Candidate forums return but Bush absent from list

| 26/04/2013

mac good.jpg(CNS): Following a week’s break Cayman’s Chamber of Commerce will resume its district candidate forums on Monday night in the capital. Jonathan Piercy and Rayal Bodden from the UDP will be facing off against PPM candidates Marco Archer and Joseph Hew along with C4C4 candidate Jacqueline Haynes and independent candidate Dr Frank McField. Although the Progressive’s leader, Alden McLaughlin will be making an appearance on the Chamber platform on Tuesday night when the forum will be in George Town for the second night running the UDP leader McKeeva Bush is absent from the West Bay list for the final forum on Thursday night.

With Cline Glidden who is running on the PNA ticket, PPM candidates Ray Farrington and Capt. Bryan Ebanks as well as C4C candidate Tara Rivers in attendance the appearance of Bush could have made for a lively forum. However, the UDP leader will be one of just a handful of candidates that have not appeared on the forum platform.

    Definition of debate:

A formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward.

In the UDP there is no such thing as anyone opposing Mac, so he is not experienced in, or interested in subjecting himself to a debate, ever.

I guess he and the rest of UDP only feel comfortable on the Joey Show – even though the theme song for the show says "I'm not afraid…"

  3. St Peter says:

Mac looks so 'caught' in that photo…

  4. Anonymous says:

FYI the rest of the UDP candidates: Jonathan Piercy, Rayal Bodden, Renard Moxam and Walling Whittaker also pulled out of the remaining GT forums.

    Makes you think, huh?

    • Anonymous says:

Any list they missing from is a good list..

    • Diogenes says:

And Renard pulled out of the Rooster debate this morning, tho Jonathan obviously didn't get the instruction in time!

  5. WHAT !!!!!!! says:

May 22 the real voters is what you all can count on no bus load from EE can help GT and no bus load from WB can help BT neither can CYB fly anyone too NS to help Joey try win a seat. Like what the Jamaicans say they all pun them own that day.

Mac has no class. Facing such serious charges and yet he still seeks office. Most people would have tried to get those behind them first. But no not him! He is gambling with the thoughts that he might be able to intimidate the authorities in the judical system?

      Innocent until proven guilty!

      • Anonymous says:

UDP supporters seems to have no understanding that the presumption of innocence is irrelevant in a political context where the reputation of the country is at stake. In any major western democracy persons (like McKeeva and Joey Ebanks) running for public office while facing criminal trials for serious criminal offences would be unthinkable.  Think of the tailspin it would put this country in if McKeeva were once more appointed as Premier and then go through 2- 3 years of a criminal trial while the world watches!  How could he possibly perform the duties of office? Anyone who supports McKeeva in this election is putting his/her interests before the interests of their own country. And there are some, like Theresa Lewis-Pitairnwhom I would otherwise support, who should know better.

Maybe its because he lost his Govt-driver? The buses still run mac

  8. Anonymous says:

Maybe he will be absent from the candidates who are successful May 23, 2013!!!!!!! That would we a hard pill to swallow for the kool aid drinkers!

  9. Anonymous says:

it must be a challenge for someone of a "my way or the highway" ilk to actually have to listen to somebody else's opinion, so not really surprised at his absence. It really is over for him this time.

I really hope the West Bayers all wake up and see the light. Mckeeva Bush is a coward, he cannot sit in a decent controlled forum and answer the questions. If he cannot be in charge and controlling people, he cannot participate. He is a coward. At lease the 2 breakaways Rollie and CG are facing the public, just about every day. West Bayers please learn from this and do the right thing on May 22, 2013. If i was in West Bay I would vote those 2 and 2 PPm, they are putting their faces out there to the public and giving solutions.

    • Anonymous says:

And if Mac gets back in he will put pressure on those two to bend yet again!  NO more UDP or anyone that looks like they might lean their way.  That is the only solution.

