Governor invites nominees for royal gongs
(CNS): Helen Kilpatrick has issued her first invitation for nominations for queen’s honours in her role as governor of the Cayman Islands. The public is being urged to submit nominations for the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2014. OBEs and MBEs are considered in the United Kingdom while the Certificate and Badge of Honour are considered locally. Long service is not enough for any award and nominations must be supported by a persuasive account of the outstanding or innovative or self-sacrificing services and achievements of the nominee, whether paid or unpaid, in one field or several, and what has raised them above those of others performing similar services.
Nominators are asked to make every effort to fully complete all the relevant sections. Once completed, the forms should be submitted, under confidential cover, to the Governor’s Office. While all recommendations will be acknowledged, the Governor’s Office cannot enter into correspondence about the action taken on them.
Nominations must be received by Thursday 14 November 2013

Just hope that Mr Bryce Merren from Hurleys could be one of these lucky people. Just after the Ivan Bryce was feeding all those people who was working from the Fire Station. Namely the Hurricane Committee, Public works Guys, Firemen and other folks from the Community who was being housed there. He told them that they could get whatever they needed from the Supermarket but that they should be careful going around the freezers as they could get electrocuted with all the water that they were sitting in. There were no charges for the food and the Fire Station had three vulanteer cooks who kept the kitchen going.
Just wondering – is a 'vulanteer' a version of a 'buccaneer'?…

It is refreshing to learn that as a result of an foi in the UK 300 people have refused such a ridiculous award. They are the true winners!

Generally in UK you have to do what you say you will, otherwise you get found out. So take your myopic small island mentality and get a life. Just because everyone sees shadows everywhere here, does not mean it is the same everywhere else.
Re 20.53 … Agree that those who truly give should not seek reward, but those two expats who got big awards after Ivan did not give theirs back. It's not too late to do so.
