Cop gets serious head injury
(CNS): An officer from the Uniform Support Group is in hospital in a serious condition after being struck in the head during a disturbance outside an East End bar in the early hours of Saturday morning. A police spokesperson said that the officer was hit by an object when police responded to a call about burning tyres and drug consumption at a party at the Pirates Cove Bar. Police were first called to the scene at around 10:21pm on Friday 22 March. Officers from the Eastern Districts found a party was in progress at the bar and that there were in excess of 100 patrons in attendance. When the Officers returned to the police vehicle they found both of the front tyres had been punctured.
They called for additional officers from the Uniform Support Group, who were deployed to the scene and at around 1:42am an officer was knocked out after being struck with an object to the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he was admitted and underwent emergency surgery. The RCIPS said the police officer remains hospitalized in a stable but serious condition.
Detectives from Bodden Town Police Station CID are now conducting an investigation following the incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220 or CRIME STOPPERS at 800-8477 (TIPS)

Drove past this place twice on Sunday. First I noticed all the cars and the burnout strips on the road. Place looked packed, matching shirts maybe a dominoes event. On the way back there was a police car out front, cars everywhere, people just hanging out, hundreds of them. It was a mess and I would not have wanted to be any part of that scene.
Soo sorry that it happened..
BUT, do RCIPS expect to get any repect when they have NO relationship with the Ending + NorthSide communities?
These 2 stations are closed + not even manned — just 'patrols' form the BoddenTown station…
Pay attention people – these are our most fragile communities, and may just be the litmus paper for the crime element!
That bar is a nightmare!! Always druggies there & drunks. Don't know how half of them afford it as they don't work. Ooops silly me forgot………………DRUGS! Don't know how the people that live around that bar actually want to stay there must be dreadful. I agree make the owner responsible as he/she know who's who & what's what!
So does that mean then that you frequent there as well? hhhmmm wonder how you know, it must be that you are there on a regular basis because there is no way you can just be passing and see a crowd of people there and assume they are ll druggies – I have never used any form of drug and I have been there enjoying the nice comedic atmosphere and a few pints of beer.
Dont blame it on Canada dude!
Please talk what you know! That bar is one of the most well run bar on the island. It is owned by a young Caymanian who dont stand around and take XXXX from anyone that try to smoke ganja or start problems on the premisis (actually they are a few that are band from the bar). Yes, there was a party going on but at no time was there a "Riot". The officer sustained his injuries across the road from the bar, not on the premises. The owner can not be held responsible for the little idiots that stand/hangout on the public road.
We, the responsible Eastenders, wish the officer a speedy recovery.
It’s sad to know that some foolish person or persons would comit such senseless acts, not only slashing the tyres for the Police vehicle but injuring a Police Officer. Do they realize that these are the people who are the first responders to crime. There mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, or friend….the list goes on and on….could have been calling 911 and needed assistance from the same officers who may have been the nearest units availble and who maybe could have saved a life but instead would have been stuck with a vehicle that couldnt move and an Officer down. Education is the key… It’s too bad there are so any illiterate people here! I hope YOU are caught and dealt with to the full extent of the law!
this country is a powder keg, ready to blow;
social discord
no natural justice
inept/corrupt police
unemployment
drugs
money
hatred
racism
you name it we got it.
Boom!
Which is why we need more gated communities urgently.
it is indeed shameful what happened to that police officer. Our prayers are for his recovery and for these Islands that are heading in the wrong direction. What happened is inexcusable!
Close down the establishment . For good.
Why should a local business owner have to suffer for the behavior of his patrons? Shutting the place down once and for all would not be the best way to go about rectifying situations like this. If this bar is a repeat offender for situations like this, then take away their liquor license, or use it as an area that police can round up drunk and disorderly citizens or individuals who are drunk in public, or attempting to drive under the influence. There are other options than just actually shutting the whole bar down, that might be the owners only source of income – hardly fair to them.
Close it down and they will only find another hang out spot, so that suggestion bears no solution to the problem.
Proving once again that anything can happen in the land of the cowcod.
To the person that said that he should have had the "Good Lord looking out for him so that he didn't get hit in the head with a rock" should probably confess now and save us some money. I did not read anything in the article here that stated what he was hit with nor did I see whether or not he had protective gear, either. Perhaps some of the "posters" are embellishing a bit when they assume facts not in evidence. But that is the problem with many articles we see on here.
According to reports received by the Caymanian Compass, the officer was struck in the head with a rock during an altercation at an East End bar.
