Police said the man, named locally as Jordan Begley, "suffered a medical episode" after the Taser was used at about 20:15BST in Gorton on Wednesday. Paramedics tried to resuscitate the 23-year-old at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where he died. Greater Manchester Police have referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said: "Police received a 999 call reporting a disturbance on Beard Road in Gorton where there was a man with a knife. Officers were dispatched immediately and arrived in eight minutes. On arrival, a Taser was discharged to detain a 23-year-old man.”

"At this time it is unclear what happened, but at some point afterwards the man suffered a medical episode. Paramedics performed first aid on the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital where he sadly died," he added.

IPCC files show ten people have died following the police discharging a Taser.

Safer??????. They are less lethal in most cases. A firearm is safe. He could have justifiably bern shot with a bullet.

This is silly reporting.  I could find someone who chokes on gum too.  This BBC news stroy has no bearing on the Cayman Islands – so, we use tasers and they are deemed safe for 99% of the criminals they are used on

Sooo ugh….why don’t they just use “pepper ball” gus and “beanbag shotgun” rounds?…I’m pretty sure that again is a safer alternative to thousands of volts of electricty.

Its the UK dummy, we sit them down first and make them a nice cup of tea, then stun them. Its just one less scum bag that the tax payer has to worry about.
