Officials volunteer details of premier’s vacation
(CNS): The Cayman Islands premier is taking a ten day vacation in the UK and the USA, officials have confirmed. The premier’s office voluntarily sent out a short release Monday morning stating that Alden McLaughlin would be away from the Cayman Islands between the 21 and 31 July. McLaughlin has headed first to the UK, where he will attend the university graduation of his son, Daegan, on 23 July, and then he will take some vacation time in the United Kingdom followed by some time in Florida. With the premier taking some down time, Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell will be holding the reins until the premier is back at his desk on 1 August.

Your son will appreciate it Honourable Premier. You have earned your 2 weeks vacation, don't listen to the detractors. At lease they were forewarned and you also told us who will be in charge in your absence.
He has every right to attend his s on's graduation, who would choose not to?. The Premier has earned excellent ratings since he took office and we have evry reason to believe the country will prosper under his laedership. Just compare these comments with those directed at his predecessor.
laedership, I hope it does not turn out as you have spelled it.
Rest assured it won't turn out as mckeewa spells it.
Good on yuh Alden, enjoy.
Vacation already!? He hasn't even passed probation yet!
Vacation already, .Wish I could start a new job and have vacation after 60 days on the job. Here we go again.
He hasn't started a new job, just a new position. Would you like to lose your vacation allowance because you were promoted? At least we aren't paying for it like we did for the last 4 years. Who wouldn't want to go to their first childs graduation? It could be unpaid leave for all you know.
All positions are vacated at the desolving of the House. Yes, it is a new job, otherwise we should not be considering that he has only been on the job 60 days.
I don't believe that every personal detail of someone's vacation needs to be announced ( what happens if there is a change in plans?) What we do need to know is if the person in this office is off Island and who is deputizing. The Governors leave has historically been announced, so has the former Premiers.
Mrs. O'connor Connolly is the former Premier, Mr. McKeeva Bush was the first Premier of the Cayman Islands.
Just saying.
Many people do.
Moaning again!! Yes he is taking vacation – to go to his sons graduation.
Hey, at least we know what he's going over there for and reasons were given. I am not going to compare the Honourable Premier to anyone else I will just wait and see what transpires over the next 4 years and keep an open mind. Congrats on your son's achievement. Hope he continues to be successful.
You can, you absolute moron: when you interview for a job, you let the perspecitve employeer know that you have a scheduled vacation (for example, your son's graduation from uni) and 9 times out of 10 the new employer will be fine with this.
Idiot – and if he missed his son's graduation he would be criticized.
Won't last
Row, row, row your boat genty down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily Cayman is just a dream. Bye bye Mac.
Wow…information….from the premier?? Excellent, we all know who is in charge!! It does not take much for a government to make trhe public feel a little more comfortable.. Keep it up Guys..
I really like the approach of the new premier to these matters. What a breath of fresh air.
The two posters who don't like transparency are, no doubt, UDP supporters.
Thought they were extinct by now…UDP supporters, that is:)
They're like roaches. Nothing on earth you can do to get rid of the buggers.
Why would you be calling people buggers and likening them to roaches?
That's so rude.
Not a UDP or PPM supporter!