THis was the first reprt so I think you should read before accusing. And no matter what he was hit with at the endof the day the "Good Lord" should have been looking out for him so that he didn't get hit in the head. No one is embelishing "just stating facts and opinion" NOT LIKE YOURSELF!!!!
Just responding to the article as written on CNS. No embellishment on my part. Just like rumour and innuendo twist most people's versions. Did not read the Compass and I was not replying as such. Perhaps you are the one stating opinion when you state that the good Lord was not looking out for him, because I believe that he might have been, and the officer was not killed. But then again, I am not the one answering with news from another source other than the one I was responding to.
A simple solution: Make the bar owner responsible. They know who the trouble makers are in the area.
hopefully it ends well for the officer , they have helmets why don’t they use them in these situations , simple precautions can save lots of grief. and 4:26 the USA needs help getting rid of their bad boys they have over 3000 known gangs.
If you want to live in a place where the police routinely wear helmets 24/7 then please feel free to book a flight to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Let me know how that works for you.
The piece of scum that threw the rock is a coward who will be caught and thrown in jail. No doubt the officer's back was turned when the rock was thrown. Cowardly scum. Wishing a speedy and full recovery to the officer in question.
I wish this police officer a full and complete recovery. This sounds like a gruesome attack on the officer. I hope the lowlife is caught ASAP, charged with attempted murder and locked up for a long time.
What is happening to the youth of our country? There seems to be no respect for authority anymore in all districts.
Xpat
It’s east end. May not be a youth.
I pray the officer recovers well and the perpatrator is found and arrested. … I do hope that this event is not a prelude for officers to now start disrupting parties and harrassing people. Just because a few mess it up for the many, the many shouldn't suffer. This island becomes very boring especially for the young when there is nothing going on. … what I think we need is better places for young people to enjoy themselves. I notice the social places are all about drinking alcohol… why???
A better place? How about prison.
If they want to live life in the fast lane maybe they should be forced to go (i.e. deported citizenship notwithstanding) to join a gang in the US or Jamaica and wait to get shot there instead of bothering us law-abiding citizens. That would be more exciting for them, it gets them away from us, and we could spend the money otherwise wasted on policing and warehousing these scumin a Cayman prison on something useful, like a fishing competition or a boat race or something. Win win I say – fun and excitement for them, security and monay for us. We just can't let them back, ever.
Because they have noticed that praying doesn't help.
Two hands working do more than a million clasped in prayer.
This is sad. This behaviour is intolerable and those responsible should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The police in Cayman dont have the full support of the legal arm of government, I would put my head on a goiten that the person who comitted this crime is probably on bail, East End has too many repeated offenders that need to be put away for good.
I think its hightime we put a three strikes and your out law on the book it's the only way to deter these punks, Im sick and tire hearing about human rights, lock these punks up and throw the keys away.
The govenor need to take the public's safety more seriuos and amend these laws. Stop the tit for tat and keep these punks behind bars when they commit a offence, f@#k the human rights, public safety first.
I agree about the three strikes and you are out but not until they fix the broken prison system including privatization something that has worked very well in other jurisdictions and until we are assured that they must work while in prison doing work that our government currently contracts out for. At the moment a prison sentence is a joke, free meals, shelter, free medical care, plenty of drugs, tv, radio, plenty of friends visit and plot more crime. For the juvenile offenders mom and dad pay up you chose not to look after your children so you get to foot the bill for their lock up when a crime is committed and being even more radical if you commit murder your life is forfeited, rape, castration will at least solve part of the problem. And do not forget gender equality women are not immune to the same hard labour and punishments. We should all be happy we aren’t in countries where stoning is still practiced as in this case it would fit the crime!
Dad?
Tourists……demand all inclusive resorts that are surrounded by razor wire and armed guards (assuming that the guards can be trusted…..hmmmmmm just pay them a lot).
Sad, what has become of this wonderful island.
If the tourist are staying in east end, they’re adventure tourist anyway.
sounds like a saturday night in ontario. just sayin
Why wasn’t the officer in riot gear? Didnt we the tax payers paid already for these equipment? Get well officer and I hope we catch the culprit and let them do some time.
Where in the news report does it say that there was a riot in East End? I am sure if the officers had shown up with riot gear it would be a different story, people would be complaining about why police come there with riot gear when their is only a party going on and no one was rioting. You should think before you speak. I hope and pray that the officer recover from his injuries.
