Vandals slash PPM campaign posters
(CNS): In the latest act of political sabotage, the new campaign posters put up this week by the PPM in the area of Watler’s Road, George Town community area have been vandalized. The PPM have made no accusations about who may have slashed the posters, which have been cut along the throats of the GT candidates' pictures, but said they were sadden by the wanton act of vandalism. The PPM now joins Ezzard Miller and Winston Connolly as targets of political sabotage after Miller's poster on Frank Sound Road was defaced and Winston Connolly’s banner was stolen from Linford Pierson. The vandalism may well be the work of young pranksters rather than political opponents but the damage to the Progressives' poster seems more ominous than the previous acts.
Nevertheless, the act is unlikely to derail what the leader has described as the “Progressive Express” after the party’s successful national campaign launch on Wednesday night.
With the UDP splintered and facing an uphill struggle, given that the former premier and party leader, McKeeva Bush, has been charged with criminal offences, the PPM is focusing its campaign battle on the Coalition for Cayman’s candidates in George Town.
The Progressives are hammering home the message that what it describes as the “newly birthed C4C party” efforts to convince Caymanians that only a coalition government is neededto bring Cayman into the future is misguided.
“You may hear that we, the Progressives, are trying to scare voters. That could not be farther from the truth,” said Alden McLaughlin, Leader of the Progressives Party. “That makes me angry, to be honest with you. What the Progressives stand for is an opportunity to turn this country around, to move away from corruption, the head in the sand mentality that has permeated our government for the last four years.”
McLaughlin said that the backlash against party politics is misplaced and is a ploy to trick the voters of Cayman into thinking that a select group of elected MLAs will somehow come together and form a government with a coherent and cohesive voice. He said this is misleading as it takes a strong elected party structure with policies in place to form a functioning administration without deals and compromises on principle.
“Party politics is not for the meek,” said Kurt Tibbetts, the formerleader of government business and the founding leader of the PPM. “We have a vision for the Cayman Islands that is progressive, prosperous and for a full participatory democracy renowned for its resilience and resourcefulness.”
While the C4C says it wants to see people working together for the sake of Cayman, that is exactly what genuine party politics is about — a team of like-minded people coming together because they share common beliefs which they will shape into policy once in office.
“Politics is a numbers game, but the Progressives are not playing with the future of Cayman,” said McLaughlin. “If you don’t have at least ten MLAs working towards common goals, then you don’t have a government, and we have lived through enough the past four years to know that we need strong leadership for the future of Cayman.”

Are we surprise senior civil servants feel they are above the law.these matters should be thoroughly invesitigated and them prosecute .
Election Officials need to reming certain senior government officials who are attending political meeting along with political associates and family members that is could be seen has giving political support to ceratin candidates and gives the appearance of bias. this type of conduct and behavior should not be tolerated and they should know better?????
Civil Servants are allowed to attend Political meetings, didnt you get the memo? They are voters too!
I also note that the UDP erected a sign in Spotts exactly where the PPM has started to put up their sign. The PPM then moved their sign down the road and lo and behold Chris and Theresa have now changed their sign to make it much bigger so that it blocks the PPM sign. Do those 2 UDP jokers really belive the size of their sign is going to make any difference ? They are not getting in in BT I can tell you than much, they are a continuation of the UDP influence on these islands and we do not want anythign to do with Mackeeva or the UDP in Bodden Town.
Chris and Thresea will both win in BT just wait and see central BT no longer accounts for majority of the votes, neither does Savannah consists of a few families these are indeed interesting times.

With all the sign damages that is currently going on, I beg the question does the CCTV working? If not the people needs answers as a lot of money was spent on equipment and a lot of promises made I.e. crime would be reduced. Several years later crime is worst and still no sign that cameras are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
Honestly, who really cares about these signs?
Just curious given the size of all these signs are they exempt from planning permission? If not did they all get planning permission and pay the necessary fees? Also if they are erected on private property can that be deemed some sort of vote buying if the person who owns the property doesn’t pay for the sign themselves….I’m so confused by the regulations and what applies and doesn’t apply at any given moment.
Also sincerely hope no more than 24 hours after the elections all of the signs come down our roads are cluttered enough with useless signage.
They get special permission…. for obvious reasons. Too bad this is the most ineffective and outdated way to get voters…nevermind the fact that they're hideous. And would be illegal if done by anyone else.
If CIG had invested the money they donated too those churches, they would have been in a position to erect and install the well need cctv cameras all over the three islands making it easy to catch the culprits and solve other rising crimes like burglaries, robberies, thefts etc.! This is just so ridiculous!
We've already paid for the CCTV system, and probably twice what it actually cost!

It's out of control. I did see the devils beard on Ezzards poster. Now looking around someone has put a big 70's moustache on ALL of Bo's posters, they have penciled something in on Kenny Bryan's chin, And worst of alllooks they have given all 5 PNA candidates the appearance of a finely groomed upper lip.
On all counts these actions are sickening. However, interesting enough when Winston’s sign was stolen i read cns comments to the tune of C4C did it to get attention. However no such comments were made for the ppm sign vandalism. Hmmmmm, wonder whose posting conspiracy theories on these boards?

I am not a c4c member as I will support some ppm members like Moses and independents like Bo but we need to go past conspiracy theories and hear solutions.
I don't think it's any "Party against Party" vandalism… I think it's just people who think the sites are an eye soar and annoying to look at. I wish all of them were gone, they're all equally as ugly.

Add to that the fact that the PPM is going to sweep them clean and the price becomes more reasonable.
Fear of losing can certainly bring out some voilent reactions in people. God alone knows what they are afraid of losing, except 'free' handouts and 'free' 'welfare' checks maybe? Guess what folks, better start looking jobs for yourselves, because your 'throats' are most definitely going to be 'cut' come May 22nd.

These posters are an eyesore. Smug candidates squeezed into ill-fitting suits, all trying hard to look statesmanlike. We didn’t ask for them to be put up by the side of every road, so I for one am happy to see them vandalized. Best political statements of the campaign so far.

1′ The larger the posters, the less chance I will vote for you…
2, if your poster is vandalized, your chance of my vote goes up as I certainly won’t vote for the pathetic morons on the other side who I presume did the damage…
Now everyone is going to go out and cut up thier own signs for brownie points..

when one party is in power they don't listen to no one and whether it is good or bad the party members follow.. we seen this with the UDP and PPM.. let's have a coalition government!
To be honest, a good balanced Government will have to consist of some PPM members and Arden, Ezzard and a few other TRUE independents.
Between Ezzard and Arden's mouth, no one will be able to do any corrupt deals, without the two of them calling them out in the public forum.
If we end up with a Government formed with UDP/PNA/Indipendent = UDP old dirty ways, we will be no better off for it.
