This article is about a young woman getting into an accident, she has received serious injuries. I believe that we all hope, pray, wish (whatever it is that we do) that she will recover fully. Unfortunately one insensitive person instead of simply hoping, praying, wishing her a fully recovery, they also chose this forum to add their two cents regarding prayer, the Bible, Sunday School, Christianity etc and insult the people who believe in God and pray for this young woman which caused a firestorm of commentary to this person and has taken focus off the issue at hand…..the young woman is still suffering from serious injuries. What has happened is the person has received the undeserving attention they sought by making the insensitive comment. He/She has deliberately made themselves the center of attention.  Let us all respect each other's beliefs and deal with the issue at hand – the injured woman. When she recovers, those who believe that prayer is what healed her are entitled to that belief, those who believe she miraculously recovered with no intervention from anything/anyone else but her will to recover is also entitled to their belief. People usually bog themselves down with focusing on the trees and completely miss the forest, every time.

On the prayer, was it not God's will that the accident happened in the first place?  I find the pseudo-Christians who pray for an event or outcome so annoying as they fail to realise the omnipotence of God.  We pray solely for guidance to be better servants of God and nothing else.  To pray for some specific is no better than idolatry.

I'm not sure just exactly how CNS can even approve certain comments on their website… to allow the first comment people will see to be such negativity I'm kind of appalled… While you can say that "prayer" doesn't work, I'd love for you to say the same thing about positive thinking! If you'd put your brain to work, you could say that "prayer" is a result of positive thinking and hope for something better! Anyway, my "prayers" and definitely my thoughts are with this woman at this time. She IS a young mother and this could have been ANY of us. Accidents are exactly so, not meant to happen and unfortunate regardless of the cause. I urge you all to start acting with compassion, if not out of respect for one another then to reserve your own peace of mind! MB

I wish her a speedy recovery – the thing that ticks me off the most, is when so many hypocrites have the gaul to say "im praying for you" – PRAYER HAS NEVER AND WILL NEVER WORK ! we need to do something, yes dig our heads out of the clouds and use our two hands to actually do something – take that religious bullcrap elsewhere I am tired of hearing it !!!

12:37 – Your being tired of hearing any type of religious comment is your problem. The other person choosing to use a religious expression is exercising their right to their conviction. No one is asking you to change your position on religion in any way. I would suggest that at a minimum you could be respectful enough and let the rest of the world be as it chooses to believe. Indeed, your lack of tolerance shown here raises its own questions.  I note your choice to shum religous expression, I have no need to castigate you for that position. I will express my views as I am convicted. And yes, I am a Christian.

Good for you. Why don't you be tolerant of non-believers and keep your faith to yourself? Isn't it enough that you believe in it? Why does everyone else need to hear about the rituals you perform? If I commented that I had done a dance for this woman, wouldthat be considered a constructive and protected form of expression, just because I sincerely believe in it? Is your set of beliefs the only one allowed to manifest itself in public debate over tragedies, welcome wherever it wants to be?

That's the problem. Even the convicted are able to post on-line! What is going on at Northward?

This is a christian country and yes I was born and raised right in the midst of it, dragged to Sunday school every Sunday until I was old enough to think for myself and not be led into darkness by all of this delusional stuff written in a book that more than half of us believe is "perfect" – read it from front to back and then we can have a discussion if you want to challenge me on all that's written in that book – most of the people toting around that same book, has only read what they were told to read, I have read the entire book and I can tell you some of the stuff in there is frightening to say the least.  Caymanian born and bred – thank you!

One great thing about the Bible is that it tells the truth – the good, the bad and the ugly which in itself proves it it is genuine. If the Bible was something made up a long time ago by people with the sole purpose of projecting it to be perfect book do you not think that they would have left out all the gruesome details, all the sordid actions of some of the people described in it? Instead it states what occurred. Sadly, you lost your way somewhere as you believe that you were somehow "enlightened" and have dismissed the Bible as a fallacy. I too, being raised in this country went to church every Sunday and Sunday school but the difference between myself then and myself now is that I didn't have a personal relationship with God, I simply went through the motions of going to church but once you truly develop a personal relationship with God then and only then will you truly become enlightened. I encourage everyone to read the Bible for themselves, not just read the parts that sound like it it is in sync with the life they want to lead, or not only the parts that someone suggests that you read. Sadly, we have people who only pick and choose the scriptures they find appealing but the Bible is not a buffet where you can just pick and choose what you want out of it. Read all of it, know the Bible for yourself. At the end of the day, when all these people who you claim are being led into darkness turn out to be right in their belief who will have lost and suffered? People like you who refuse to believe and accept that Jesus died for your sins. I pray that you will find your way to God before it is too late. At least it is a blessing that you said you have read the Bible, a lot of people simply dismiss God based on the actions of some people they see in the church but seems that you have read the Bible with the intent on proving it as a fallacy, how about just reading it with an open mind?