If those two could not stand up to him before, chances are, he WILL put them in their place again.

Maybe he thinks he already gets enough CREDIT for his time on office.
    See what I did again?

  12. Anonymous says:

Maybe he doesn’t want to GAMBLE with his already high standing in the comunity.
    See what I did there?

  13. Anonymous says:

Booooyyyy, Mac must be really 'fraid now!

  14. St Peter says:

Maybe they are aiming for intelligent debate – therefore it is appropriate that Bush is excluded…

  15. Anonymous says:

What I find more disgusting is that his case has been adjourned till after the elections to allow him to destroy the country even more.

Dont worry, dont you have a good CHRISTIAN woman running the country now?

  16. Anonymous says:

No class? Na, me thinks he travelling, Gone to them casinos. Hope he have cash.

  17. Anonymous says:

Bush thinks that he has already won and sworn in as premier,

  18. Anonymous says:

He would show if it was a shouting match.

  19. Anonymous says:

Actually Bush has been absent for four years now.

  20. WHAT !!!!!!! says:

All mouth Mac for everything else. Now no show coward for the real issues. Before I forget Mac got up on TV and said he was thanking the 2000 people that came out to there meeting at ALT what a LIE he just jealous that PPM has been carrying the biggest crowd of real people who can vote on May 22..Just curious why the cameras kept skipping the right side of where all those empty seats were hahaha you think if 2000 people were there any seats would be empty I came across to see for my self and the right side still had plenty plenty empty seats WHY????? And now they got one lil foo foo video on facebook that doing the same thing cant show the right side where the empty seats were right up until the end..UDP u going down this year from the captain to the crook.

    • Anonymous says:

I was at the forum and there were hundreds of people standing around – you can't judge the crowd by empty seats – you judge by the actual numbers of persons – and there were at least 1,500 in attedance that evening.

    • Anonymous says:

I was at both the PPM and UDP kickoff meetings. I don’t think either party had 2000 people in attendance but can confirm that the UDP had more people (not voters) at their meeting.

      • Anonymous says:

Not so at all but even so hwats the point of having them if they're only there for handouts?

      • Anonymous says:

The PPM didn't lie and claim that they had 2000 people at their launch.

      • Anonymous says:

Not so at all but even so whats the point of having them if they're only there for handouts?

      • Anonymous says:

Yeah, we came for the laughs and we were hoping for more free turkey

    • Anonymous says:

PPM carrying the biggest crowd? What a joke!! You'll see who is carrying the biggest crowd come May 22nd.

      • Anonymous says:

Yes, we will and it won't be UDP! I am being generous by suggesting UDP may get 5 seats, tops.

    • Anonymous says:

2000?  I heard it was less than 200!  But then again if his figures are anything like his handle on finances and the budget…. well that explains it all!

  21. Anonymous says:

His absence from the forums shows his lack of  class.

    • Anonymous says:

He showed his lack of class long before the Chamber came up with the idea of a forum.

      • Anonymous says:

Why keep beating up on Bush when JU jU is worsa dan em. If you all wa smart you woudda have found somebody to take her out . We Braccas no hav no choice.

        • Anonymous says:

Sure you Braccas have a choice, vote for Moses and David Bodden. You could easily vote JuJu out!

    • Anonymous says:

He feels that he does not need to appear in order to get re-elected.

      He might be correct.

      • Anonymous says:

Sadly, you are probably right. The kind of people who will automatically vote for Mac are not interested in intelligent debate at a forum. Their votes are already guaranteed because their minister of religion endorsed Mac or they have been told that they will lose their benefits if they do not vote him back in, or they have been "helped" in other ways. Those of us who are interested in intelligent debate need to make sure that we all come out and listen and vote accordingly on May 22nd.

This comes as no surprise to me and I am sure to many others. It is time to wind down his career and move on to early retirement where he can enjoy fishingand telling stories about those good old days.He will be well remembered I am sure.
