Governor’s office takes to social media

| 03/06/2013

gov office facebook (248x300) (248x300).jpgCNS): The governor’s office has officially entered the social media world with the creation of a Facebook page. In addition to its website, which is part of the UK government’s FCO webpages, the office has set up its own social media portal and officials said it would soon be followed by a twitter account. The Facebook page shows the office team and variousphotos of the local activities that the governor and his team are involved with, such as the recent 'stand-up to bullying' day, which was part of Child Month. As well as important information, such as the latest on hurricane preparedness, the Facebook page gives users a chance to comment.

Encouraging people to comment, the office also asks that “followers adhere to certain good practices and conventions of polite and constructive discourse,” on the page, which is open for comment from anyone who likes the page.

The Facebook page gives a more localized and informal view of the office compared to the main UK based official website, which has now been revamped, which as well as covering passports, visa and travel advice, has news from the FCO.

See the new facebook page here.

Where are the caymanian employees in the office????

    • Whodatis says:

Why would they want Caymanians employed at the UK-appointed Governor's office in the Cayman Islands?

That would suggest they are part and parcel of this community with our ultimate welfare of paramount concern at all times.

Surely you are not that foolish, are you?

Oh Whysoangry, we have missed you.

      • Camaniam says:

I have frequently seen the Governor wandering around at Market at the Grounds and other local venues, chatting with locals and without a bodyguard. I have never seen our former Premier do that.

That might suggest to a reasonable person that he is more are part and parcel of this community than our former elected leader.

Surely you are not that blinded by your prejudice, are you?

        • Whodatis says:

          I hear you.

However, our former Premier is also not the local representative of the entity that triedits dire best to destroy the very lifeblood of this community and economy (“broader revenue income / tax base”). In fact, unlike the governor, stood up to that entity quite forcefully, albeit controversially.

Feel free to be assured by way of a man frolicking through the local market as he squeezes mangoes and kisses babies … be that fool.

Some of us are able to see the bigger picture.

Oh Whysosmug, how can we possibly become as wise and perfect as you?

          • Anonymous says:

I guess you missed the bit where Bush tried to introduce direct taxation. If anyone came  close to destroying the " lifeblood of this community and economy" it was most certainly one of your own.

Far from seeing the bigger picture, your blind prejudice against all things British narrows your vision so that all you see is whatever supports your preconceived views.

          • Anon says:

He's not? If memory serves me correct a little over a year ago he tried to implement an expat only payroll tax.

The whole idea that McKeeva is our champion against the UK (and if you follow the conspiracy theory they are therefore out to get him) is farcical.

          • Whodatis says:

To the respondents of my previous post:

Yes, I am fully aware of the proposed "expat tax", hence my reference to the controversy of the former Premier's stance towards the UK's suggestion of "finding a wider tax base".

(Orare we suggesting that he just pulled that tactic out of his ass one day … with no context whatsoever?)

It is called calling one's bluff – which is exactly what he did.

(For the record, I did not support his proposal at the time as can be evidenced by CNS archives as well as my postings on other social media websites.)

As for my supposed "blind prejudice" against the UK I will simply say this; I know British colonial history.

I am sorry, but no CNS poster can negate certain facts and realities via a few cynical words. However, I suppose you guys can band together and "thumbs down" to thy kingdom come … so adorable.

            Today is not yesterday.

            • Anonymous says:

How do you reconcile these 2 statements:  " I know British colonial history" and " Today is not yesterday"?

The irony is, that deeply prejudiced as you are, today is always yesterday for you when it comes to the UK.

              • Whodatis says:

Do you know the definition of prejudice?

Kindly breakdown to me why you so strongly believe me to be prejudiced?

                I await your reply.

There where busy putting out the trash.

  4. Rorschach says:

So, does this mean we are going to have another highly paid "consultant" who's only job will be to manage the social media page of the Governor's office??  What't next, Twitter??

    • Anonymous says:

No need for a consultant, I believe that is a dream job for thousands of young Caymanians. Just place the ad "Would you like a job working on Facebook all day?" and watch the potential employees come streaming in.

      • Rorschach says:

It may very well be a dream job, but this is CIG we're talking about..why hire a Caymanian when you can hire an overseas consutltant..after all, if it's from foreign, its always betta…