As a general rule you do not respond to a call of disorderly conduct in full blown riot gear, now if the dispatcher messed up and knew it was a riot and did not dispatch as such that is a reasonable question to ask, however when officers go in to some of these areas they are under gorilla warfare approach, the local citizens have watchers and will protect their own and therein lies the bulk of the problem. Little Bobby or Suzy didn’t mean no harm they are good people they just lose their temper when they get to drinking but they go to church they good at heart he he he…..these coppers are framing them….etc etc. It is like wrestling an octopus fighting crime here, not that it can’t be done but there needs to be some shifting in attitudes for sure.
Guys Guys Guys let's pick sense out of nonsense here, how can Arden Mclean (MLA for East end) get the XXXX end of the stick for this. I know Election is coming up and one would say and do anything to get a seat in office but pointing fingers at Arden for this is a low blow. Above comment mention Arden did nothing to stop crime in the district but you have to ask yourself "what have you done to stop it" we have to stop sitting around sucking on fingers waiting for MLA's to get it all done, Remember this is our Island too not only the MLA's so Let's not point fingers when something is not done becuse you did nothing to get it done either.. Sign: Born East ender [x]
I’m guessing that you were actually born in Town.
They say charity begins at home and some of those who are running Arden down need to begin to look after their own children first before taking on the challenge of looking after the people of the district, don't you think? Anyone been looking at the names on the Grand Court list for the last couple of months?
Anon at 17:04, 17:17 and 17:19… you're not fooling anyone posting three times in a row.
Let's keep this Police officer in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery. This was the act of a coward who used the cover of darkness of perpetrate this foul and evil deed. It behooves the Elected representative of East End and ALL those who would stand for election in that district to ENSURE that the spineless coward(s) who are behind this savage attack are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent that can be brought to bear by the DPP. Mr. Baines, you don't get off so easily, it is time you issued your officers with proper gear to deal with unruly crowd control situations and instituted guidelines regarding their required use. This officer's injury could have possibly been much less, if he had a proper hard helmet to put on when responding to back up those other officers who had called for assistance.
Lets see some action from the action man. Have him talk on Rooster super tuesday about east end violence and his answers to the yob behavior.
He will probably have the same thoughts as you and I – shocked – he cannot control anyone’s thoughts so stop this political blame game crap – these are unruly young people under the influence who were pissed off that their party was interrupteed – there will always be that “what if” after the fact and that’s just life – now the incident will be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrator(s) brought to justice hopefully and guess what – life goes on..
This is a single member constituency and Arden is the responsible action man so he needs to step up and show us what he is made of. There is no one he can hide behind.
East End violence against police may mean nothing to you but it is a big deal to most law abiding citizens.
One incident and everyone is blaming the MLA for East End, really? Remember nobody has been caught or named as the perpetrator so be careful of what you wish for, it could be your son locked up for this.
Oh it must have been a foreigner that slashed the police tires and seriously injured the officer doing his duty.
Anyone's son should go to jail for this, don't you know that?
I doubt that the culprit voted for Arden. This person more than likely aligns himself with people who believe that police harass and arrest their innocent candidates.
hooligans
Welcome to the new Cayman. People, stay inside with your doors locked after the sun goes down. It's not safe here anymore.
Just saw Mclean’s add on CNS top left I see he says Justice!!!!!! Lets see what he does to assist solve this.
In case people are overlooking the troll button, I will just say it: TROLL!
What is the basis for your troll comment, Arden is the single member of the LA for that area and as such should do something. So get over it.
What do you want him to do….go stand at every bar every night to slap the hands of bad boys….
Well no that would require that he take his business away where all the cronies hang out at near the airport but he could spread his business around a bit.
Oh I forgot Arden doesn't live in East End.
Let's see what the EE MLA has to say about this, probably nothing…. He needs to use all his contacts to find out who did this , then hand this person over to the police… XXXX
Did you demand the same from the former premier and minister Anglin to investigate crimes in WB and ensure the criminals were brought to justice or are these comments politically motivated? I don’t remember reading any?
Yes i did, an i am not a PPM or UDP peson.. just feel that when you have such a serious crime happens in the our district our MLA should be the first on the road asking questions, oh and by the way if i knew who did this or hung out at this bar and could find out who did this i would and i would calll the police and let them know…!!
I am NOT defending East Enders and this could have very well been someone who lives in the district BUT I think we all need to wait for an investigation to be completed before pointingfingers. I went to the little shop directly across from the bar on Friday night around 10 pm and I saw a lot of people who are not from East End. Whether they are from EE, WB, GT etc. they should be held accountable for this and be prosecuted to the full extent.
