holes at the junction portion and other torn up places waiting to take you down in front of that tailgater riding your a– who'll run over you if you go down, and you know none of these good people care.
I still can’t believe that the UDP and the UDP lite Goverment has given one man so much power! Guess they were to blinded by all those $$ signs! We need real independent minds so that one party does not have all the control! They have lost sight of what the Cayman Islands is all about! It’s about our people not being replaced my cheap labor, it is about our Children having the opportunity to study what they love, it is about our elderly not being forgotten and mostly about the Government informing the people of it’s plans and ideas before signing any deals that could affect us all!
So I just want to say to some others if you are or have been associated with the UDP we know who you are and trust me you won’t get in through the back door because you now call yourself Independent.
There are billboards with full developmwnt drawings at Public Beach where the Norceca event was hosted this weekend. It looks like it will be another fantastic development. Thank you Dart, looking forward to it!

King Dart however has promised to turn the sky above the Cayman Islands Blue and Green for the upcoming nomination day on March 27…more news at 11.
