$50k reward offered for info on injured cop case
(CNS): A reward of $50,000 is on offer for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the assault of a police officer in East End last weekend. The officer, who is a member of the Uniform Support Group, received a serious head injury while monitoring a crowd attending a party at the Pirates Cove Bar in the early hours of Saturday morning. Although a teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident, the investigation continues and Cayman Crime Stoppers has launched an official appeal for anybody with information to come forward to help the RCIPS find the culprits.
The officer, who was hit in the head by what is understood to have been a stone or some other object thrown at around 1:45am, remains in a serious condition at the Cayman Islands Hospital in the critical care unit.
Cayman Crime Stoppers said the cash reward came from special funds put forward by the Cayman Islands Government for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any persons for murder, robbery or other serious or gun-related crimes.
Malcolm Ellis, Cayman Crime Stoppers Chairman, appealed to members of the public to call the Cayman Crime Stoppers tip line with any information at all regarding this incident. “The CaymanCrime Stoppers tip line guarantees callers’ absolute anonymity,” Ellis said. “Calls are answered by our call centre in Miami and callers are never asked to disclose their details, so there is no way they can be traced or identified by name,” he said.
Cayman Crime Stoppers is able to offer a reward for information which proves valuable in solving a crime. Callers are given a unique code which they can use to make a claim but they never have to disclose their identity. The Cayman Crime Stoppers tips line is 800-TIPS (that is, 800 8477). Tips may also be submitted anonymously through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppers.ky.

Remember the last time CI$50K was put on offer by Crime Stoppers? That was when an RCIPS cruiser was allegedly shot up on Shedden Road in late 2009. It's still odd that incident was never resolved. Or is it?
FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS??? I understand that the police are trying to appeal to anyone who has information.. but seriously, in these economic times $1,000.00 would be enough to get information out of me. And then people wonder why the government so broke!
I see the RCIPS bloggers are out – but while dropping the hammer on East End, remember that there is no RCIPS officer here – the station in closed, and therefore there is NO RCIPS relationship with the peple of that district – AND also in North Side.

Arrest them all. All 100. Close down the bar. Enforce the law. Stop permitting breaches of the law and give the 50K to the officer who took one for the team and should never have had to.
Why should they arrest them all and close down the bar ? What part of "It did not happen on the bar premises" do you not understand and it didn't take all of them to throw the rock or whatever it was. It is my understanding they have arrested someone in connection to the offense. The young man who runs this bar is very good at keeping the rabble rousers off the premises and does not hesitate to call the police himself if necessary.
Alright, the bar can stay open. The others who were gathered illegally and refused lawful orders to disperse, should be arrested.
What utter nonsense ! arrest 100 people, charge them all really? wait until you or one of your family members or child/children are in a crowd and someone decides to do something as stupid as this and everyone gets blamed and or charged how would you feel being wrongly accused? It was absolutely wrong for this to have happened I agree but who ever is responsible will be caught its only a matter of time – people always talk.
When you are part of a crowd where there is drug use, causing disturbances, asked to disburse by the police and then refuse to do so, resulting in back up having to be called and than subsequent attacks on the police and damage to property, arrest seems a perfectly appropriate response.
Was it an unlawful gathering?
Was marijuana being openly consumed?
Were tires set alight?
Was a police vehicle vandalized?
Did the police ask the crowd to disperse several times?
Did the crowd disburse?
Was a police officer doing his job then almost killed?
Anyone still there after the police asked them to disburse should be arrested! Cayman has to return to a land where there are consequences for illegal behavior. Right now the only one suffering a consequence is the policeman. You content with that? You sicken me!
When will we take responsibility for our actions? I am tired of the blame game. The bar is the problem and needs to be closed. As if the bar threw the rock and injured the officer, as if the bar slashed the tires on the cop car. Fellow caymanians, let’s quit blaming third parties or things for our wrongdoing. Every issue in this country is blamed on others. The fault here is with the person who injured the officer, period.
The issues we have are continuously blamed on dart, expats, the uk, the school facilities, the governor, the 3000 grants, the economy, the politicians and the list goes on. Let’s start taking responsibility for our actions, our careers, our education once and for all.