Or may be challenger can prove his mettle by stepping up to the plate. How about it Johnnie?
I want to here from the East End MLA regarding this, he if is against crime and a true leader he will use his contacts and find out who did this as well as a public announcement saying how disgraceful these people are. Oh forgot he don’t care all he wants is the salary, he has done nothing about crime in our area over the last 8yrs, in fact he has never done anything about crime…
Joey – keep your ranting to facebook
And what have you "done about crime" in your area?
The MLA is not superman!! and neither is he the savior of all your problems. Get over this mentality that politicians supposed to baby-sit your ass and do everything for you and solve it all.
It sounds ignorant and stupid when people like you get on this site and turn to or blame politicians for not having control over the personal lives of everyone.
The funny thing is, IF any politician turned in one of your children, or any other child for that matter, most of the parents will hate them for it and vote against them for hurting their "baby".
Keep sending unarmed police officers. Also whatever happened to the "costly" K9 Unit? Don't hear nothing nothing about that anymore. The dogs will be retiring soon. lol lol lol
Had to bring in a banded breed, for what? Just to prove you can…..
The injured officer was from teh Uniform Support Group. Those are the armed officers.
Yea, so! what should they have done, start shooting into the crowed and then ask questions later?
Works in South Africa.
so what would you do and what have you done in the past to make these Islands a safer place?
Ah, the high standard of social behavior at work.
They weren’t at work. It was an after work party. Different standards apply.
The high command is to be blamed.
NO, the people to blame are the arseholes who see violence and a total disregard for the Law, as a way of life. In the long run, the only people to suffer will be those in EE in the tourist industry, when foreign visitors cross that district off their ” To Visit ” list. Can anybody imagine the reaction of a few tourists who had thought – ” we’re in the Caribbean, let’s enjoy an evening at a ” local ” bar ” – and ended up embroiled in this sort of shit. What woud they tell their friends when they got home ?
Whilst I agree this is unacceptable, but that alone would not deter most tourist because crime and violence is the norm where most of them come from. Have you been around a group of drunken and disorderly tourists? Well I have and believe me, its off the chain what some of them get up to after consuming a little caribbean kush and a few pints of liquid courage. Stop blaming the politician for people’s behavior, who has control over another person’s thoughts? No one but themselve and that’s why we have a court system and a prison.
Yes, we do have a Court system and a Prison, but by the time this sort of incident has reached that stage – somebody could be dead, or at the least maimed – at which point our systems are of little comfort to the victim(s). And I certainly was not blaming politicians.
taze the ungodly heathens or admit they're 'heritage'
And people say that all the $hit happens in West Bay ?? Time for "Big mouth from the East" to use his "hot steam" and get all of his boy's in proper order in East End. These "Sessions", regardless if they are near or at a liquor license premises, should have been shut down from earlier in the evening. From the time police vehicle tires were cut up around 10:30pm, it should have been shut down. My hopes are that the USG officer who was seriously injured, make a full and speedy recovery.
If this incident happened directly upon the liquor license premises as it would appear from this article, it should be reported to the "Chairman of the Liquour License Board" and their liquor license should be pulled for at least 3 – 6 months immediately. If there is another serious re-occurance, they the license should be pulled for 9 -12 months and any future incidents thereafter, be revoked indefinitely.
you idiot, how can you blame the mla for this.and how can you close a license establishment because someone damaged a police vehicle, which was parked on public road.think before you open your mouth/fingers/??? your are just playing politricks.they went there around 10, as far as i know on fridays they can open until 1,at least
Unfortunately, the facts of this incident are not being conveyed properly to the public. The officer was NOT on the property of the Bar. He was across the road, as were several other who were not customers/patrons of the bar that evening. How can a property owner be held accountable for the actions of people not on his/her property? It is completely ridiculous to blame the owner or say that their liquor license should be pulled. Get the facts straight before making judgements.
Caymankind, must be proud
Punks! Please look after our good Cop Lord!
The Good Lord should have been looking out for him so that he didn't get hit in the head with a rock!!!
Charge each and every one of these scumbags with riot and send them away for a long long time.
Where ar the new tasers? Swat team? Time for outside help, it's just getting worse without any relief in sight. Need to wipe these bad boys out, Cayman? The USA would be more than happy to send a team down to wipe these bad boys out. After few days and…….poof! Gone! Target practice……………