I like the bits about stoning people to death for minor offences.

TO :Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 06/10/2013 – 12:37                           You really have some nerve ,criticizing people who "pray" for a speedy recovery ,while admitting that your approach is to 'wish' for a speedy recovery.Do you see the hyprocisy in that?

Prayer works my friend, you can't prove that it hasn't .  Just as you expect the right to express your view in this medium and want others to be tolerant of your view that prayer doesn't work, then you should be also be respectful and tolerant of their beliefs. You have judged the people  as a hypocrites, how and why did you come to that conclusion? Simply because they said they are praying makes them a hypocrite? Sounds like you have some other deep-rooted issues going on so I am PRAYING for you. You said "you WISH her a speedy recovery" so who do you believe in? An all powerful genie? Or will she just miraculously get well by her own will or maybe if enough people WISH her a speedy recovery she will get better? You explain situations where knowledageble doctors have given up hope and don't know what else to do and the person recovers even to the doctor's amazement, what caused that to happen? Situations where doctors have given them months to live and they live years later. You don't know? Well you better ask somebody!

And You can’t Prove that Prayer Works either, my friend. Either way, the hope from me is that this young woman’s recovery is fast and healthy.

I assume that you are the designated spokesperson for the family? I only assumed this because you were so forceful in telling everyone else to not pray for this young woman. So if this young woman's family believe in God and welcome prayers, who are you to tell people to stop praying  "take that religious bullcrap elsewhere I am tired of hearing it". Didn't realise the world revolved around you, your beliefs and your desires. You are entitledto your opinion as so are the people who choose to pray for her. And even if the family doesn't believe in God, it doesn't stop someone else who does from praying for her, sometimes we that believe have to be intercessors for those who have no faith and don't believe. I pray for people like you all the time, people who don't know God or believe in His power.

To all the parents on this Island I believe we can do something to help prevent many of "these  accidents" from happening. The question we must ask is, what is the root cause of many of what we assume are accidents, and whether or not these are  due to "consumption of alcohol" or "some other reason". Far too many of our young men and women "especially our young women"  who have {here of late} been involved in accidents such as these. I do believe that many of the young ladies are emotionally upset because of broken relationships and/or some other emotional problem. Let me say something here that many may disagree with or write it off as so much rubbish. I want to say to all the parents and guardians of these children, please spend time with them and talk to them {without being invasive} and show an interest in their personal lives. Talk to them about romantic relationships they may or may not have, but let them know that you're doing it because you care. Let them know that you as a young person had many hurtful experiences when it comes to personal relationships. Let them know that your only concern is that of helping them figure out and solving what seems "to them" this insurmountable problem.

Think about oneself when one was about the same age. Think about some of the things that may have caused you to have all kinds of heart break and negative thoughts. Especially during those times when you felt so alone because of the sudden discovery that, "THAT PERSON"  with whom you were so in love, and knew that  one day  you would marry  and live happily ever after.  It happens to all of us. So be pro active and take the time to talk to your kids and let them know that you too  was hurt  many, many times emotionally because of  things such as the break up of a friendship or because of something like having a few zits or some other teenage malady.

Let them know that in a short time they will have forgotten about the incident and moved on. Let them know that even adults go through these social & emotional upheavals. Let them know that we all at some time in our existence, will encounter many up and downs, and that these things are a part of growing up. Relate to them some of YOUR personal stories of disappointment. Laugh about it! Let them know that in short order they too will be laughing about whatever is bothering them now and that they will see how insignificant it really was.

Moms & Dads! Make it a point to talk with your children every day, ask if there is something they may want to talk to you about. Let them know that there is nothing that they will tell you  that you yourself may not have experienced. Talk to them as a friend and let them know you are there for them. Let them know that we all sometimes do things in the fit of anger or in the throws of passion that we will later regret, and that we all make mistakes. Hug them and tell them YOU LOVE THEM.

There is a hidden message in this comment and I hope parents and others will see it.  words Not all accidents are ACCIDENTS!

    LOVE YOUR CHILDREN!
