(CNS): Police have reported that there was an attempted robbery on Thursday night when a man was threatened on his doorstep at his home in Prospect, George Town. Officers went to the scene at Mangrove Avenue at about 9:21 last night. An RCIPS spokesperson said the victim was about to enter his residence when he was approached by three masked men, one of whom was armed with what appeared to be a hand gun. No one was physically injured and no shots were fired but police did not say what the robbers had demanded or if they left empty handed or howthey came and went from the scene.

The East/West Artirial Roadway is the perfect escape route……thank you CIG.
We are home safe and sound even before a squad patrol car can be contacted…………we know your record on response time…….wa'u tink we stupid?
Now we look'n Wes ta dat new dART rOad……lotto money and big boats dare.
I live in Prospect and a policeman's apt was robbed in my complex while he was at home sleeping. Now that is something that makes you say WTF?
We have more police officers, they have every equipment under the sun at tax payers expense, more politicians, more businesses, state of the art CCTV, Doppler system, big money tycoon buying up all the land and roads, etc….yet we are worst off than say 15 years ago.
This country is going to end up like Jamaica. I predict another 7 – 10 years and we are done. Remember cayman, there's no hills to run and lock yourself from. This terror seems to be approaching everyone's front door.
There are only TWO points of entry into Prospect Park (Well, three if you look at going all the way ito well-heeled East Patricks's Island and wiggle back South to Omega Dr.)
But let's assume the common entrance is soley Prospect Drive and Marina Drive. CCTV Cameras can be placed at McRuss and another CCTV on the corner of Victory looking down the one single left-hand truning lane……follow me? This is TOO SIMPLE!!
Phase 2 of the CCTV program is supposed to be private cameras joinng up with the public cameras. This was part of the "Private / Public" sales pitch we all swallowed. So where is phase 2 Mr Bostock?
One nightly patrol car parked at the top of Marina/Prospect Drive and this becomes a choke point =Simple.
If a resident can figure this out over Sunday morning coffee what are the 600 RCIPS PAID employees planning? What about the Civil Service, MLAs, and CCTV team?
This should be an easy fix. 2 streets toclean up, not 200!
And what do you think the CCTV will show? In this instance, it was dark. The offender was probably wearing dark clothing. There is no mention of a car. Prospect has many entrance / exits on foot or on a bicycle (and this is assuming the offender left the vicinity and doesn't live in the area?). I'm sorry to dampen your enthusiasm for the capabilities of CCTV, but it is a camera on a pole at the end of the day- not a mobile film crew. It is not (and never has been) the cure for criminality. I think it is time that Cayman realises that CCTV is a tool that the police can utilise and not the answer to our prayers. Just my tuppence worth!
600 cops on the payroll and we can't have a regular patrol of this crime hot spot? Huh???
There are 400 RCIPS employees in total including admin staff. Don't exaggerate, it only blunts your point.
Time for all good men and women of Prospect to come together and run the scumbags out of town period.
The residents of Prospect Park need to voice their dismay. With 600 police officers, we can't have 1 full time best cop driving up and down Marina & Prospect to sniff out these thugs? Come on??
Also, start to name and shame these Slumlords who KnOW they are renting to drug dealers Mr W? Prospect Drive….
We want a better neighborhood, but must all work together.
Prospect is the new West Bay
Only because west bay is the new Beirut.
A bit harsh of Beirut.
I remember when Ed Bush used to read the news on Radio Cayman about gunfire in West Beirut and it sounded like West Bay Road and was a big joke.
No, no. I am reliably informed that RCIPS has no responsibility other than issuing parking tickets, when the mood takes them.
Too many idlers smoking and dealing pot in Prospect. More police presence is necessary in the entire area, residents are sick of the behaviour of these miscreants.
I disagree that there can be too many people dealing pot. It keeps the prices down.
Turn them in. Police need to do their job right.
Why would I support the phoney and fake "war on drugs"?
My Christmas joint ain't got any meat in it.
